Apocalypse: Living the Good Life Deep in the Mountains Chapter 79: Finding Something Good

Inside the house, Han Yingtian was fighting off a dark-skinned man who had charged at him. While doing so, he anxiously called out to the smaller man beside him, “Fifteen, go out and rescue the others.”

Fifteen had the speed ability and came from a special forces team.

He was one of the three people who had not touched the food earlier, and he had seen those who were dragged out.

Fifteen couldn’t help but frown. He thought to himself, “Miss Nan was right, they really are a bunch of idiots.”

While the battle outside the courtyard was chaotic, inside the house, Nan Muran and her group had already started to occupy different corners of the room, wrapping themselves in thick blankets to sleep.

In the center of the room, there was a stove for warmth.

Si Ye looked at the sleeping Nan Muran and gently pushed the stove closer to her.

The eagle, who was on night watch, smiled silently at his action, while Jia Wu, who was beside him, hadn’t fallen asleep either.

“The battle outside has started,” Jia Wu spoke.

Upon hearing him, the three exchanged smiles.

“Han Yingtian isn’t a complete fool,” the eagle muttered quietly, careful not to disturb Nan Muran.

Si Ye was uninterested in responding.

Though the team Han Yingtian led had never won against the Alpha Wolf team, it was still considered strong and competent, not terribly weak.

“How can a group of ability users take so long to deal with a bunch of insignificant people?” The eagle complained.

Si Ye, however, was not surprised: “Have you considered that there are ability users in this town too?”

There hadn’t been any zombies in the town so far, and even before they entered the town, they hadn’t seen a single zombie wandering around. Given the current situation with zombies mutating everywhere, it was clear that some ability users had dealt with these zombies.

“Oh, impressive,” the eagle said, realizing his mistake right after speaking. He looked at Si Ye with more curiosity.

Jia Wu laughed, “We’ll go, Si Ye, you stay with Muran.”

“I just saw the town chief come out of the room at the far corner. If they really know about collecting mutated cores, it’s most likely in his hands.” Si Ye spoke while casually sketching the layout of the courtyard on the ground.

He was pointing out their positions.

The eagle glanced at Jia Wu, “Don’t worry, we’ll handle it.”

After that, the two quickly climbed out through the window at the back of the house. Si Ye leaned against the wall, listening to the chaos outside, while glancing at the peacefully sleeping Nan Muran.

Under the gently flickering stove, the girl’s pale face was bathed in warm, reddish light, making it hard for him to look away.

Since meeting Nan Muran, she had always been a contradictory person.

She was decisive in killing, yet she would sometimes show kindness. She clearly wanted to hide away in a safe place like the villa on the hill, yet time and again, her obsession pushed her forward.

He couldn’t help but smile. It didn’t matter; they wouldn’t be separating in the future. He could accompany her in doing the things she truly wanted to do.

Inside, the room was as warm as spring, a scene of tranquility.

Outside the house, Han Yingtian looked grimly at the captured military ability users.

They had killed over thirty people, but the five enemy ability users were unscathed.

They hadn’t even managed to stop the others from dragging two girls and an older man into the corner room.

“I’m telling you, if you don’t want these three to be in trouble, leave the courtyard immediately.” The town chief, along with the five ability users and three men from the military ability team, retreated to a corner of the house.

The girl with braids looked weak, her face covered with tears as they streamed down like broken pearls.

The dark-skinned man, looking at her, became interested: “Not bad, boss, she’s quite attractive.”

As he spoke, one rough, dark hand squeezed her cheek, while the other groped her chest. His gaze turned lecherous and eager because of her voluptuous figure.

Without hesitation, the town chief slapped the back of the dark-skinned man’s head. “Damn it, what time is it, and you’re still thinking with your dirty mind?”

The dark-skinned man hurriedly stood up and moved to the window, his intentions now lost.

The braids girl, finally relaxing, began to sob uncontrollably.

Just then, Jia Wu and the eagle, who had found a big bag of treasures, were climbing out of the window just before the town chief and his men entered the room.

They naturally saw the situation with the two girls and the middle-aged man.

But considering the brainpower of the three captives, the two of them didn’t hesitate to return to their own room. After all, if they intervened, it would just cause unnecessary trouble.

Inside the room, after opening the bag, the three of them stared wide-eyed.

“Where did they get this from? Is this a mutated fruit?” Jia Wu held a black-red fruit.

Si Ye looked at the fruit. “This isn’t the fruit from the five trees the military gave us.”

“Let’s bring the town chief out and ask him,” the eagle quickly suggested.

Jia Wu agreed, as the fruit was clearly more valuable than the military’s.

Si Ye nodded. “Keep an eye on things, just make sure Han Yingtian doesn’t kill anyone.”

Outside, Han Yingtian, even though he couldn’t kill anyone, was completely powerless against the few inside.

They had to wait for the military ability team’s visual abilities to recover.

Once recovered, Han Yingtian instantly grasped the positions of everyone inside the room.

The moment the town chief ordered his people to retreat, the military ability team outside took action.

The ability user with wall-passing skills quickly entered the house. At the same time, wind and ice abilities were unleashed, targeting the ability users inside.

Facing the attack of thirteen ability users, the three inside had little chance of survival.

“Where’s the town chief?” the first to enter, Fifteen, asked, looking at the bodies strewn across the ground, confused.

At the same time, the town chief, who thought he had successfully escaped, was startled when two men suddenly appeared in front of him, causing him to panic.

“Don’t be afraid, tell us, do you want to die or live?” The eagle spoke playfully, looking at the trembling town chief.

The town chief frantically nodded, his voice desperate, “Live, I want to live.”

The eagle nodded and handed him the black-red fruit. “Tell us, where did this come from?”

A flash of astonishment appeared in the town chief’s eyes. Did they find the fruit hidden under his bed?

How did they track him down? They were like rats.

At the same time, Jia Wu quickly covered the town chief’s mouth and stabbed a dagger into his right palm. “Answer quickly, no tricks.”

The pain made the town chief moan, his face turning pale as he nodded repeatedly.

“Where did it come from?” The eagle continued.

Jia Wu then let go of the town chief’s mouth.

“Back mountain.”

“Specific location?”

“Go east from the back mountain following the stream,” the town chief answered quickly.

The eagle stared at him. “You’ll come with us. Right now.”

The town chief’s face changed drastically, and he began shaking his head frantically. “That place is dangerous, there’s a giant snake.”

Jia Wu’s dagger pierced his other hand. “Tell us the location honestly.”

“Follow the stream west from the back mountain, ten kilometers south,” the town chief answered, his voice full of tears.

Unfortunately, before his words could fade, the dagger pierced his neck, severing the artery.

Then, two figures disappeared quickly into the night.
