Chapter 40: A Wave of People Came to Ask for Work
Xu Sangluo laughed, “No, we have braised meat today. Do you want some, Yan Yan?”
She had bought a lot of pork and offal today, planning to braise a big pot of meat.
The other basket was full of fruit, which she had taken out of her space.
There were apples, pears, and oranges.
The little guy’s eyes lit up when he heard this, and he answered generously, “Yes!”
Xu Sangluo was amused.
It got dark quickly after autumn, and it was almost six o’clock now, the sky was already getting dark.
Qin Mama was in the house, lighting a lamp and doing her handiwork. Hearing the noise, she also hobbled out, leaning on her cane.
Seeing that they had all returned safely, she breathed a sigh of relief.
Xu Sangluo greeted her, and then asked, “Qin Mama, did anything happen at home today?”
Qin Mama was stunned, then a little surprised.
“Why are you asking that?” Then she frowned, “Did someone come to you and say something when you were coming back?”
Xu Sangluo immediately showed an expression of “I knew it.”
She nodded, “I met a few aunties, and they talked about hiring workers.”
When they were coming back, their cart was stopped by a few aunties on the road.
It seemed like they were deliberately waiting by the roadside.
But those people didn’t say anything, they just smiled and asked if she was still hiring workers, and kept recommending themselves or their family members.
They also said some things that were a bit like moral blackmail.
Qin Mama’s face turned stern when she heard this, she was furious, and then said to Xu Sangluo, “Don’t worry about them, I’ll handle these people.”
Then she briefly told her what happened.
A lot of people suddenly came to the door today.
The courtyard door was constantly being knocked on, seriously disrupting their work.
Most of them came to ask if she was still hiring workers.
Qin Mama was a little confused, why did they all suddenly come to ask?
She found out that it was because San Ya’s mother had a big mouth and let it slip when she was bragging last night.
Soon, the news that San Ya earned 21 yuan a day working at Qin’s house spread.
Then, last night, some of the people who came to work had someone come to inquire.
Although everyone kept their mouths shut, from their attitude, everyone also felt that it shouldn’t be too bad.
So, early this morning, everyone couldn’t help but come to the door and ask, with a thick face.
Among them were also the people who had openly competed with Xu Sangluo for business.
It was really too tempting, earning ten or twenty yuan a day.
The men, however, thought it was unreliable and disapproved of this “capitalist” approach, believing that people should work honestly in factories or farm the land to make a living.
But they couldn’t resist the allure of money.
However, those who came to the door today were all sent away by Qin Mama and a few aunties.
But they didn’t expect them to be so shameless as to stop Xu Sangluo’s cart, which made Qin Mama even angrier.
Xu Sangluo thought for a moment and said, “Maybe we don’t have to turn them all away. We might need more workers in the future.”
Qin Mama was stunned, then surprised, “Do we need that many?”
Then she looked at the empty cart, had they sold out everything today?
She couldn’t help but gasp, were the people in the county so rich?
She thought that many people had bought things yesterday, and even if business was good today, they should only have sold half of it.
Xu Sangluo just smiled, “I’ll tell you more later.”
When Qin Zhiyi came back, everyone sat down at the dinner table, and Xu Sangluo told them about the cooperation with the supply and marketing cooperative.
Everyone was stunned, they couldn’t believe it, even more unbelievable than earning two thousand yuan a day.
“This, is this true? The supply and marketing cooperative really wants to sell our things?” Qin Mama stammered.
In people’s minds, the supply and marketing cooperative was a state-owned store, and the goods were all ordered from major factories.
They rarely heard of them selling private goods, at least she hadn’t seen it here.
Unexpectedly, even the supply and marketing cooperative had taken a liking to their things, Qin Mama was a little proud, but also a little nervous.
“Sangluo, will this really work? Will there be any problems?”
Xu Sangluo smiled and reassured her, “Don’t worry, as long as we guarantee the quality, Chunsheng Supply and Marketing Cooperative should have cooperation with the city’s supply and marketing cooperative. They will also send some to the city. If it sells well, the order quantity will definitely go up, so we’ll probably need to find more people.”
Hearing about hiring people, Qin Mama thought of the people who came to the door today and made a fuss, saying all sorts of nonsense, and her brows furrowed.
“But I’m worried that if there are too many people, they will learn the techniques and sell them themselves.”
Xu Sangluo smiled, “It’s okay, unless they can also form a large team like us, otherwise, they’ll only sell a few dozen or a few tens of pieces, it won’t affect us. But to prevent this as much as possible, I plan to split the craftsmanship.”
“What do you mean?”
“For example, a hair hoop, one person is responsible for mass-producing the fabric flowers that adorn it, and another person is responsible for sewing the beads that adorn it,
One person is responsible for sewing the fabric strips that wrap the hair hoop, another person is responsible for the final wrapping and stitching, and so on.
Everyone’s eyes lit up when they heard this.
Indeed, this would prevent the technology from being leaked to a certain extent.
Even if they could all learn it, it would take them a while to figure it out.
As for the simple ones that anyone could learn, they weren’t expensive either.
It was still the same thing, it wouldn’t affect them.
That night, Xu Sangluo made a new list.
Each process was still paid by piecework, but the wages were adjusted.
Since they were only doing a small part of the process, it naturally couldn’t be compared to doing the whole thing.
But doing part of the process would also be faster than doing the whole thing.
So, in fact, the wages were about the same.
As long as they were quick and didn’t slack off, it would be easy to earn a few yuan a day.
But this matter would have to wait until two days later.
She didn’t plan to release too much at once, a little bit of hunger marketing was still necessary.
Therefore, she didn’t plan to set up a stall tomorrow, she would just send a batch to the supply and marketing cooperative to sell.
After all, she had basically done all the advertising today.
But she would have to go buy another batch of materials tomorrow.
“I’ll go with you tomorrow.”
Qin Zhiyi said this when he came to the yard to relax after she finished her work.
Xu Sangluo was startled by him.
It was already nine o’clock at night, and the yard was pitch black.
She didn’t know how long Qin Zhiyi had been standing under the eaves.
“Why are you here?” she asked, covering her pounding heart, a little speechless.
Then she remembered what he had just said, thinking that he wanted to take a day off tomorrow to help, she waved her hand, “No, no, Xiaoshu and I are enough.”
It was Qin Zhishu’s turn to take a day off tomorrow.
But Qin Zhiyi said, “I’ve already submitted my resignation letter.”
“What?” Xu Sangluo was startled, “Why didn’t you say anything tonight? Why did you resign?”
Although the factory didn’t pay much.
But being able to enter a factory was still considered an iron rice bowl.
Because entering a factory meant working for the country, and the salary was stable, there was free medical care, and in the future, they could also be assigned a house to live in.
So, even though Xu Sangluo could make money doing business, many people still didn’t approve of it, and even felt a little disgusted.
They thought that her actions were promoting capitalism and were not in line with the Party’s ideology, and that she would eventually get into trouble.
