Chapter 8: Shocking! An Octogenarian Grandmother Enters an E-Sports Tournament!
Lu Corporation.
Lu Zeyan listened to the report on the phone, his brows tightly furrowed.
“President Lu, we followed your instructions and staged a fake fight with the thugs you hired. We were just about to complete the mission, but then suddenly, this badass white-haired old lady showed up with a group of people and took all our men down!”
As soon as Lu Zeyan heard the words “white-haired old lady,” his temples started throbbing.
It wasn’t hard to guess who that old lady was.
For more than twenty years, everything in his life had gone smoothly. No matter what his plans were, they never encountered any real obstacles.
But ever since this white-haired old lady showed up, his plans had been mysteriously derailed again and again. Things started to go wrong, and he couldn’t help but wonder if this damned old woman was somehow his nemesis.
Lu Zeyan hung up the phone, gritting his teeth in hatred.
Why hasn’t that old woman died yet?!
At this rate, when on earth would the Qin family go bankrupt? When would he be able to avenge his parents?
Back then, his parents had gone with the Qin family to country M to investigate a brain chip project. If they could have secured and further developed it, it would have marked a major technological breakthrough in human history, elevating the Lu family to an untouchable status in China.
But during that trip, his parents had suffered an “accident”—kidnapped and beaten to death by criminals—while the Qin family came out completely unscathed.
That project had attracted many covetous eyes. But why, out of everyone who had gone, were only his parents killed while the Qin family walked away unharmed?
Not long ago, through his investigations, he finally discovered that it had all been the Qin family’s doing. They were the ones who had caused his parents’ deaths!
Their goal? To monopolize the project and secure their position as the richest family in China!
After learning the truth, Lu Zeyan hadn’t gone a single day without wishing for the Qin family to suffer the consequences. But now that they controlled the project and were sitting atop a mountain of wealth, taking them down was proving almost impossible.
So he had no choice but to start from within—turn the Qin family against themselves, and wait to reap the rewards.
But now, if that old matriarch of the Qin family kept living day after day, his revenge plan could be seriously hindered.
Meanwhile, at Qin Jingxu’s side, who knew what kind of changes might occur?
Lu Zeyan quickly called Qin Jingxu. Testing the waters, he asked, “Jingxu, I heard something happened at the company. Are you okay?”
Qin Jingxu’s voice was calm and indifferent: “I’m fine. Everything’s been handled. No need to worry.”
“That’s good to hear. Did you find out who was behind it?”
Lu Zeyan was Qin Jingxu’s only friend, and Qin Jingxu saw no reason to hide things from him. “They said my second brother sent them. But he denied it.”
Lu Zeyan’s eyes narrowed slightly. He said slowly, “It’s possible your second brother staged it himself to gain your trust. After all, you know better than anyone how they’ve treated you all these years. But…”
He paused for effect before continuing, “Of course, this is just my guess. It’s also possible he really didn’t do it. Even though your second brother doesn’t usually pay attention to you and you two barely had any interaction growing up, you’re still blood. He might not stoop as low as others who would tear each other apart over the family fortune.”
His well-timed concern and vague suspicions subtly planted more doubt in Qin Jingxu’s mind.
Earlier, Qin Jingxu had just suspected that Qin He might have staged the incident himself. But he still couldn’t bring himself to believe that Grandma would team up with Qin He to target him.
But now that even Lu Zeyan had said the same thing, it made it feel more possible, even if he didn’t want to believe it…
Could it be that the only person who had ever treated him kindly—his grandmother—had started to hate him too?
But he hadn’t done anything wrong. So why couldn’t the Qin family tolerate him?
Qin Jingxu lowered his lashes, hiding the emotions in his eyes. His voice turned cold. “I’ll get to the bottom of this. You go ahead and take care of your own things.”
Inside the mall.
Lin Qingqing looked around at the people inside the mall, a bit confused.
She had no memory. Who exactly were her family members?
Was she supposed to go around asking everyone?
Would people think she had dementia?
After all, she was old enough for it now.
Inside the café in the mall.
Through the large glass wall, Qin Yansen spotted a white-haired old lady standing at the entrance, her body covered in tattoos. He froze instantly.
“Yansen? Yansen!”
Mu Yiyi, sitting across from him, noticed he was staring silently in a daze and followed his gaze.
Then she froze too!
Who was that old lady? Way too gangster!
Mu Yiyi asked in surprise, “Do you know her?”
Qin Yansen quickly averted his gaze, raised a hand to his forehead, and turned his face away from the glass wall. With a blank expression, he replied, “Nope. Never seen her.”
Mu Yiyi smiled gently. “That grandma has quite a bit of personality.”
She was definitely unique—but that didn’t change the fact that, to Qin Yansen, his grandma was seriously over the top.
He closed his eyes briefly, then returned to the main topic. “I’ve already arranged everything for this match. Your little brother is guaranteed to win the championship.”
A glint of slyness flashed in Mu Yiyi’s eyes. She glanced out the window at the electronic screen, which now displayed the announcement of the upcoming e-sports competition. She smiled softly and said, “Thank you. My brother has loved gaming since he was little. Even though it’s just a local city-level competition, he’s been looking forward to it for a long time. I didn’t want him to be disappointed. To show my gratitude, I’ll treat you to a meal sometime.”
Qin Yansen looked at her, stunned for a moment.
This was the first time Mu Yiyi had ever offered to treat him to a meal.
In the past, she always turned him down—let alone ever thanking him or doing something like this.
The corners of his mouth unconsciously lifted into a smile as he gazed affectionately at her. “Alright. If there’s anything else you ever need, just let me know. As long as it’s within my ability, I’ll help you.”
Mu Yiyi picked up the coffee cup in front of her and took a light sip. Then she looked up, carefully observing Qin Yansen’s expression. “Your grandma’s current situation… your family must be swamped. Maybe it’s better if you don’t waste energy on me…”
“It’s fine. My grandma’s in great health right now—nothing for me to worry about.” As he said this, Qin Yansen instinctively glanced outside the glass window. The old lady who had been standing at the mall entrance had now vanished without a trace.
She could still sneak out to meet male models at night, get tattoos, and was full of energy—what did she need him to worry about?
A trace of regret flickered in Mu Yiyi’s eyes. She pulled her lips into a smile and said, “That’s good to hear, but…”
She paused briefly and lowered her lashes, her expression turning a bit sorrowful. “I still prefer a peaceful life. Your family situation is too complicated right now. I don’t want to get dragged into fights over inheritance. I’m scared…”
In that moment, Qin Yansen saw a ray of hope. His eyes lit up, and he quickly reassured her, “Yiyi, as long as you’re willing to be with me, I’ll protect you no matter what. And the Qin family’s inheritance will soon be mine. I promise I’ll give you a stable life.”
Mu Yiyi said, “Then let’s talk about us once you really become the head of the Qin family.”
But Mu Yiyi had no intention of being with Qin Yansen. The one she truly loved was Lu Zeyan. Everything she was doing now was just to help him get revenge on the Qin family.
Qin Yansen had a crush on her, and that made him the perfect tool for her to use.
Just as she thought this, the large screen inside the mall café began to broadcast the e-sports competition.
Mu Yiyi immediately frowned.
Why was there a white-haired old lady sitting across from her brother’s team?
And that old lady… wasn’t she the same tattooed grandma they saw standing at the mall entrance just moments ago?!
