Chapter 6 A Sudden Car Accident
Lin Yuexi observed for a long time, buying a large batch of special-made flatbreads, sauces, and cheese, as well as handmade pasta, uneven in thickness but full of craftsmanship, paired with rich meat sauce, she ate two bowls in a row, and took away a thousand kilograms of dough and secret meat sauce. She went to Japan, and in the alleys of Kyoto, traditional Japanese confectionery shops were filled with exquisite pastries.
Sakura mochi was as pink as spring clouds, delicate bean paste filling wrapped in salted cherry blossom petals, a light bite, the floral fragrance and sweetness blended together; in the sushi shop, the master made it on the spot, fresh raw fish laid on top of soft and sticky vinegar rice, the tuna belly was rich in fat, the salmon was soft and sweet, she simply bought portable sushi tools, high-quality nori, fish sashimi cans, and so on, tens of thousands of them. She arrived in Africa, and in Morocco, she encountered a colorful market.
The food cooked in tagine pots was fragrant, the lamb and vegetables were stewed under the conical lid until they were tender and flavorful, the spices were rich and lingering. Lin Yuexi bought the uniquely shaped tagine pots and spice packs, and also bought tens of thousands of kilograms of lamb, putting them all into the space. As she traveled, Lin Yuexi’s space was filled with delicacies from all over the world, special kitchen utensils, and while the numbers on her bank card continued to decrease, she didn’t care. As her trip neared its end, she finally reached her last stop, the United States.
Thinking of the poor security in the 1970s, Lin Yuexi wanted to stock up on some self-defense weapons, as well as manufacturing techniques. These could not only be used for her own self-defense, but in the future, she could also offer them to the country and contribute her part… Lin Yuexi stepped into the United States, under the neon lights of a bustling city, there was a hidden undercurrent. She knew that stocking up on weapons was a big risk, but for her own safety after crossing over, and for the sake of contributing to the country after crossing over, she decided to take the risk. Using the connections she had built online and through various inquiries, she identified several key locations for underground arms deals.
Her first foray was at an underground gathering in an abandoned factory. The lights were dim, the shadows danced, and the accents of various countries intertwined in the damp and moldy air. The traders’ eyes were alert, various guns and ammunition boxes were laid out beside them, like fangs in the darkness.
Lin Yuexi suppressed the nervousness in her heart, pretending to be experienced as she walked through the crowd, her eyes quickly locking onto a lightweight but powerful wooden gun. It had sleek lines and gleamed in the dim light, its magazine capacity was impressive, suitable for close-range self-defense. After a fierce haggling with the seller, she calmly transferred money from her prepared anonymous account, and the moment she took the wooden gun, her fingers touched the cold metal, a sense of mission arose. As she delved deeper, she heard that there was a large-scale private weapons auction in the suburbs, where there were advanced military equipment.
She quickly arrived at the scene, seeing a huge warehouse transformed into a temporary exhibition hall, under the strong spotlights, machine guns, sniper rifles were dazzling. A new tactical shotgun attracted everyone’s attention, its adjustable firing mode, close combat could cause large-scale damage, long-range accuracy was also guaranteed. Lin Yuexi mingled with the bidding crowd, constantly raising her sign, the price soared, other people cast surprised glances, but she remained unfazed, finally winning the bid at a high price, and then had the other party deliver it to her designated location.
After ensuring that the person who delivered the gun left, she quickly put it into the space. In order to obtain the weapon manufacturing technology, she risked contacting a retired military engineer who was living in seclusion in the United States. The old man lived alone in a wooden house in the mountains, surrounded by hidden alarm devices. Lin Yuexi went alone to the appointment, presenting a rare and valuable antique as a gift, sincerely explaining her intentions.
The old man’s eyes were sharp, he scrutinized her for a long time, and finally was moved, taking out the blueprints he had treasured for many years, from the forging of precise gun parts to the improvement of ammunition formulas, he explained everything in detail. Lin Yuexi was overjoyed and quickly recorded it into the space storage device using a high-resolution scanner… Their transaction process was not smooth, the FBI’s eyes seemed to be everywhere.
Once, when exchanging key components on the street, the sound of a siren suddenly tore through the air. Lin Yuexi reacted quickly, using the complex terrain of the surrounding alleys and a pre-planned escape route, she drove away at high speed, cleverly shaking off the pursuit. In the last few days in the United States, she ran between hidden warehouses, integrating her weapons harvest.
Box after box of weapons and ammunition were neatly stacked, the guns were disassembled and maintained, wrapped in protective canvas, the blueprints and data were stored encrypted. When a warehouse in the space villa was filled to the brim, Lin Yuexi felt relieved. Everything was ready, she looked at the four digits on her bank card, which were too few to be any less, sighed, booked a flight back to China online, packed her bags again, checked out of the hotel, and prepared to head to the airport.
She hailed a taxi and said to the driver, “To the airport,” in English. The taxi drove smoothly towards the airport. Lin Yuexi looked out the window at the receding street scene, her heart filled with anticipation for her return to China, her mind still calculating how to properly use the supplies in the space to help herself and the country, the weapon blueprints and carefully collected food, kitchen utensils flashing in her mind alternately. Suddenly, a sharp, urgent screech of brakes tore through the air, followed by the pungent smell of burnt rubber from the tires violently rubbing against the ground.
Lin Yuexi looked up sharply and saw a huge truck, like a runaway bull, charging out of the side road, straight towards the taxi. The truck’s front end was twisted and deformed, obviously out of control for a long time, its speed did not decrease at all, carrying a destructive aura. The driver’s eyes widened in horror, instinctively slamming the steering wheel, the car body instantly tilted violently, the tires scratching out several terrifying arcs on the ground.
Lin Yuexi felt dizzy, her hands tightly gripping the handrail inside the car, her body was thrown to one side, hitting the car door hard. With a loud “bang,” the truck still hit the taxi, like a giant beast hitting an ant. The rear of the taxi was instantly lifted high, the glass shattered into countless pieces under the impact, flying out like darts, Lin Yuexi raised her hand to block, her hand back was instantly cut open with several bloody gashes.
The belongings in the car flew everywhere, her luggage bag burst open, souvenirs rolled all over the floor, the food packages that had not been put into the space were also smashed to pieces, the sauce splashed everywhere, and the strong aroma instantly filled the smoke-filled car.
The car’s metal could not withstand the pressure, it creaked ominously and began to twist and deform, the roof collapsed, compressing the space above Lin Yuexi’s head. Then came another violent jolt, the taxi was pushed forward by the truck for several meters, knocking over several trash cans and signs along the way, sparks flying. Lin Yuexi was jolted so hard that her internal organs seemed to be displaced, a mouthful of blood surged to her throat, she forced it down, but her eyes were fixed on the direction of the airport.
Just then, the truck and the taxi completely jammed, the engine made a strange roar and died, black smoke billowed out. Soon, the sound of sirens and the screams of passersby rang out, but all Lin Yuexi could hear was a buzzing in her ears, her vision was filled with stars, her consciousness gradually fading away in the pain and dizziness.
