Chapter 106: Grandfather 1/2
Zhou Chongcheng was not foolish; in fact, he was very intelligent. His son arrived in Shanghai before him but remained hidden, undoubtedly with a purpose.
If his son had people tracking Feng Yi, there must be a reason for it. Could his son be attempting to steal secrets on the mainland? No, that’s unlikely; his son doesn’t have the capability.
While Zhou Chongcheng contemplated various possibilities with a serious expression, Zhou Sigu had already been startled.
The police were actually investigating him.
Zhou Sigu dared not look at his father’s face and could only blush, saying, “This is my personal privacy! You cannot violate my personal privacy!”
The police looked at Zhou Sigu in silence. Considering their identities, they had been quite courteous by not searching their residences.
After detailing Zhou Sigu’s information, the police briefly mentioned Zhou Chongcheng’s situation and then said, “Mr. Zhou Chongcheng, Mr. Zhou Sigu, could you please share your whereabouts during this period?”
Zhou Chongcheng glanced at his son and then explained his movements. There was nothing to hide: “I was in Shanghai before the New Year, drove to Lutongxiang on New Year’s Eve, and stayed there until the fifth day of the Lunar New Year.”
Feng Yi’s expression became somewhat unpleasant.
He had been pondering the reasons why the Zhou family was tracking him, and now he had a clue.
Lutongxiang was where his grandmother’s house was located, and it was also where his biological father lived.
He knew almost nothing about his biological father and his family situation. All he knew was that his biological father shared the surname Zhou with a prominent family in Lutongxiang.
Zhou Qiuxia never talked to him about his father. After marrying into the Feng family, she never brought him back to her hometown. His scant knowledge about his biological father came from Feng Laotou’s deceased mother.
According to her, his father had overseas connections and died in an accident.
Could these two people be his father’s “overseas connections”?
They visited Lutongxiang; they must be aware of his existence, yet they didn’t recognise him, instead discreetly following him. It didn’t seem like something good.
Zhou Chongcheng had lectured him condescendingly the first time they met at the hamburger joint and now sent people to track him.
Many thoughts crossed Feng Yi’s mind, and he then said to the police, “Officer, my hometown is Lutongxiang! They went there; could they have had sinister motives against me? I’ve seen this old man a few times before.”
Upon hearing Feng Yi’s words, Zhou Chongcheng was stunned.
Zhou Sigu, on the other hand, turned pale.
He didn’t want his father to know about Feng Yi, but unfortunately, he ended up letting his father find out.
“Your hometown is Lutongxiang. Who is your father?” Zhou Chongcheng suddenly asked Feng Yi.
Feng Yi replied, “My father’s name is Zhou Chengzhi.”
Zhou Qiuxia didn’t want him to know about his biological father, but for high school and college applications, he needed to fill in his father’s name.
Feng Yi hadn’t inquired much about his father’s situation, but he knew his father’s name.
As for why he hadn’t investigated further… That person had long been gone; what good would it do to enquire?
According to Feng Yi’s original plan, he intended to visit Lutongxiang after graduating and finding a job.
Seeing the situation turning against him, Zhou Sigu remained silent. Zhou Chongcheng asked, “Aren’t you surnamed Feng?”
Feng Yi replied, “After my dad passed away, my mum remarried, and my stepfather’s surname is Feng.”
Suddenly, Zhou Chongcheng stood up, walked towards Zhou Sigu, and slapped him across the face, saying, “Beast!”
Zhou Chongcheng had always been fond of his child and had never laid a hand on him before. But at this moment, he couldn’t bear it.
Feng Yi resembled him, and Feng Yi’s father was named Zhou Chengzhi. Zhou Sigu had arrived on the mainland earlier than he claimed and arranged for people to track Feng Yi.
So, all these years, he had been deceived?
He trusted his friends, believed his wife, and had faith in his son, and they were all deceiving him?
His wife and child didn’t die back then.
Zhou Chongcheng’s head buzzed as he recalled many things.
For instance, family members hint that his hometown might not welcome him, and those occupying his old house might cause embarrassment upon his return.
Three years ago, when he wanted to go back to his hometown, his wife fell ill.
Earlier, when he mentioned Feng Yi to Zhou Sigu, Zhou Sigu’s expression changed…
Zhou Sigu covered his face, looking embarrassed, and said, “Dad…”
“Don’t call me dad! Is this how you repay my trust?” Zhou Chongcheng was furious.
Zhou Sigu must have known everything but didn’t tell him, keeping it a secret along with others.
A son who deceived him!
He paved the way for Zhou Sigu, devoted himself to him, and covered for him when problems arose. And what did Zhou Sigu do? He knew about Feng Yi but kept it from him.
