Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 31: Qi Qing is Humiliated

The two of them unconsciously looked at each other, a shared sense of relief from surviving a close call.

Nan Muran brought Tank back to her apartment.

After closing the door, she immediately turned on the main light in the living room. “Tank, come here and lie down, let me check your injury.”

Tank obediently lay down at her side, and Nan Muran parted his long fur to find where he had been struck, only to discover a wound about half a finger long. She instantly felt she had been too kind to that woman and Zhang Kun.

“Does it hurt? Is everything okay inside? Any bone fractures or internal injuries?” Nan Muran’s tone was obviously anxious.

Before Tank could respond, her hand was already placed over the wound, and within moments, the injury on Tank’s body healed.

On the other side of the room, the once lush ivy in the corner visibly withered at an alarming rate.

Tank stared blankly at the wound that had mysteriously disappeared and the pain that had vanished. He nudged Nan Muran’s hand with his nose.

“There’s nothing to worry about. This is a power from my body. It’s not visible to the naked eye,” Nan Muran explained seriously before pulling Tank into a tight hug. “Thank you, Tank. You saved me again today.”

Though Tank couldn’t understand his owner’s words, he could sense her happiness, so he obediently lay on her shoulder and extended his front paws to embrace her.

Qi Li didn’t know how he got home from the 21st floor. It wasn’t until he lay back on his bed that he realized he was still uncontrollably trembling.

The image of Nan Muran’s smile kept flashing in his mind, followed by her expression when she killed someone without even blinking, and her obvious murderous intent toward him.

This side of Nan Muran made him feel like a stranger. When had she become so different? Qi Li couldn’t help but wonder. Eventually, he recalled the stubborn girl in front of the Nan family villa, her eyes determined as she told him that everything in the Nan family belonged to her.

Perhaps it was because of the shock he had endured. The next morning, when Qi Qing called him for breakfast, she found that Qi Li had developed a fever, his body burning like a furnace.

“39.8 degrees, what should we do? The fever medicine at home is all used up,” Qi’s mother looked at Qi Li, burning uncontrollably, and frowned at her daughter.

“Go out and find some, what’s the use of standing here crying? If the fever lasts too long, it could kill him,” Qi’s grandmother was extremely anxious. After all, Qi Li was the only heir of their family.

Qi Qing looked at her mother wiping her tears, her heart softening. “Mom, you look after Qi Li, I’ll see if any neighbors have medicine.”

“Alright, go and come back quickly,” Qi’s mother hesitated for a moment as she looked at Qi Li before softly urging Qi Qing.

Qi Qing nodded with a smile as she put on her coat. “Don’t worry, Mom, Grandma, I’ll be back soon. You try to bring his temperature down with water.”

“Good, be safe, Qing’er,” Qi’s grandmother sighed imperceptibly as she watched Qi Qing’s figure disappear, “Child, don’t blame your grandma. In this world, we have no choice.”

Nan Muran didn’t wake up until after 10 a.m. After washing up, she found that the air conditioning had kept the room dry and comfortable. She wore a T-shirt and jeans, then took out steamed pork, lamb blood soup, pickled vegetables, and flatbread from her space, sitting down to have breakfast with Tank.

Not long after finishing her breakfast, there was a knock on the fire safety door.

“Tank, go open the door,” Nan Muran said as she put away the packaging and took out a medium-sized cardboard box from her space, starting to fill it with things like instant noodles, bread, snail noodles, Nanchang mixed noodles, beef ramen, compressed biscuits, seaweed egg soup, until the box was full.

The young security guard, who was standing outside, froze when he saw Tank open the door.

Tank gave him a quick glance, determined he wasn’t an enemy, and returned inside.

“This is for your reward for last night and this morning,” Nan Muran said, walking out with the box and placing it in front of the security guard.

The young man eagerly hugged the box full of food, his heart racing with excitement. There were several items in there that he had been craving for a long time.

But when Nan Muran said it was a reward for this morning, he became confused.

Nan Muran pointed toward the stairwell, where there were more than a dozen security guard bodies. “The bodies have been there for a while, and they’ll start to smell. Could you help take them out?”

The young guard looked at the fourteen corpses in the stairwell and let out a relieved breath. He nodded eagerly. “Don’t worry, Miss Nan, I’ll take care of it and make sure everything is cleaned up properly.”

“By the way, Miss Nan, I’ll be staying on the 21st floor with Sister Hong from now on. If you need anything, just call me.”

“Does the 21st floor still have owner supplies?” Nan Muran asked.

“Yes, I’ve thought about it. There’s a register for the supplies, and I’ll return them according to each family’s share,” the young guard replied, having already figured out a plan the previous night.

Nan Muran nodded. “That method works.”

Flushed with praise from his idol, the young man scratched his head in embarrassment.

Nan Muran returned to her room, rested for a while to digest her food, and then started a training session with Tank. This had become their favorite way to pass time when they were bored.

Unfortunately, just after a few rounds, there was another knock at the door.

Nan Muran checked her watch—it had been an hour. The security guard should have left by now. Who could it be?

She wiped the sweat from her face with a towel and went to open the door.

“Qing Jie!” Nan Muran had no strong feelings for the Qi family, but Qi Qing was an exception. Seeing her outside, Nan Muran opened the door directly.

However, the sight of Qi Qing caused her heart to tighten.

The usually bright and proud Qi Qing had her hair in disarray, new bruises forming on her face, and her clothes were obviously torn.

The skirt beneath her windbreaker was no longer able to cover her body, and her legs were marked with several scratches and bloodstains.

With one glance, Nan Muran immediately knew what Qi Qing had just endured.

“Ranran, do you have any fever medicine? Qi Li has a high fever. I’ve asked everyone in the building, and they lied to me. I…” Qi Qing’s eyes were no longer bright but filled with pain and struggle.

If this had been before yesterday, Nan Muran would have definitely refused to give Qi Qing medicine, but now, Qi Li’s condition was directly related to whether she could find Si Ye. He couldn’t die now.

“Come in first and change your clothes.” Seeing Qi Qing’s condition, Nan Muran softened her tone.

Qi Qing froze at Nan Muran’s attitude. Along the way, she had been harassed, and every person who looked at her like this called her a vixen or a slut, using filthy language.

Nan Muran was the first person to speak so calmly to her, and it broke Qi Qing’s façade of strength, making her break down in tears. “Ranran.”

“I have fever medicine. Come inside and change your clothes. I’ll get the medicine for you,” Nan Muran said as she continued.

Qi Qing followed Nan Muran inside in a daze.

Nan Muran first went to the bedroom and brought a new set of casual clothes to the living room, handing them to Qi Qing.

At the same time, she gave her iodine, external medicine, a large pack of wet wipes, and a bottle of mineral water. “You can change in the guest room.”

“Ranran,” Qi Qing couldn’t hold back any longer and burst into tears, looking at Nan Muran, who remained calm.
