Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains
Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 34: The Appearance of Si Ye

One person and one dog quickly circled out of the building and onto the outside platform. Nan Muran, not caring about the potential consequences, directly summoned a speedboat from her spatial ring.

The speedboat rushed straight towards the apartment, taking less than three minutes. Suddenly, the small device on her wrist, Xiao Liu, reminded Nan Muran that the other party, accompanied by Qi Li, was heading in their direction.

After thinking for a moment, Nan Muran changed direction, heading west until reaching the old main road, then hiding inside an abandoned building by the roadside. She waited for more than ten minutes before a speedboat sped by.

To avoid being noticed, Nan Muran waited for another three minutes before setting off.

With Xiao Liu’s guidance, she and the dog followed the trail all the way to the foot of the Southern Mountain.

The group they were following eventually entered the Cui Mountain in the southern part of the West City’s southern mountain range. The main peak stood at an elevation of 2604 meters, directly across from the Nanshan Yunyu Villa District, where the military would later establish a secure base.

Fortunately, in the past, Nan Muran had often climbed the southern mountains for landscape painting, so she could roughly judge her position based on the unique features of the various mountains.

Seeing the speedboat hidden in the trees nearby, Nan Muran confirmed that they had entered the mountains.

She and the dog began following the tracks left behind, eventually reaching the mid-mountain area.

For Nan Muran, who possessed plant-based abilities, the jungle was her domain. Moreover, with the level-seven mutated Xiao Liu by her side, she wasn’t worried, even though she knew the group ahead was a complete mercenary team.

Suddenly, Xiao Liu on her wrist moved slightly. Nan Muran paused, then quickly dropped to the ground, rolling swiftly behind a large tree.

At the same moment, the trees and ground at her previous position were hit by sniper fire.

“Damn you, Qi Li,” Nan Muran fumed silently, though she made no sound.

In the jungle, especially with her distance from them, they shouldn’t have noticed her so quickly. The only explanation was that Qi Li, that scoundrel, had betrayed her, intending to use these mercenaries to kill her and eliminate any future threats.

After the two missed shots from the sniper, there was evident surprise on their faces as they looked at Qi Li with a cold gaze. “You just told us she was an ordinary girl?”

The sniper’s reaction, alertness, and skill were no less than their own. How could she be considered “ordinary”?

Qi Li was also surprised at Nan Muran’s exceptional agility.

But once he made a decision, there was no turning back. Otherwise, his life was as good as over. “No matter who she is or how strong she is, your job is to kill her.”

“Killing is a business, Doctor Qi. What are you offering us for payment?” the mercenary team leader asked, his eyes full of meaning.

Qi Li looked at the dark-skinned leader of the mercenaries. “You should know the purpose of Dr. Jin’s underground laboratory. I’m his first assistant, and once his research succeeds, I’ll be the first to get the experimental results.”

“Deal. If you want to live, remember your promise today.” These mercenaries had always been interested in Dr. Jin’s gene-altering drugs, so they had no reason to reject Qi Li’s deal.

After negotiating with Qi Li, the leader signaled his team to split up and move out, determined to kill the girl who was following them.

On the other side of the jungle, four figures, dressed in camouflage and heavily armed, were taking shelter from the rain in a windbreak.

Recently, their team had suffered two casualties in an emergency rescue mission, and their morale had been low.

“Captain, that’s the sound of a sniper rifle,” said the boy with a baby face, his expression changing.

The other man, Si Ye, who stood at 1.9 meters tall with broad shoulders and a narrow waist, and whose appearance was as handsome as a top celebrity, also heard the gunshots. He stood up and listened towards the direction of the shots. “Can you tell what kind of gun it is?”

“It’s not ours. It’s foreign military weaponry,” Wang Qiang replied solemnly.

“These bastards are getting bolder. Captain, should we check it out?” Dong Zi said, looking grim.

Suddenly, another familiar gunshot rang out.

“That’s our own people,” Gang Zi said, his face changing color upon hearing the sound.

Without needing further communication, the four quickly readied their gear and sprinted towards the direction of the gunfire. Despite the dense jungle and the drizzling rain, their speed wasn’t slowed.

“Gang Zi, Dong Zi, prepare for a flanking attack. Eagle, cover the rear,” Si Ye commanded urgently as his speed increased.

“Yes, sir.”

The four figures, darting through the jungle like swift leopards, made their way toward the battlefield.

Meanwhile, Nan Muran took out the most stable domestic sniper rifle from her space and fired at the sniper point she had previously identified. It was clear that someone on the opposing side was injured.

“FK!” the injured sniper cursed, clearly surprised that the other side would retaliate in this situation.

The mercenary team leader watched his injured comrade, his expression not much better. He even suspected that the other side might be military personnel from Z Country, known to be the toughest opponents. “Doctor Qi, you’ve gotten us into trouble.”

The shot fired by the other side was not something an untrained ordinary soldier could achieve, let alone an ordinary girl.

Because of the injury to his comrade, the mercenary team leader now harbored murderous intent and began commanding his men to move in closer.

After several shots from Nan Muran, she had injured two of the enemy, but her presence was now revealed.

After being shot at twice and narrowly avoiding being hit, Nan Muran knew clearly that if she relied on herself, she had no chance of winning today.

If Xiao Liu intervened, it would cause quite a commotion, and no one within 200 to 300 meters could see it.

“Little master,” Xiao Liu’s voice echoed in her mind, “there’s more to this chapter. Please click the next page to continue reading. The next part is even more exciting!”

Fortunately, they were deep in the mountains. As long as she dealt with these people without leaving any survivors, she wouldn’t have to worry about anything else. Once she made up her mind, she didn’t hesitate to extend her left hand and open it towards the ground.

The small device on her wrist, Xiao Liu, began to emit a faint green glow, transforming into countless willow branches that slithered across the ground like snakes, rapidly moving forward. The willow branches spread across the entire battlefield where Nan Muran and her enemies were.

Si Ye, Wang Gang, Chen Dong, and Eagle stopped about 300 meters from the battlefield. The first thing they did was hold their weapons in position.

“Hide,” Si Ye ordered without hesitation after seeing what the scope revealed.

The four quickly concealed themselves in the nearest spot. After hiding, they all simultaneously raised their guns and observed through the scopes.

Seeing the scene from afar, they were stunned. The things wriggling on the ground weren’t animals, but willow branches?

On the other side, Xiao Liu’s willow branches stretched out frantically until they reached each mercenary on the opposing side. The branches wrapped around their legs and began to climb upwards, attempting to separate and imprison everyone.

The mercenaries, used to fighting for their lives, naturally wouldn’t surrender without a fight. They first used handguns, but when that didn’t work, they began slashing with knives.

But the willow branches seemed to feel no pain, breaking, regenerating, and then coiling upward again. This process repeated faster and faster until the mercenaries had no strength left to resist.

Finally, the sharp ends of the willow branches pierced through the necks of six mercenaries, ending the battle. Their bodies were tossed aside, and in an eerie manner, they were dragged into the earth, leaving no trace of their existence.

Qi Li was then dragged violently, terrified out of his wits, until he was brought in front of Nan Muran.

His fearful screams pierced through the rain-soaked jungle, sending chills down the spines of those who heard it.

At this moment, Nan Muran was surrounded by a faint green light. Her originally curled hair now flowed out in green strands, floating in the wind, making her look like a spirit of the mountain.
