Chapter 1: Wrong Turn to 1974
Xu Jiaojiao hadn’t opened her eyes yet, but she could feel that the surface beneath her was wrong.
It was uneven and hard, like several pieces of wood put together.
A musty smell permeated the air.
Realizing this, Xu Jiaojiao froze.
Was this the beginning of her life in a cold palace?
Thinking this, she shivered involuntarily and opened her eyes wide.
But the scene that met her eyes almost made her jaw drop.
This was definitely a cold palace!
In the dim light, she could vaguely make out that this was a very shabby tile house.
The roof was covered with densely packed tiles, looking pitch black and she didn’t know how long it had been built.
The walls were made of mud bricks.
Apart from that, the room was full of clutter, looking messy at a glance.
Old stools, old wardrobes, and miscellaneous items on the floor that she couldn’t tell what they were.
The only thing that was relatively clean was a table by the wall.
On it was…
A porcelain mug?
A hot, er, water bottle?!
Before she could process the information in her head, Xu Jiaojiao heard a “creak” behind her.
With the sound, the bedboard vibrated slightly.
?!
Xu Jiaojiao only then felt the heat source behind her, not far from her.
For a moment, she was completely dumbfounded.
What was going on?
Before she could figure it out, she heard another “creak,” and the bedboard vibrated again behind her.
Xu Jiaojiao froze and turned her head mechanically—
What met her eyes was a rugged but handsome face.
Seeing this man, Xu Jiaojiao felt like she had been struck by lightning.
Don’t tell her, this is her mission target?
Even though she had never been to ancient times, she knew that ancient people valued their bodies as gifts from their parents and dared not harm them.
But this distinct crew cut, where was the emperor’s image?
Swallowing hard, Xu Jiaojiao looked at the man in front of her again.
He had strong and sharp features, with two sharp sword-like eyebrows.
There was a scar at the end of his right eyebrow, not hideous, but adding a touch of masculinity.
The man’s brow was furrowed, and under his tightly closed eyelids, his eyeballs kept twitching.
He looked like he was having a nightmare.
“Concubine… Concubine, what’s going on?”
Coming back to her senses, Xu Jiaojiao started calling out in her mind.
Feifei was her companion system.
A thing called the Favored Concubine System, just from the name you could tell what it was used for.
It had been bound to her five years ago.
But because it was bound too early, it didn’t catch the time window for traveling through time.
It had to stay in the original world for five years.
During this time, Xu Jiaojiao had tried all sorts of ways, but she couldn’t get rid of this thing at all.
She couldn’t get rid of it, so she could only grit her teeth and follow the system’s advice, learning everything from music and chess to calligraphy and painting.
Just when Xu Jiaojiao had finally mastered those skills, the time window opened and she was taken through time by the system.
So, what had she crossed into?
Which palace’s room could be so broken?
“Jiaojiao, I’m sorry, there was an accident, we went to the wrong place…”
The system’s voice was soft and milky, and it spoke weakly.
Xu Jiaojiao: ?!
“What do you mean by the wrong place?”
“It’s… that… we… we went to… China in 1974…”
The system’s voice became weaker and weaker, but Xu Jiaojiao still caught the key words!
1974?!!
(???′Д`?)? 彡┻━┻
You’re a Favored Concubine System, why did you go to 1974 of all places, is this appropriate?
“Yes, yes, I’m sorry… this is my first time taking someone through time, I’m not familiar…”
This is disgusting!
Is this something you can just brush off by saying you’re not familiar?
This is a major accident!
The system probably knew it had made a big mistake and kept apologizing to her.
But Xu Jiaojiao didn’t want an apology.
“Send me back to my original world.”
She was just tired and didn’t want to talk.
She had never even been in a relationship in her entire life, and she was bound by this inexplicable thing.
Although her voice was cute, it couldn’t hide the fact that she was a violent system.
If it weren’t for that, how could Xu Jiaojiao have let her do whatever she wanted?
“Jiao, Jiaojiao, the time window won’t open for another ten years.”
The system’s voice was still barely audible.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
What’s the use of you?
You’re so bad, does your main brain know?
“He knows…”
Xu Jiaojiao: …
Inhale, exhale…
The world is so beautiful, we won’t argue with a retarded system.
Finally calming herself down, Xu Jiaojiao spoke again.
“Since it was a mistake, the mission shouldn’t be done, right?”
After all, there was no emperor, where would she go to be a favored concubine?
“Last night, Jiaojiao chose to start the mission, once the mission is started, it can’t be stopped.”
Hearing this, Xu Jiaojiao felt a little hopeless.
She knew, this stubborn thing, wasn’t that easy to talk to.
But she still spoke to it nicely, trying to reason with it.
Who knew that all her efforts were met with a sentence.
“Mission target has been bound, it cannot be changed!”
Xu Jiaojiao: …
There’s a swear word on the tip of my tongue, I don’t know if I should say it or not?
“Do you mean that the mission to conquer the emperor has been changed to conquer this man?”
Her voice was gritted, as if she wanted to chew that thing up alive.
“Ding! The system page shows this is correct!”
(???′Д`?)? 彡┻━┻
Aren’t you a Favored Concubine System?
Your mission target can be changed at will, and you’re changing it to someone who obviously can’t be an emperor, is that reasonable?
Who doesn’t know that China is a country where the people are in charge?
But a pitfall is a pitfall.
The system had a face that said, “The goods have been shipped, no returns.”
Xu Jiaojiao even had the illusion that maybe the system wanted to send her here in the first place.
It was just deceiving her.
Taking another deep breath, Xu Jiaojiao calmly said, “Since it was your fault, there should be some compensation, right?”
Don’t say anything else, the space golden finger that is essential for traveling through time, shouldn’t you give me one?
“Then Feifei will apply for you to try.”
Xu Jiaojiao just thought she would try, she didn’t expect it to agree so easily.
She was almost caught off guard.
For a moment, she felt like she had lost something when the boss agreed too quickly during a price negotiation.
But thinking about how bad the system was, and that she might not even get this space, Xu Jiaojiao calmed down.
She didn’t know how long it had been, but the system hadn’t responded.
Bored, Xu Jiaojiao looked at the man beside her again.
But before she could take a closer look, she suddenly felt a sharp pain in her head.
It felt like a computer had just finished booting up, a huge amount of memories that didn’t belong to her were suddenly stuffed into her mind.
Xu Jiaojiao gasped in pain!
She didn’t know how long it had been, but the pain finally subsided a little.
Just as she was about to sort out the information in her head.
She saw the man in front of her open his eyes with a flash!
Their eyes met, one full of bewilderment, the other full of killing intent!
