Chapter 56: When Drowsiness Comes, Someone Sends a Pillow
By the time Jiang Wan realized and tried to enter the space, Song Jiuyuan had already fallen before her.
Being the first to fall off a cliff while fleeing because of her own carelessness—she might just be the first in history.
Feeling a bit gloomy for a few seconds, Jiang Wan decisively chose to enter the space. Her own little life was the top priority.
Once inside the space, Jiang Wan immediately felt a headache. No matter how she entered, once she exited, she’d still be falling in midair!
Fortunately, she could observe the outside through the space. It seemed the cliff wasn’t too high, and below was… water?
Thank goodness she could swim. Jiang Wan exited the space and used her powers to stabilize her body so she wouldn’t lose balance.
Splash—
She landed in the water. Reacting quickly, Jiang Wan’s head popped out of the surface, her eyes scanning around for Song Jiuyuan.
“Song Jiuyuan!”
He’s the main villain, right? He shouldn’t die so easily?
Jiang Wan swam through the water like a nimble fish, feeling a tiny bit guilty. If it hadn’t been for her…
“Jiang Wan.”
A weak voice came from nearby. Jiang Wan quickly swam toward the sound.
Sure enough, it was Song Jiuyuan. But his lower body seemed unable to exert any strength. Right now, he was barely paddling with his hands.
He looked quite disheveled, his face pale and terrifying, likely from swallowing a few mouthfuls of water. Jiang Wan didn’t have time to think—she grabbed him and began pulling him toward the shore.
“Jiang…”
Song Jiuyuan was clearly exhausted. His body started sinking into the water. Jiang Wan grew anxious.
“Song Jiuyuan, wake up!”
She shouted while desperately dragging him toward the bank. Fortunately, the shore wasn’t far.
But Song Jiuyuan had already painfully closed his eyes. Glancing at him, Jiang Wan steeled herself and cupped his face.
“Forget it—saving a life is more meritorious than building a seven-story pagoda!”
Without hesitation, Jiang Wan pressed her lips to his. She didn’t have time to feel anything about her so-called first kiss—she focused on transferring air into his lungs.
Only when she noticed Song Jiuyuan starting to open his eyes did Jiang Wan break the surface again and use her powers to quickly drag him ashore.
“Song Jiuyuan, you’re so heavy!”
Jiang Wan collapsed at the riverbank, panting hard. She pulled out a bottle of spiritual spring water from the space and gulped it down.
Only then did she feel some of her strength return. Beside her, Song Jiuyuan still lay motionless.
“No way… do I have to do it again?”
Jiang Wan was about to cry. In her past life, she’d never even dated—hadn’t even held a man’s hand.
But she couldn’t just watch Song Jiuyuan die. Putting on a death-defying expression, she started performing CPR and mouth-to-mouth resuscitation again.
Pinching his nose and lips, Jiang Wan closed her eyes to breathe into him. Suddenly, something felt off.
She snapped her eyes open—only to be met with Song Jiuyuan’s faint gaze. Startled, she instantly let go and fell back on her butt.
She stammered nervously, “I-I was just trying to save you, don’t get the wrong idea!”
“Thank you.”
Song Jiuyuan coughed out a mouthful of water still trapped in his lungs, but what he was really thinking had nothing to do with thanks.
Jiang Wan had looked so upset, and she even kissed him. She must’ve thought he was dead, and out of grief, did something so bold…
Remembering that soft kiss, Song Jiuyuan felt his heart skip a beat. In his mind, it was like a brilliant firework had exploded.
“Since you’re awake, you should be fine.”
Jiang Wan awkwardly turned her face away. Flustered, she said, “I’ll go check ahead. Don’t wander off.”
She practically fled. Her body was soaked and uncomfortable. Plus, she worried that the assassins targeting Song Jiuyuan might still be on their way.
She ran quickly, looking for a resting place. After rounding a rock wall, she saw a valley not far ahead.
A familiar herbal scent wafted from the valley. She pushed through a clump of tall grass—and discovered an enormous field of wild medicinal herbs!
“Oh my god, little spirit, am I dreaming?!”
Jiang Wan pinched her thigh hard. It hurt—so not a dream. Earlier she’d worried the supplies in her pharmacy scroll weren’t enough.
Now look—when she’s sleepy, someone sends a pillow!
“Wow, Master! So many herbs!!!”
The little spirit bounced excitedly in Jiang Wan’s head, making her heart pound nervously.
“Calm down. Tell me—can I collect this herb field?”
Jiang Wan’s heart raced as she squatted down and casually picked a lingzhi mushroom. Holy crap—it was huge.
A high-grade, aged lingzhi. She even spotted ginseng not far away. And besides that, there were atractylodes, astragalus, licorice…
“Yes, Master!”
The little spirit chirped cheerfully. Jiang Wan smiled, her lips curving up in joy.
“Start collecting! But remember to leave a bit of each type—we can’t wipe it all out. We should leave hope for future generations.”
With Jiang Wan’s command, the little spirit instantly swept the field into the space.
Jiang Wan entered the space briefly and glanced around, eyes curved in delight. How wonderful!
She walked a bit further and spotted a cave ahead—perfect for bringing Song Jiuyuan there to rest.
Jiang Wan quickly turned back. When she returned to the riverbank, she found Song Jiuyuan sitting there in a daze, eyes dim.
“Song Jiuyuan, I found a cave up ahead. Let’s rest there.”
“Okay.”
Song Jiuyuan glanced at his limp legs, and a wave of helplessness washed over him.
“I’ll carry you.”
Jiang Wan, in a great mood from harvesting such a massive herb field, bent down and squatted in front of him.
Song Jiuyuan pursed his lips, then suddenly said, “Why don’t… you go find Jiu Chi and the others first? Let them come save me.”
“If I leave, what if those assassins come after you again?”
Jiang Wan rolled her eyes at him. Instead of arguing, she simply stood up and scooped him into her arms.
Song Jiuyuan: !!!
“Just carry me on your back.”
Being carried bridal-style again, Song Jiuyuan’s fair face turned crimson with embarrassment.
But Jiang Wan didn’t want to bother. “We’re almost there. Let’s not switch.”
Song Jiuyuan: …
He really brought this upon himself.
Jiang Wan walked quickly, gradually distracting Song Jiuyuan from his thoughts. Just as he was about to ask her something, Jiang Wan carried him straight into the valley.
The fragrant scent lingered in the air. Song Jiuyuan turned his head and spotted a field of herbs.
But this was after Jiang Wan had already harvested most of it, so what remained were sparse patches of medicinal plants.
“So many herbs.”
Song Jiuyuan muttered. Jiang Wan looked a bit guilty and hurriedly said, “I just saw them earlier.
You go rest in the cave first. Before we leave, I’ll collect some usable herbs.”
“Alright.”
Knowing he was a burden, Song Jiuyuan didn’t protest. He quietly let Jiang Wan place him on a rock inside the cave.
She went back out to gather some firewood and lit a fire. They hadn’t brought any luggage, so there were no spare clothes. They could only sit by the fire to dry off.
It was only then that Song Jiuyuan noticed Jiang Wan’s wet clothes clinging to her body, revealing her faint curves. He quickly looked away, not daring to peek.
