Chapter 1: Transmigrated as a Farmer’s Daughter
Gu Leyou woke up to bright daylight. The sunlight piercing her eyes made her raise her hand to block it.
“Where am I?” she muttered, sitting up through the soreness all over her body and rubbing her temples.
Wasn’t she collecting herbs in Shennongjia when she fell? She didn’t die? Was she rescued? By whom? Where was she taken?
A flood of questions overwhelmed her, leaving her already fuzzy mind even more confused.
Just then, she heard gossip drifting in from outside:
“Have you heard about that Gu Leyou? She was already engaged and still went around flirting with random men. She’s really brought shame to the Gu family!”
Gu Leyou was stunned. Engaged? Flirting with men? What is all this?
A thought flashed through her mind. She looked around the room again. The furniture, the house’s structure—none of it looked modern…
Could it be… I’ve transmigrated?!
As if unlocking a key, all the jumbled thoughts in her head began to make sense—it was the original host’s memories.
The original owner of this body had the same name—Gu Leyou. She was from Gujia Village in Youzhou City of the Yan Kingdom. She had been engaged to a man from the same village named Zeng Sibai. Yesterday, she received a note from Zeng Sibai asking her to meet him by the river. She went today, but he never showed up. Instead, she suddenly felt dizzy and lost consciousness. Everything after that was a blank.
“You’re awake?” a voice interrupted her thoughts. A plainly dressed but handsome man stepped into the room.
He had sword-like eyebrows, bright eyes, and sharp features. He was tall and strong, with a bow and arrows on his back—clearly a hunter. But to Gu Leyou, there was something more dangerous about him—his presence gave off a cold, lethal aura. He looked like someone who could kill a tiger with a flick of his finger.
“And you are?” she asked, guessing that this must be the “wild man” those gossipers outside were referring to. But with that face… so what if she flirted a little?
“My name is Lu Yan. I saw you faint by the river and brought you back,” he replied concisely.
“And those people outside?” she pointed to the door, where whispers and gossip were still leaking in.
“Nosy busybodies,” Lu Yan said indifferently. “The innocent have nothing to fear. You don’t need to mind them.”
Though Lu Yan didn’t know Gu Leyou well, those people outside had already spread rumors about the two of them. Needless to say, nothing had happened between them.
“Oh, right.” Lu Yan added, “Your younger brother is outside too. He came to take you home.”
Gu Leyou didn’t expect him to be so quick to show her the door. She hesitated a moment, then gave a small bow. “Thank you for saving me. If I get the chance, I’ll repay your kindness.”
She turned to leave. Behind her, Lu Yan replied coldly without even looking back: “No need.”
As soon as she stepped outside, Gu Leyou regretted it. Just her luck—she happened to be on her period today, and there were visible bloodstains on her clothes.
But she was already out. It would be even more awkward to go back and ask to borrow something to wear.
“Big sis!” Just then, a thin, delicate-looking young man pushed his way through the crowd and called out softly, “You’re okay! I came to take you home.”
Gu Leyou recognized him. This was her younger brother, Gu Leshu—timid and mild-mannered, always afraid of causing trouble.
She looked him over. He was dressed lightly and had nothing she could use to cover up. With no better option, she braced herself and said, “Let’s go home.”
She grabbed his arm and quickly walked away, fleeing the curious stares. But even so, the stains on her clothes didn’t escape the onlookers’ notice.
“Look! There’s blood on her clothes.”
“Yeah, how disgraceful.”
“She’s completely ruined the Gu family’s name.”
…
“Sis, did you really… with Brother Lu…” Gu Leshu had heard the gossip too and asked cautiously.
“No,” Gu Leyou cut him off cleanly before he could finish.
“Oh.” Gu Leshu lowered his head and didn’t ask again.
When they returned home, their parents didn’t say much. They just looked worried and told her to get some rest, then sat together sighing in frustration.
Gu Leyou wanted to explain, but seeing how heavy the mood was, she figured it wouldn’t help. Better to rest and plan how to live from now on.
That night during her bath, she noticed a red rash forming on her arm—looked like an allergic reaction. It didn’t seem serious, so she ignored it and went to sleep.
The next morning, just as she got up, she heard an angry voice outside the courtyard:
“I didn’t expect her to be such an unchaste woman! I want to break off the engagement!”
Gu Leyou opened the door and saw her parents anxiously surrounding an angry young man. They were trying to calm him down, but he paid no heed—he was shouting so loud, it was like he wanted the whole neighborhood to hear he was there to break off the engagement.
“Mother, Father, you can go rest. I’ll handle this myself.” Gu Leyou had a straightforward nature—if she made a mess, she’d take responsibility. The scandal was about her, and her parents shouldn’t have to take the blame.
“You still have the face to come out here?!” Zeng Sibai screamed when he saw her. “You shameless woman! Flirting with random men—you’re filthy! I wouldn’t marry someone like you if you were the last woman alive!”
Gu Leyou had considered explaining things to her fiancé last night. But now that she saw his true colors, she was relieved—let him cancel it. She didn’t want to marry trash like him anyway.
“If you’re going to accuse me of something, show proof. Where’s your evidence that I flirted with other men?” she stepped forward, her tone sharp and confident.
Zeng Sibai blinked, clearly shocked. Wasn’t Gu Leyou supposed to be a weak, easy-to-bully girl? Why did she seem like a completely different person today?
“I fainted by the river and was rescued. You don’t thank the man who saved me, and instead you accuse me of indecency? You like to pretend you’re some noble gentleman—but tell me, is this how a real man behaves?” she demanded.
According to the original Gu Leyou’s memories, Zeng Sibai was a scholar—mild-mannered and good-looking. He was popular with the village girls, and many had envied Gu Leyou for being engaged to him.
Now it seemed he was just a fake gentleman—what a hypocrite. All those girls who admired him clearly didn’t know him at all.
“You want to call off the engagement? Fine. But let it be known—it’s me, Gu Leyou, who’s calling it off,” she declared firmly. “I’m innocent and pure—I won’t marry a fake gentleman like you!”
