Chapter 22: Sold Out
Seeing her companion buy one, the female comrade next to her didn’t hesitate either.
She chose a simple headband, a hair clip with lots of flowers, and a hair tie.
Obviously, Xu Sangluo’s appearance was a living advertisement.
The two of them left arm in arm, probably eager to go home and try them on.
A few more people gathered around.
Xu Sangluo answered questions while watching the female comrade from the photo studio who was still hesitating.
“Comrade, actually, your photo studio could really use more hair accessories. Maybe it could attract more people. After all, one hair accessory can be used infinitely, and you can charge more for styling.”
This statement was a bit novel, but the female comrade understood.
She thought about it and felt that Xu Sangluo had a point.
Originally, she just wanted to buy some for herself.
But if she used them for the photo studio, she could apply for reimbursement, and she could also change them up for work.
Her eyes lit up, “Okay, I’ll take a hair tie, a headband, these three hair ties, and this hair clip. Six items, can I get two free?”
“Of course, you have a total of 4 yuan and 50 cents. Do you want to choose another one to make it 5 yuan? You can get 10 cents off.”
“Ah, okay, I’ll take this one. Is that enough?”
“Just right, 5 yuan. It’s 4 yuan and 90 cents. Here are two free gifts. Thank you for your patronage.”
This small wave of excitement attracted some people.
Basically, everyone who came by bought one or two items, which was a good start.
Unfortunately, there weren’t many people at the moment.
She took advantage of the excitement and sold a small batch. In the next hour, only five or six people bought things, scattered here and there.
And they usually only bought one item, the cheapest headband or hair clip.
Xu Sangluo waited for a while, seeing that there weren’t many people, she simply pushed her cart and strolled around slowly.
She changed locations twice, and business was a little better.
In the morning, she had made at least 30 yuan, which was a good start.
You know, this whole batch, excluding labor costs, only cost about 5 yuan.
That didn’t include the unsold items.
She had brought over 100 items, all made in a hurry yesterday.
She had sold almost 40 items in the morning.
She secretly took out her watch and checked the time. It was almost time for school and work to let out.
She rode her bicycle to the gate of the nearby cotton mill to wait.
There were only three factories in town: the cotton mill, the brick factory, and the fertilizer factory.
They weren’t very big.
However, each factory had about a hundred people.
Generally, there were more female workers in textile factories.
She didn’t know much about this, so she chose the cotton mill first.
While waiting, she ate two buns.
She kept everything in her space, pretending to take it out of her bag. It was still warm.
After finishing, she waited for about ten minutes, and then she heard the factory bell ringing.
Then she saw the factory gate open, and two minutes later, people started to walk out one by one.
Xu Sangluo waited until more people came out and then started to call out softly.
There were indeed more female workers in the cotton mill.
Out of ten people, at least seven were female comrades.
Everyone was curious about Xu Sangluo by the wall, but no one took the initiative to approach her.
When she called out, it attracted everyone’s attention.
Soon, some female comrades couldn’t help but gather around to ask questions.
After all, Xu Sangluo’s appearance was too eye-catching. Her modeling effect was perfect.
Qin Zhiyi knew that Xu Sangluo would be setting up a stall in town today.
Although she confidently said she would be fine, he was still worried. He didn’t go to the scrap yard at noon and instead went around town looking for her, wanting to see if she was still there.
After walking for about twenty minutes, he finally met Xu Sangluo and Qin Zhiyu on the street.
The two of them were squatting by an old farmer’s bamboo basket, picking vegetables.
Apparently, the Qin siblings were on the same page.
Qin Zhiyu didn’t go home after school but ran around town to see if Xu Sangluo had gone back.
The town wasn’t far from home, so the twins didn’t pay for meals and ran back to eat lunch every day.
Qin Zhiyu was in the county and had to take the bus back and forth every day. To save some bus fare, he ate lunch at school.
The cotton mill was just across the street from the school.
When she ran past the street corner, she heard a commotion and looked out of curiosity.
Then she heard Xu Sangluo’s voice faintly from the crowd.
She squeezed in and saw that it was indeed Xu Sangluo.
Then she squeezed in to help sell things and collect money.
In just over ten minutes, they had sold almost everything.
Only a few items were left, and Xu Sangluo didn’t wait any longer.
The two of them were about to go home when they saw an old farmer selling vegetables on the road.
Thinking that the vegetables at home were almost gone, Xu Sangluo stopped to buy some.
Today’s harvest was quite plentiful.
Although Qin Zhiyu didn’t know how much they had sold in total, she had seen the banknotes being handed over when she was helping.
She had been so overwhelmed by collecting the money that her head was a little blank. Even now, she was still a little dazed and couldn’t believe it.
So now, she wasn’t worried about spending money.
“Big brother?” Qin Zhiyu saw Qin Zhiyi first and called out in surprise.
Xu Sangluo turned her head and was also surprised to see him.
“What are you doing here?” Shouldn’t he be at the scrap yard?
“I came to take a look.” Qin Zhiyi glanced at the bicycle, but he couldn’t see anything unusual. He didn’t know if she had sold anything.
So he didn’t ask directly.
But Xu Sangluo understood.
She smiled, “That’s great. Do you want to go home for dinner?”
Qin Zhiyi shook his head, “No, I have to go back. You two should go back early too.”
“Okay.” The siblings nodded obediently.
Xu Sangluo pretended to take a small cloth bag from the bamboo basket.
“There are two buns left. Have them to fill your stomach.”
“Okay.” Qin Zhiyi took it and nodded, then urged, “You two go back quickly.”
Then he turned around and left quickly.
Xu Sangluo watched his broad back and couldn’t help but smile.
She didn’t stay long either. After picking out the vegetables, she took Qin Zhiyu back home.
Qin Zhiyi took the cloth bag and walked towards the scrap yard.
But before he got there, he heard a call.
He turned around and saw Boss Liu running towards him.
“Da Qin, where have you been today? I thought you weren’t coming.” Boss Liu took a breath.
Qin Zhiyi was surprised, “I had something to do just now. Is there something wrong?”
He worked at the scrap yard on a piece-rate basis, so it didn’t matter when he went.
He usually went after work in the morning.
But sometimes, he would be delayed and go later, or he wouldn’t go at all.
Why was Boss Liu specifically asking him today?
Boss Liu waved his hand, “No, no. I just wanted to ask you something.”
He rubbed his hands and chuckled, seeming a little embarrassed.
His round, fat face, his eyes were almost squeezed into slits.
Qin Zhiyi straightened his expression, “What is it? Tell me.”
“It’s this. The buns you made yesterday, were they really made by your family?” Boss Liu continued to rub his hands. When he mentioned the buns, he seemed to swallow his saliva.
