Chapter 35: Arrested and Taken to the Police Station

Wei Haiyang received the dispatch order and rushed to the antique street with a team of officers.

The scene was chaotic; many grandpas and grandmas were lying on the ground, constantly moaning in pain.

A man was squatting with his head in his hands, his head and face covered in something unknown.

Wei Haiyang quickly went over. “Police! Who called the police?”

Yu Yong shouted, “Help! I want to accuse them of intentionally injuring innocent passersby!”

Liu Sumei stood with her hips akimbo. “What are you pretending to be, a pure young boy?  The police are here; let’s go to the police station to settle the score.”

She hadn’t had time to call the police. Who called them?

Yu Yong stared coldly at her.

Liu Sumei glared right back.

This wasn’t over. Beating Yu Yong had released some anger, but in a few months, everyone would forget about it.

Liu Sumei planned to print hundreds of posters and put them everywhere to prevent other innocent girls from being deceived and falling into the Yu family’s den of wolves.

Wei Haiyang looked around and quickly ascertained the situation. “You, you, and you, all come with me.”

Yu Yong, Liu Siyu, and Liu Sumei had no objections.

The grandpas and grandmas raised their hands. “Officer, do we need to go too?”

More than a dozen elderly people lying on the ground tremblingly raised their hands.

Wei Haiyang rubbed his temples forcefully.

What kind of crazy missions was he taking on lately? If each of these grandpas and grandmas said something, the police station would explode.

Praying at the temple last time was useless; he should try a different temple next time.

Wei Haiyang said, “Others don’t need to go for now. Stay here and cooperate with Xiao Chen’s investigation.”

Xiao Chen took a group of grandpas and grandmas to a shady spot and began questioning them.

Seeing this, Lin Xi finished her sunflower seeds, prepared to pack up and go home.

As soon as she stood up, Wei Haiyang blocked her path, pulling out his police ID. “You need to come with me too.”

Lin Xi was stunned.

She just ate some gossip during the intermission; why was she being taken to the police station?

Sigh, there are risks to eating gossip; watching the excitement requires caution.

Lin Xi asked, “Why? I didn’t hit Yu Yong.”

Wei Haiyang stared at her impassively. “Someone reported you for spreading feudal superstitions and gathering for gambling.”

Lin Xi: “…”

She admitted to the first part, but what was the gambling thing about? Did gambling on a few bags of sunflower seeds count as gambling?

Wei Haiyang glanced at her. “Let’s go.”

Lin Xi decided to put up a fight. “There are at least five fortune-telling shops on this street; why don’t you arrest them?”

Wei Haiyang said, “Those shops have the proper licenses.”

In other words, she was operating without a license and had been reported.

Lin Xi had nothing to say; it was her first time ever riding in a police car.

The person who reported her, just you wait!

Police station.

Lin Xi and Wei Haiyang sat facing each other.

“Name?”

“Lin Xi.”

“Age?”

“Twenty.”

“ID card?”

“I didn’t bring it.”

“Where are your parents?”

“I don’t have any.”

“What do you do?”

“Freelance work.”

Wei Haiyang: “…”

He knocked on the desk. “Have your parents bring your ID card here.”

Lin Xi sighed and sent a message to Fu Jingyao.

[Emergency! I’m at the police station. Bring my ID to bail me out.]

Fu Jingyao replied instantly, [I’ll be there soon!]

Lin Xi took a nap, and Fu Jingyao arrived. A man in a suit was behind him.

Seeing that she was fine, Fu Jingyao relaxed. “What happened?”

Lin Xi chuckled awkwardly. “I was reported.”

Fu Jingyao understood. “Lawyer Huang.”

Lawyer Huang wiped the sweat from his brow. “Okay, leave it to me.”

He was in his office when Boss Fu, without saying a word, grabbed him and rushed to the police station.

He thought there was a problem with the ten-billion-dollar contract, but it seemed like a small matter.

Lawyer Huang cleared his throat. “I’ll take over this lady’s case.”

Wei Haiyang recognized him—Huang Wenchang.

