Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 26: The Gossip Is Exciting

The tank beside her seemed to sense its owner’s increasingly somber mood, so it shifted closer to her.

Feeling it move near, Nan Muran lowered her head and said, “Since there’s nothing else to do, how about we work out together?”

She pressed the switch for the electric blinds, leaving only a table lamp beside the sofa on, and the large living room was bathed in soft, diffused light.

While the tank was still a little slow, a wooden dagger suddenly appeared in Nan Muran’s hand. With a clever angle, she struck toward the tank.

The person and the dog, under the weak light, began a back-and-forth confrontation, relying on their eyesight, reflexes, and judgment.

It had to be acknowledged that Jia Wu really trained the tank well. It reacted swiftly, attacked quickly, and most impressively, it had a battle mindset, even though it was just a dog.

An hour and a half later, both the human and the dog were exhausted and collapsed onto the floor. Only then did they stop.

Although her own room had electricity, and she could have turned on all the lights, Nan Muran had no intention of standing out in the ink-dark night. So, after a simple wash-up post-training, she went to bed early.

The tank obediently followed her into the bedroom, curling up in its soft dog bed on the sofa.

Lying in her soft bed, Nan Muran soon fell asleep.

The tank, feeling its owner’s steady breathing, also peacefully drifted off.

In the middle of the night, the tank, soundly asleep on the sofa, suddenly got up, alert.

At the same time, Nan Muran woke up as well.

The person and the dog opened the bedroom door and quietly approached the front door.

Nan Muran furrowed her brows upon hearing low voices from outside. These people had arrived so quickly.

“Are you sure you can open this door? We’ve already asked many locksmiths, and they said it’s impossible,” came the voice of the security captain.

“Don’t worry, I’ve opened bank vaults. This door is nothing.” An older voice replied, sounding like the person was fiddling with something in his hands.

A younger voice proudly added, “My uncle’s the famous ‘Master Thief’ of Southeast Asia. There’s no lock he can’t open. Captain, you can trust him.”

“Just thinking about it makes me excited. Did you see that woman in there? She looks like a fairy. This must be so exciting.” The security captain sounded increasingly animated.

The others nearby gave lecherous, malicious laughs.

“And look at her; she clearly hasn’t been hungry, and this place must have plenty of supplies.” A new voice added.

Xiao Liu gently tapped Nan Muran’s arm.

It was a signal that there were five people outside, all from the apartment’s security team.

There was also an older man trying to pick the lock, and it seemed the door wouldn’t hold for much longer.

In order to prevent the man from completely breaking the door, Nan Muran immediately changed into military boots from the nearby shoe cabinet, grabbed a tactical jacket from the hanger, and opened the door from the inside.

With a click, the door swung open, and the elderly man with the precise tools was left frozen in place.

Unfortunately, before he could react, he felt a cold breeze on his neck, and his pupils widened as his body uncontrollably fell to the ground.

“Ah…” The young security guard holding a flashlight dropped to the floor in fear.

At the same time, the tank beside Nan Muran leaped and sank its teeth into the neck of one of the guards, immediately ending his life.

Originally, six people had approached, but in the blink of an eye, only four remained.

The security captain immediately drew his baton, his gaze turning vicious.

Nan Muran smiled coldly: “What do you want to do?”

“Ah…” The security captain hesitated, then without further thought, rushed forward with the baton.

The seemingly fierce attack had gaping flaws in Nan Muran’s eyes. She sidestepped, slipping past his arm, and reversed the dagger in her hand to stab directly into the security captain’s neck from behind.

Blood splattered, like pearls breaking free of a string, pooling onto the floor.

“Please, don’t kill me. I beg you, don’t kill me!” The remaining three guards, terrified by the scene, were now pleading.

Nan Muran coldly watched them tremble on the ground, her lips curling into a smirk: “I’m sure someone once begged you like this, right?”

Two of them visibly flinched.

Only the youngest guard, still holding the flashlight, shook his head frantically: “No, no, I won’t dare again, I swear.”

Without hesitation, Nan Muran slashed the throats of the other two guards.

Finally, she turned her attention to the young guard with the flashlight, her tone softer as she clearly sized up his face: “You, take their bodies to the stairwell.”

Seeing the guard still trembling and begging, Nan Muran, irritated, pressed her temple. She was baffled as to how this guy, in her past life, had had the audacity to interrupt Zhang Kun’s rescue of her: “If you don’t want to die, hurry up.”

The young guard snapped back to reality, but as he tried to stand, his foot slipped on the blood, and he fell face-first onto the body of one of the others.

He immediately started crying but managed to crawl and drag the bodies one by one to the stairwell as instructed.

After watching him sob while doing the work, Nan Muran frowned: “Tell me, what’s going on with your security team?”

Just moments ago, when her door was about to be opened, she realized the situation with the security team was different from the previous life.

In her past life, she had stayed in her house for two and a half months, but she never encountered an old man who could open locks.

“What do you mean?” The young guard asked, shivering.

“How many people are involved, who’s leading, and what bad things have they done? And where did the old man come from?”

The security team had originally numbered 21 people. Now, in this apartment building, except for a few households, the rest of the supplies were controlled by the security team. Every day, the residents had to go to the 21st floor to collect their supplies.

The requirement for collecting supplies was that they must be women, unless there were no women in the household, in which case men could collect. It was obvious what the aim was.

A few households had stockpiled supplies but couldn’t open their doors, so recently, the security captain had been looking for someone who could open special locks. The old man was the uncle of He Cheng, a member of the security team, and was part of a criminal gang from Southeast Asia, a top-notch locksmith.

After he arrived, the old man had indeed helped open two doors for the security team. A week ago, he had opened a door on the 12th floor.

“The 12th floor?” Nan Muran frowned.

“Yes, they broke in, beat up the old lady, and assaulted the daughter in that household. I heard they even aborted the child she was carrying.” The young guard spoke with some hesitation.

Nan Muran immediately realized. Given that Nan Muting had been pregnant for over four months, it made sense that she hadn’t shown much: “Anything else?”

“Well, the daughter there wasn’t a good person either. After the incident, she often came to the 21st floor to exchange food. Since she was so carefree and played around, they really liked her.” The young guard, amidst the bodies, felt like his heart was breaking.

Nan Muran was clearly surprised by this. She hadn’t expected Nan Muting to be so reckless. Wasn’t she supposed to love Qi Li the most? How could she act so wildly under his nose?

For a moment, her gossiping heart couldn’t resist.
