Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 35: Scaring Off Si Ye

“Ghost…!” Qi Li looked at the eerie scene in front of him, screaming wildly in fear.

Nan Muran took one step after another toward him, her eyes filled with intense killing intent. “I told you, don’t try anything funny, or I’ll take your life.”

“Ranran, don’t kill me, please, don’t kill me…” Qi Li twisted his body wildly, trying to free himself from his restraints.

In just three days, he had clearly felt death closing in on him for the second time. And this time, he had no bargaining chips left.

“Do you really think that, at this point, I would let you go?” Nan Muran’s tone was colder than ever. The willow branches in her hand shimmered with a green light, swaying gently like seaweed in water.

Two hundred meters away, Si Ye held a pair of binoculars, reading Nan Muran’s every word through lip reading.

He turned his head, his three companions watching the scene through scopes, savoring it with great interest.

The scene in front of them was certainly shocking, but these three were incredibly bold as well.

He couldn’t guess what kind of existence that girl was. But clearly, she wouldn’t allow anyone to know her secrets.

Once they knew about the presence of the four of them, she would likely deal with them the same way she did with the mercenaries—leaving no bodies behind.

Si Ye patted Wang Gang, who was nearest to him, signaling with his hand that it was dangerous ahead and they should retreat immediately.

The four of them began to retreat in perfect unison, gradually moving backward for nearly three hundred meters before, without a word, they turned and fled.

That girl was too terrifying.

Even when facing a fully armed international mercenary team of six, they still had some hesitation, but in less than five minutes, she had disposed of all the bodies without a trace.

With that kind of fighting power, even if the four of them went up, they wouldn’t stand a chance. So, running away was the best choice.

Little Liu, completely focused on absorbing the bodies dragged underground by the willow branches, was unaware of the four lurking in the distance.

“I gave you a chance,” Nan Muran said, her tone chilling as she looked at Qi Li.

“You want to find Dr. Jin’s underground laboratory, right? I know where it is, I’ll take you there. It’s not far, it’s in this mountain,” Qi Li looked at her, his body limp.

Nan Muran sneered. “As long as I know the lab is in the mountain, I can find it myself. No need for your help.”

Without giving him another chance to speak, the sharp end of the willow branch swiftly pierced his heart. Afterward, she disposed of his body just as she had done with the six mercenaries.

“What?” After finishing with Qi Li’s body, Nan Muran’s face changed drastically upon hearing a prompt from Little Liu.

She couldn’t imagine the trouble that would come if anyone saw her act so crazily.

“Little Liu, find them,” Nan Muran immediately pulled out a mountain bike from her storage space and began racing through the mountain on it.

Meanwhile, Si Ye, who had already run over a thousand meters, looked around at the surrounding plants, lost in thought. “Is there a river nearby?”

“Yes, it’s not far,” replied the live map eagle quickly.

“Everyone, head for the river, avoid the plants as much as possible,” Si Ye thought to himself that the girl he had just seen might be some kind of plant spirit from the mountain.

Since she could control plants to kill, she could probably track them through the plants. To avoid being tracked, the first thing they had to do was avoid all plants.

Achieving this in the densely vegetated mountain would be difficult, unless they used a river with a wider surface.

After finding the river, the four of them followed the water, eventually plunging into a deep pool beneath a waterfall, then continuing along the increasingly wide river to escape.

Following Little Liu’s guidance, Nan Muran reached the riverbank and couldn’t help but frown. “They went into the river? How did these four think of hiding from the plants?”

Nearby, Tank gave an unhappy grunt. “Is it possible they’re trying to hide from us?”

“Raining, little brother, what scent do you think you’re using to track them?” Nan Muran looked at Tank helplessly.

Little Liu told Nan Muran that the plants had said the four were soldiers in camouflage, running as fast as leopards.

Nan Muran understood that once they started avoiding the plants, she wouldn’t be able to track them anymore.

However, she wasn’t too worried. After all, this was a chance encounter. They didn’t know each other, and they might never meet again. If it was someone who knew her, that would be a real problem.

“Alright, let’s go home.”

Nan Muran and Tank rode the motorcycle down the mountain, then took a speedboat back to the apartment.

There were only about ten days left until the second acid rain, and to avoid encountering the following wave of corpse tides in the city, Nan Muran couldn’t wait in the top-floor apartment for the acid rain.

So she planned to go back to the apartment, take care of the Nan family, then return to the mountain villa.

As soon as she entered the apartment, Nan Muran heard the voice of a gossiping aunt.

“The rich lady from the Qi family on the thirteenth floor cried all afternoon today. She said her son was taken by some laboratory, and after that, her daughter stole all the food from the house and disappeared.”

Hearing this, Nan Muran froze. Qi Qing left?

She must have figured out the intentions of the Qi family. Leaving was a decisive move, still the same Qi Qing that Nan Muran remembered, resolute and decisive.

But the gossipers, who had been happily chatting, were startled when they saw Nan Muran and ran upstairs, each heading to their own homes.

Nan Muran couldn’t help but feel helpless. Was it really necessary to be this scared?

So when she heard more gossip, she wisely sidestepped.

It turned out the little security guard had returned food to all the apartment owners except the Nan family.

The Nan family went to the twenty-first floor and caused a huge scene, but because the little security guard had returned the food, they had no choice but to ask other residents. In such a situation, who would give away the food they had just received? They weren’t fools.

The Nan family understood but was unwilling, so they went back to the twenty-first floor to cause more trouble.

Out of desperation, the little security guard firmly told all the residents that Nan Muting had almost come to the twenty-first floor every day, and had taken everyone’s supplies from them.

For a moment, the Nan family’s failed theft turned them into the most hated people in the building.

As Nan Muran walked past the twelfth floor, she heard strange sounds from inside and froze.

Then she saw that the elderly Nan matriarch had crawled up to the staircase.

When the matriarch saw Nan Muran standing not far away, she burst into tears, but despite trying several times, no sound came out.

Behind her, Nan Muting’s voice sounded: “What do you think? If we don’t eat her, what should we do? The whole family is waiting to starve to death.” The sound of knives grinding followed.

“Have you not noticed that the security guards outside are missing? Do you think we’re the only ones eating people?” Nan Muting’s voice sounded displeased.

Then she complained somewhat aggrieved: “Today, the nineteenth floor came by, bothering both me and my brother. In the end, they only gave us two packs of instant noodles. How could that possibly feed the whole family?”

Nan Muran finally understood why the Nan matriarch had struggled to crawl out—it was to be eaten by her own beloved grandchildren to fill their stomachs.