A top lawyer in the legal field, he had handled many financial cases, and countless companies had hired him as a legal advisor.  He had reportedly ended up at Fu Corporation.

The only person Lawyer Huang would treat with such respect was the president of Fu Corporation.

Wei Haiyang took another look.

The man next to Lin Xi looked exactly like the picture in the magazine.

Wow! It’s really Boss Fu!

Does Boss Fu have a sister?

Fu Jingyao looked up at him. “Lin Xi’s matter is left to Lawyer Huang.”

Wei Haiyang nodded subconsciously. “Okay.”

“It’s actually not a big deal,” he explained briefly.

Huang Wenchang pushed up his glasses, speaking in an official tone. “Currently, there is no evidence to prove that this lady’s actions of engaging in feudal superstition caused any harm to society or individuals. Her actions were entirely based on personal belief, and our country guarantees freedom of religious belief…”

After listening to a bunch of legal articles, Wei Haiyang realized that, as Lawyer Huang said, there was no victim to report the case, so a warning would suffice.

“I understand.”

He took out a pamphlet promoting science. “Lin Xi, read this carefully when you get home. While there is freedom of religion, we should believe in science.”

Lin Xi accepted it and nodded obediently. “Okay.”

Wei Haiyang looked at the two of them. “Let’s do the paperwork, and you can take your sister away.”

Hearing the word “sister,” Fu Jingyao felt uncomfortable.

He moved his lips and said word by word, “Lin Xi is not my sister; she is my wife.”

Wei Haiyang was slightly surprised. “So, she’s your wife.”

Huang Wenchang’s eyes widened suddenly.

Wife!!

Boss Fu was actually married!!

He was the first person in the entire company to know.

Huang Wenchang frantically wiped his sweat, secretly observing Lin Xi.

So, Boss Fu liked this type—a girl who loves feudal superstitions.

No!  It should be a beautiful girl who loves traditional culture.

“Lawyer Huang, let’s go.”

A cold voice came, and Huang Wenchang snapped back to his senses, quickly following.

Leaving the police station, Huang Wenchang chuckled nervously. “Boss Fu, I have things to do at the company; I’ll go back first.”

Fu Jingyao nodded slightly. “Lawyer Huang, thank you for your hard work.”

“You’re welcome, you’re welcome.”

Huang Wenchang clutched his briefcase and ran off quickly.

A worker’s professional ethics; with Boss Fu and Mrs. Fu present, he couldn’t be a third wheel.

In the car, Lin Xi stuffed the science pamphlet into her bag, took out her copper coins, and started to perform a divination.

“I want to see who reported me?”

Fu Jingyao watched her quietly. “Need help?”

“No, I can handle it myself.”

The divination results came out, and Lin Xi chuckled. “Fugui, you’re going to pay for this!!”

Fu Jingyao said solemnly, “Go ahead and do it. If anything happens, I’m here for you.”

“Huh?”

Lin Xi thought for a second before understanding his meaning.

“In a civilized society, we don’t kill or set fires. I don’t want to go back to the police station.”

Fu Jingyao chuckled. “With Lawyer Huang, that won’t happen.”

Lin Xi looked up at him. “Thank you, Fu Jingyao.”

Fu Jingyao looked down at her, his mind suddenly flashing with the contents of the guidebook. He reached out and gently rubbed her head.

“Lin Xi, you don’t need to be so polite with me. We’re family.”

Hearing the word “family,” Lin Xi’s heart skipped a beat.

When Master was still alive, he hadn’t said that. Instead, he said that she had weak ties to her family and shouldn’t force familial bonds.

Master was often away from the Taoist temple; she had lived alone and gotten used to solving everything herself.

Fu Jingyao was the only person she could turn to for help when she encountered problems.

Xiao Jin and the others were good, but it was different.

Being with Fu Jingyao felt different from being with Xiao Jin.

However, Fu Jingyao’s touch just now was like petting a dog’s head.

No!  She’s not a dog.

Fugui’s annoying actions had lowered her intelligence.

Lin Xi twisted her bracelet.

Fugui, you’re done tonight!
