Wang Jingyu glanced at his friend, “My sister married off, so now I have a nephew, right?”
“I want to bring your nephew home,” one person muttered.
As soon as he finished speaking, he noticed several pairs of eyes fixed on him, especially one sharp gaze that made him feel a bit uneasy.
Wang Jingyu twitched his mouth as he looked at the person who made the comment, “Did you not consider where you are when you said that?”
Before the person could respond, they caught sight of Su Yu’s ambiguous smile, which sent a shiver down their spine.
“I… I was just joking, no harm meant,” could the Prince stop looking at him like that?
“Besides my sister, Su Yu’s most beloved is Xiao Bao. How dare you think about taking Xiao Bao home? I suggest you reconsider if you value your life,” Wang Jingyu said sternly.
Qin Lang and the others nearby nodded in agreement. They had known Su Yu for a long time and understood just how much she cherished Xiao Bao.
Forget about the idea of taking Xiao Bao home – such thoughts should never even cross your mind. If anyone were to entertain such thoughts, Su Yu would definitely not let them off easily.
“I understand,” he said, realizing how formidable the Prince could be.
“What are you all doing? You’re all staring at each other like roosters in a fight,” Wang Jinhe approached and noticed the tense atmosphere, especially Su Yu’s peculiar gaze towards one person.
The others looked at that person with sympathy.
Looking from one person to another, Wang Jinhe asked, “What’s going on?”
“Nothing, just someone thought Xiao Bao was cute and wanted to take him home,” Wang Jingyu said with a suppressed smile.
Upon hearing this, Wang Jinhe’s gaze fell on the person Su Yu had been staring at, “Was it him who said that?”
“Yes.”
Wang Jinhe walked over to Su Yu, patting his arm, “He’s a guest, stop staring at him like that.”
With the imposing aura emanating from Su Yu, staring at someone like that could be seen as a warning not to make a move.
Although Su Yu was still displeased, he knew to listen to his wife’s words. He silently turned his head away, choosing not to look at the individual any longer.
The person who had been stared at by Su Yu breathed a sigh of relief. The Prince was too intimidating, and he resolved to watch his words more carefully in the future.
Su Xi smiled kindly. Ever since learning about Su Yu’s situation, he had been very concerned, but now it seemed that there was less to worry about. With Xiao He, Xiao Bao, and Xiao Zhi, the siblings, around, as well as their friends by Su Yu’s side, he wouldn’t be in any trouble. They all genuinely cared for Su Yu, ensuring he wouldn’t be left isolated and helpless.
Xiao Bao lost interest in the conversation and turned to see Su Xi smiling at Su Yu.
“Grandfather, what is Daddy doing?” Xiao Bao curiously asked.
“It’s nothing, Xiao Bao. Do you think your Daddy is happy now?” Su Xi asked earnestly, looking down at Xiao Bao.
Xiao Bao looked puzzled, not understanding the question.
“Daddy is very happy. He’s happy when he plays with us, and especially when he’s with Mommy,” Xiao Bao replied, emphasizing how happy his father was when he was with his mother.
Upon hearing Xiao Bao’s words, Su Xi smiled with amusement. Xiao Bao was right – at least his grandson was happy now.
“Go play,” he said.
Wang Jinhe came out of the kitchen, then returned, and soon after, the kitchen was filled with many dishes.
Wang Jingyu’s new friends looked surprised. There were so many dishes, and they all looked delicious.
“Do you always have this many dishes at your house?” one of them asked.
“You’re mistaken. Do you think my brother-in-law would let Xiao He cook for us every day?” In Su Yu’s words, Wang Jinhe’s hands were not meant for cooking. Occasionally cooking was fine, but expecting it every day was too much.
Su Yu raised an eyebrow at Wang Jingyu, “Do you have a problem with me?”
Wang Jingyu shook his head with a smile, “No.”
“Then be quiet and don’t speak. Why should my wife cook for you every day?” Su Yu looked at Wang Jingyu and huffed.
Wang Jingyu made a gesture of sealing his lips, “I’ll be quiet and eat.”
The family enjoyed their meal together, and after dinner, Su Xi and Su Long each gave Wang Jingyu and his friends a gift.
“Thank you, Grandpa Su.”
“Don’t be so polite with me. There will surely be many visitors in the next few days. Take a good rest today.”
Su Long suppressed a smile and said, “Even if people want to visit, it’s useless. This is Xiao Yu’s home.”
Su Xi paused for a moment before realizing that this was the Prince’s Royal Mansion, and indeed, some people’s visits would be futile.
Wang Jingyu watched Su Yu wiping the hands of the two children and, holding back a smile, said, “Brother-in-law, we might need you to help us out for a few days.”
Su Yu simply responded with an “okay.”
Qin Lang observed Su Yu’s child-friendly demeanor and still found it unbelievable. They knew what Su Yu was like outside.
But in front of the children, all sharp edges seemed to disappear. He appeared much gentler overall.
“No matter how many times I see it, I still find this version of Su Yu somewhat unbelievable,” remarked Luo Su.
Su Yu glanced at them, “What’s so unbelievable about it? It’s just a pair of eyes, a nose, a mouth, and two ears, right?”
“It’s not about that. It’s the stark contrast between how you are outside and how you are in front of your wife and children,” Luo Su propped his chin and observed Su Yu.
“Do you expect me to be the same in front of my family as I am outside? Are you foolish, or am I?” Su Yu retorted, giving Luo Su a disdainful look.
Is this person mentally challenged? Only someone mentally challenged would say such things.
Luo Su felt uncomfortable under Su Yu’s scrutinizing gaze, as if he was being judged as mentally challenged.
“Don’t look at me like that. It makes me feel like there’s something wrong with my brain,” Luo Su muttered nonchalantly.
Wang Jingyu sighed softly, realizing that Luo Su had put all his intelligence into the imperial examinations.
“By the way, Su Yu, Xiao He mentioned that you and you will be separated for a long time. Is there something important going on here?”
“Yes, Qi Empire has mobilized its troops. It’s currently just minor friction, but we will likely need to head to the border soon,” Su Yu disclosed, as everyone present was on the same side, and there was no need for secrecy.
As for Wang Jingyu’s new friends, Su Yu wasn’t too concerned. Some of them had officials in their families, and they would eventually need to know about these matters.
“What? Does that mean there will be a war?” one of them exclaimed.
Wang Jingyu wasn’t as anxious about the situation, considering that his sister and brother-in-law had been preparing for this all year. Supplies such as food, medicine, and herbs were all ready. The rest would be up to the generals.
“I will go to the battlefield,” Su Yu suddenly announced, catching everyone’s attention, especially Su Xi and the others. “Xiao Yu, what are you saying? You’re going to the battlefield?” Su Xi asked in disbelief.
Su Yu simply responded with a “yes,” adding, “The Emperor has already agreed.”