Why did Zhou Sigu send someone to track Feng Yi? What was the motive?
Zhou Chongcheng’s hands trembled as he told the police, “Officer, Zhou Chengzhi is my son. If everything goes as expected, Feng Yi is my grandson, my own grandson.”
As Zhou Chongcheng stood up, the police became cautious, fearing he might do something.
In the midst of their confusion, Zhou Chongcheng revealed that Feng Yi was his grandson.
What was going on? Upon closer inspection, Feng Yi actually resembled Zhou Chongcheng more than Zhou Sigu.
Feng Yi was also struggling to grasp the situation.
He didn’t know much about his biological father. When he was very young, Zhou Qiuxia kept him confined, and he had no contact with the outside world. Later, when Zhou Qiuxia married into Qiaotou Village, he became completely isolated from Lutongxiang.
Now… Was his grandfather still alive? Living a good life?
If this was his grandfather, why hadn’t he come to find him since he went to Lutongxiang?
Why did his father’s son send someone to track him?
Feng Yi looked at Zhou Chongcheng with a hint of caution.
Zhou Chongcheng met Feng Yi’s gaze, feeling a pang of sadness. Coincidentally, at this moment, the person who was coordinating investment for the factory arrived.
The situation became clear: Zhou Sigu arranged for someone to track Feng Yi because Feng Yi is his nephew.
Zhou Chongcheng and Zhou Sigu were ultimately released, and Zhou Chongcheng arranged for someone to take Feng Yi back to the house he shared with Jiang Liyun.
“Feng Yi, what’s the situation with the person who was tracking you?” Jiang Liyun asked upon seeing Feng Yi.
Feng Yi replied, “Liyun, Zhou Chongcheng says he’s my grandfather.”
Jiang Liyun was stunned.
Zhou Chongcheng was Feng Yi’s grandfather. How could that be?
If Zhou Chongcheng was Feng Yi’s grandfather, why didn’t he come to find Feng Yi in his previous life?
Back then, she hadn’t divorced from Xie Zugen, and Feng Yi was working outside. If Zhou Chongcheng had found Feng Yi, his life would have surely undergone a drastic change.
“He says he was deceived and didn’t know about my existence,” Feng Yi said, “but if he genuinely cared, how could he be so easily deceived?”
Jiang Liyun thought for a moment and asked Feng Yi, “Feng Yi, do you plan to return to the Zhou family? What are your plans for the future with such a powerful grandfather suddenly appearing? Jiang Liyun didn’t know how Feng Yi would choose.
“I won’t go back. I find my current life quite good, and I don’t want it to change,” Feng Yi said.
He no longer valued the sudden appearance of his grandfather. He had a university education, earned money, and even bought a house with Jiang Liyun.
He had already planned his future and didn’t want any changes due to Zhou Chongcheng’s arrival. The situation in the Zhou family was complicated, and returning would only bring trouble.
Thinking back to the police station, Zhou Chongcheng initially defended Zhou Sigu, and Zhou Sigu’s continuous hostility towards him made Feng Yi have no good feelings for those people.
While Feng Yi and Jiang Liyun were talking, on the other side, Zhou Chongcheng was interrogating his son and the people around him.
After this ordeal, he roughly figured out the whole story.
His ex-wife and eldest son didn’t die early, as his friend claimed; in fact, they were alive all along.
His son had known about this three years ago but fabricated information to deceive him.
Lutongxiang was his hometown and a place of heartbreak. Despite visiting during the New Year, he kept a low profile.
Yet, from start to finish, he had been deceived by his son!
Such a good son!
And his good friend, who was also his brother-in-law, and his wife… They were all keeping things from him!
Filled with anger, Zhou Chongcheng didn’t sleep the entire night.
The next day, he had his driver take him to find Feng Yi.
Arriving early in the morning, he didn’t go upstairs to disturb Feng Yi. Instead, he had the driver park the car downstairs.
Knowing that young people woke up late, he thought he would have to wait a long time to see Feng Yi. However, shortly after the car stopped, he saw Feng Yi coming down from upstairs.
Feng Yi seemed to be in a good mood, with a slight smile on his face, and descended the stairs with a cheerful demeanour.
Zhou Chongcheng pushed the door and got out of the car, calling out to Feng Yi, “Feng Yi.”
Feng Yi stopped in his tracks, looking towards him.
Zhou Chongcheng said, “Let’s talk.”
Feng Yi replied, “Not now; I’m going to buy breakfast for Liyun sister.”
Last night, Zhou Zhongcheng already learned about Feng Yi’s situation from Zhou Siguy.
After Zhou Siguy couldn’t hide it from him anymore, she stopped concealing and revealed all about Feng Yi’s situation, naturally not without shifting the blame.
