Chapter 30: Is It Against Policy?
Liu Dawu responded and quickly walked to the front.
He took out a Z-shaped iron rod and put it into a hole.
With a forceful swing, he lifted the iron rod.
After a while, the tractor started making a “da da da” sound.
The people on the car all grabbed the railing, their faces full of fear.
Seeing them like this, Xu Jiaojiao was also nervous.
She reached out her left hand, mimicking them, to grab the railing behind her.
However, instead of grabbing the railing, she grabbed a warm, large hand.
Xu Jiaojiao was startled and looked closely. It was no one else but Qin Shuo’s hand.
She was about to ask him to move, but a low voice reached her ears.
“Sit still!”
As soon as the man finished speaking, Xu Jiaojiao felt a force throw her back.
Unprepared, her face changed, and she was thrown onto the man.
“Bang,” a sound of her head hitting a fleshy wall.
Xu Jiaojiao was dizzy.
When she came to her senses, she found an iron arm across her waist.
But it didn’t directly touch her.
Her left hand, she didn’t know when, was guided to the railing of the tractor.
“Hold onto this.”
Xu Jiaojiao realized that she had grabbed the wrong place.
Her face turned red, and she awkwardly said to him, “Thank, thank you. I’m sitting still now.”
The woman’s voice was drowned out by the sound of the tractor. If he hadn’t been sitting close, he wouldn’t have heard it.
Qin Shuo lowered his eyes and saw her white ears, tinged with a faint pink.
They were like jade.
The scent of the woman filled his nostrils.
The fragrant hair, carried by the wind, kept brushing against his arm.
Qin Shuo’s fingers curled slightly, his gaze falling on the playful strand of hair.
But after a while, the woman who had been next to him moved to the other side.
As if afraid of touching him, there was a gap between them.
Qin Shuo frowned and also looked away.
Xu Jiaojiao, who had finally stabilized herself, couldn’t help but breathe a sigh of relief.
She noticed the female intellectual youth next to her, looking calm and collected.
She couldn’t help but compliment her, “How did you do it? You’re amazing!”
Chen Qiaolian saw her pale face and couldn’t help but laugh.
“Today’s ride is considered stable. When we rode before, we were thrown right up in the air.”
Xu Jiaojiao: …
That’s terrifying!
The original owner had never taken a tractor to the county.
She didn’t have the money when she was at her parents’ house, and after she got married, the little money she had was used to please Li Wenxiu and the others.
Chen Qiaolian didn’t like Xu Jiaojiao before.
In fact, she didn’t like anyone who was close to those two.
Birds of a feather flock together.
Now that Xu Jiaojiao wasn’t close to those two anymore, Chen Qiaolian actually had something to talk to her about.
Along the way, the two women chatted incessantly, like they had been long-lost friends.
“Jiaojiao, what are you going to buy later?” Chen Qiaolian asked curiously.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
She looked back at Qin Shuo and found that he wasn’t looking at her.
Xu Jiaojiao leaned close to Chen Qiaolian’s ear and whispered.
“That thing, I know where to buy good ones. I’ll take you there later.”
Chen Qiaolian said excitedly, but then she thought of something and looked at the man behind Xu Jiaojiao.
“Your husband?”
“We’re not going the same way. I’ll go with you.” Xu Jiaojiao waved her hand and continued to chat with her.
But Chen Qiaolian suddenly felt a chill.
Thinking it was the wind, she pulled her coat tighter.
The two of them chatted and laughed all the way.
Finally, they arrived at the county, and the female intellectuals jumped off the car like birds released from a cage.
Xu Jiaojiao also jumped off.
But as soon as her feet touched the ground, she felt an ant-like biting sensation, and she stumbled.
The next second, a strong hand grabbed her arm.
Xu Jiaojiao stabilized herself.
“Thank you.” Xu Jiaojiao said to Qin Shuo.
But as soon as she finished speaking, she saw the female intellectuals all looking at her with strange expressions.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
Okay, her manner was indeed too polite, not at all like a couple.
Thinking of the rumors spread about her by the intellectuals before,
Xu Jiaojiao flashed a sweet smile and said softly to Qin Shuo again, “Where are you going? I want to go shopping with Qiaolian later.”
She was acting like a good wife.
How could Qin Shuo not see the fake smile on her face?
But he didn’t expose her, instead, he turned his gaze to the sack in her hand.
As if asking, she was just going to walk around with a sack?
Xu Jiaojiao followed his gaze down and couldn’t help but chuckle.
She almost forgot, she had to go to the pharmacy first.
After a moment, she turned around and apologized to Chen Qiaolian, “Qiaolian, sorry, I have to go to the pharmacy first. I’ll find you at the department store later.”
Hearing this, Chen Qiaolian nodded and didn’t ask any further questions. She followed the other female intellectuals.
Xu Jiaojiao was about to turn around and leave, but Qin Shuo took the sack from her hand.
Xu Jiaojiao: …
Looking at the man striding ahead, she hesitated for a moment before following him.
Fortunately, the street was simple, and there were no private shops, so the state-run pharmacy was easy to find.
She had never sold anything in this era, so Xu Jiaojiao was unsure.
When they were a few meters away from the pharmacy, she tapped Qin Shuo’s back.
Qin Shuo stopped and turned to look at her, “What?”
Xu Jiaojiao: …
Looking at his upright and righteous face, she felt a little scared.
But she still spoke, “Is it allowed to sell herbs to the pharmacy?”
Her voice was low, as if afraid of being overheard.
Seeing her innocent and law-abiding look,
The gloom in Qin Shuo’s heart dissipated.
His originally sharp eyes softened involuntarily.
“It’s allowed to sell to the state-run pharmacy, but the price is a bit low.”
Hearing this, Xu Jiaojiao breathed a sigh of relief.
As long as it was allowed, she was afraid that it wouldn’t be in line with policy and she would be caught.
In time travel novels, the female protagonists often go to the black market to buy and sell things.
Getting rich is an essential plot point.
But Xu Jiaojiao was timid and cowardly. She felt that she wasn’t cut out for that.
She would just stay honest for ten years and learn some medical skills.
If she were to travel to ancient times, she would have another way to survive.
The two of them entered the pharmacy together. Qin Shuo said to wait for him and then disappeared.
The pharmacy was crowded with people.
Xu Jiaojiao thought that there were only a few stores on the entire street, so it would be strange if there weren’t many people.
Bored, she joined the queue.
She planned to ask someone later.
Finally, it was her turn. Xu Jiaojiao explained her intentions.
However, the person dispensing the medicine didn’t even lift their eyelids and waved their hand, saying, “We don’t accept it.”
Xu Jiaojiao: …
“The processed Eucommia ulmoides, Poria cocos, and Anoectochilus rotundus, are you sure you don’t want to see them?”
Fang Xinqiu impatiently said:
“I said no, no. What’s all this nonsense? Are you buying medicine or not? If not, get out of the way.”
Although she was prepared to be turned away, Xu Jiaojiao was still angered by this person.
She was about to say something, but she heard a stern voice behind her.
“Xiao Fang, is that how you treat the people?”
Xu Jiaojiao looked in the direction of the voice and saw an elderly man with white hair.
The person standing next to him was Qin Shuo.
