Chapter 51: My Wife is Hardworking
Hearing her voice, Qin Shuo raised his head, but only saw her slightly red nose.
Her eyes were hidden under her hat.
Without looking, he knew they must be swollen and red.
But there was no time to say anything else. He said, “Let’s check the other wounds first.”
Hearing this, Xu Jiaojiao didn’t hesitate. She quickly and efficiently checked the other wounds.
Fortunately, the other wounds weren’t bleeding much. After applying the powder, the blood stopped flowing almost immediately.
Qin Shuo’s eyes widened in surprise as he looked at the medicine in her hand.
The woman, however, seemed oblivious, as if making this kind of medicine was commonplace for her.
The people watching from the side were stunned.
“This Qin Laosan’s wife, how come she knows this?” A woman exclaimed.
“I heard she goes up the mountain to gather herbs every day. I wanted to ask her what she used them for, but I didn’t expect her to be able to make this!”
Everyone, one after another, started discussing.
But Xu Jiaojiao seemed not to hear them. She focused on treating the blind man’s wounds.
When she finished, she saw that the clothes Qin Shuo was pressing on the wound had been soaked through.
She quickly handed him a piece of cloth.
Qin Shuo took it and placed it on top of the previous cloth, continuing to apply pressure.
The couple worked together, and after a while, the bleeding finally stopped.
Xu Jiaojiao took out a homemade bandage and bandaged his wound.
“Qin Laosan, your wife is really capable!” A woman praised.
Hearing this, Qin Shuo lowered his eyes and looked at Xu Jiaojiao who was bandaging his wound.
Then, he nodded and replied, “My wife, she works very hard.”
As soon as he said “wife,” Xu Jiaojiao’s movements froze.
Even through the hat, she could feel the man’s burning gaze.
She could hear the women’s praises, but Xu Jiaojiao couldn’t hear anything.
Her heart was pounding, so fast it was frightening.
But in an instant, she suppressed this feeling.
Biting her lip, she lowered her eyes and quickly bandaged the wound.
Liu Guoqing, who was standing nearby, quickly pointed to two people and asked them to take him to the hospital.
“My son! My son is still inside!”
The blind man refused to leave, struggling to go towards the collapsed house.
Everyone fell silent again.
Zhang Yuanchao was most likely dead.
But no one dared to say it. They sped up their rescue efforts.
“Liu Xiaoyu is here!”
Under the fallen beam, a face covered in mud emerged.
She had her eyes closed, unconscious.
Xu Jiaojiao reached out and touched her.
“She has a pulse.”
Hearing this, everyone quickly rescued her and carried her to the side.
Xu Jiaojiao examined her body and found no wounds.
She must have been knocked unconscious.
Liu Xiaoyu was the daughter of a landlord. The blind man couldn’t find a wife, so they lived together.
They had a son, who was over twenty years old and hadn’t married yet.
Just a few days ago, they had finally arranged a girl for him. Who would have thought this would happen?
Time passed by minute by minute. The people present became increasingly silent.
The blind man kept digging the dirt with both hands, calling out to Yuanchao over and over again.
No one could persuade him.
His heart-wrenching cries made people feel a pang of sadness.
More and more people joined the rescue team.
“He’s here!”
The speaker was Qin Shuo.
He was squatting on a patch of flattened mud, with a pit already dug in front of him.
Hearing this, everyone was excited and rushed over.
Under a piece of wood, an arm appeared.
“He’s alive!” Someone saw his fingers twitch.
Hearing this, the scene erupted.
Hearing that his son was still alive, the blind man stumbled over to the spot.
Everyone continued to dig the dirt.
They realized that the wooden board had created a small space, giving him a chance to survive.
“I’ll move this stone first.” Qin Shuo said, carefully lifting the stone on the wooden board.
Rainwater continued to drip, flowing into the pit along the wooden board.
Some blood seeped out with the muddy water, indicating that the person inside was seriously injured.
Qin Shuo was strong. In two trips, he removed all the dirt and stones that were pressing down.
Everyone worked together to pull the man out of the pit.
As soon as he was brought outside, they discovered that his leg was still bleeding profusely.
Zhang Yuanchao was pale, with more air going out than coming in.
Xu Jiaojiao, who had been waiting nearby, took a long strip of cloth and handed it to Qin Shuo.
“Tie it up first.”
Qin Shuo, having been in the army, was skilled in rescuing injured people.
As soon as he received the cloth, he tied it tightly around his thigh, ensuring that the blood vessels were compressed.
Xu Jiaojiao quickly sprinkled the hemostatic medicine on the wound.
“We need to take him to the hospital immediately.”
Liu Guoqing didn’t hesitate. He had already called for a tractor.
Everyone carried the three injured people onto the vehicle.
Xu Jiaojiao also climbed onto the vehicle. She needed to keep an eye on Zhang Yuanchao’s wound to prevent his leg from being tied too tightly.
Several young men were also on board.
Unexpectedly, Qin Shuo became the driver this time.
After starting the vehicle, he jumped into the driver’s seat, turned his head towards Xu Jiaojiao, and said, “Sit tight.”
“I’m sitting tight!”
Xu Jiaojiao knew her own business. As soon as she got on the vehicle, she grabbed the railing tightly.
The vehicle “da da da” started moving.
Just when Xu Jiaojiao thought she was going to be thrown off again, she realized that this time it wasn’t too bumpy.
However, the other people on the vehicle looked solemn.
Zhang Yuanchao and the blind man were lying in the back of the vehicle, with a thick layer of straw underneath them.
Liu Xiaoyu had woken up but didn’t speak. She just silently wiped away her tears.
Fortunately, after driving for a while, the rain gradually stopped.
Everyone felt much better.
“Yuanchao!Hold on!”
Zhang Yuanchao’s breathing was becoming weaker, and the blind man’s voice trembled uncontrollably.
The tractor “da da da” sped along the mountain road.
Behind the vehicle, two deep tire tracks were left in the mud.
Xu Jiaojiao didn’t dare to look around. She just stared at Zhang Yuanchao who was lying on the straw.
Her thoughts were racing, but they all got stuck in her chest, neither coming out nor going in.
The journey was relatively smooth, with no roadblocks or landslides.
They didn’t waste any time, and Xu Jiaojiao didn’t need to loosen the bandage on Zhang Yuanchao’s leg.
Soon, they arrived at the commune.
The vehicle drove directly to the entrance of the hospital.
Several young men carried the injured people off the vehicle. Qin Shuo walked to the back of the vehicle and helped the blind man off.
The group rushed towards the hospital.
The hospital was two rows of tile-roofed houses, simple and unassuming.
“Doctor, help!”
As soon as Guo Yishan walked out, he was pulled by someone.
“Quick! Save my son!” The blind man said, pulling the doctor to look at Zhang Yuanchao.
“Carry him over here!” Guo Yishan didn’t hesitate. He immediately had people send him to the emergency room next door.
At this time, a nurse had already run over.
The group rushed into the examination room.
Upon seeing the patient who was on the verge of death, Guo Yishan was startled.
“Thank goodness they rescued him in time.”
