Chapter 39: Contract
Wang’s pupils constricted, wanting to point at Xie Yunzhao but too scared to do so. “You… you’re bullying me!” Wasn’t this just being a rogue?
The manager San was stunned; not only had he shocked Wang, but he was also bewildered himself. He had never done business like this!
Xie Yunzhao nodded fiercely. “Wang, you really understand the situation well. That’s right.”
Wang almost fainted, and the small clerk behind him quickly supported him.
“You want to use your power to bully me? Aren’t you afraid I’ll report you?”
“Not afraid, go ahead.”
Everyone in the room was shocked. How audacious!
Xie Yunzhao bent down, pulled a short knife from his boot, unsheathed it, and blew on the tip.
Swish—he plunged it into the table, piercing through!
“Let’s see if you’ll have a life to go report me.”
The accountants in the back were so terrified they fell to the ground, trembling as they pointed at the knife’s tip, their mouths moving but unable to make a sound.
They had never seen such a scene before.
Not to mention Wang, even the manager San nearly knelt in fear.
The small clerk was desperately holding Wang, secretly pinching his waist. “Sir~” Though the man was dead-set against revealing, he couldn’t let it show.
Wang understood. Dying wouldn’t change anything; this man wouldn’t stand up for him!
He thought he was just negotiating with a big shot, but now he was risking his life. How could he possibly confront the Duke of Lu’s Mansion for himself?
Seeing Wang slowly sit down, Xie Yunzhao waved his hand behind him. “Third manager, go prepare the contract.”
The manager San ran away as if escaping. What about the Junzhu? The knife was still sticking in the table; what should they do?
Shen Shurong was stunned when she heard 200 wen and laughed softly when she learned about Xie Yunzhao’s negotiation process.
It was normal for negotiations to be difficult; if they couldn’t reach an agreement this time, they could try again, change the terms, and leverage new cards—they would surely find a breakthrough.
But her man went straight to the point.
The manager San was stunned again. Was that expression from the Junzhu… indulgent? Proud?
“Add another 50 wen, but the payment will only be made after the goods are verified to be fine.”
“Yes, Junzhu.” The manager San wiped the sweat from his forehead. This was good enough; he really didn’t know how the goods could be better than coarse cloth at 200 wen.
The manager San hurried back and conveyed Shen Shurong’s meaning. They were about to sign the contract, so there was no need to hide her identity any longer.
Xie Yunzhao stood up, and just that one movement made everyone in the room instinctively lean back, including his own people.
He walked over to Wang, grabbed him by the collar, and lifted him up. “The extra 50 wen is out of the Junzhu’s kindness, so remember to be grateful!”
“Of course, of course, I’m grateful to the Junzhu, especially grateful.”
Although Wang wasn’t tall, he was heavy enough to be lifted easily, and he was scared to the point of nearly losing control.
Xie Yunzhao’s eyes were cold. “But you must sign the contract under your shop’s name. If you dare to cheat even a single wen, I’ll go after your son, your grandson, your entire family for an explanation!”
“If you want to sue me, the Duke of Lu’s Mansion will always welcome you. It’s just a matter of whether you dare to go!”
Letting go of his grip, Wang fell back into his chair, scared out of his wits.
The manager San quickly pulled him aside to sit down. “Second Master, please take a seat. We’ll sign the contract right away.”
He rushed to the table, looking at the already stunned Wang, forcing a friendly and gentle smile, and asked softly, “Wang, shall we prepare the contract now?”
“Yes, yes, let’s sign!” Wang was so scared he barely managed to respond.
The small clerk supported his shaking hand; offending that person was truly terrifying!
Wang was also scared; better to hide from danger when possible. The two accountants quickly started calculating, and the contract was soon prepared.
Xie Yunzhao pulled the knife from the table and placed it back in its sheath. Just as he was about to leave, Wang stopped him.
With a cold gaze, Wang trembled all over. “This sir, may I ask how to address you? If it’s…”
Xie Yunzhao approached Wang. “Are you afraid of trouble?”
“Yes.”
“Who would dare to make trouble with the Duke of Lu’s son? Let them come find me.”
“Thank you, Young Master.”
“Don’t mention it. From now on, you are the Junzhu’s person. She is my fiancée, and I will take care of her.”
“Yes, I understand. I will definitely be grateful to the Junzhu.” Wang smiled broadly, nodding and bowing.
Xie Yunzhao patted his shoulder. “Stop shaking. I’m leaving now.”
After sending away this pest, Wang almost cried. “Brother, what kind of husband has your Junzhu found! Boohoo—”
The manager San didn’t know whether to laugh or cry. People were quite fond of the Junzhu, but the way they did business was a bit unusual. “Don’t let him hear you.”
Wang glanced at the shadow outside the door, covering his mouth tightly, then quickly relaxed. “Hahaha, the Junzhu should find a husband like this; she’s really lucky.”
Wang stared at the door. “The Junzhu is kind, and the Young Master… in short, the Junzhu and Young Master Xie are a match made in heaven.”
Once the shadow outside disappeared, Wang patted his chest. He was quick to react, but he felt like he had provoked the King of Hell.
The manager San looked at him and suddenly wanted to laugh. He deserved it; he had brought this upon himself.
No matter how they felt about their son-in-law, the deal had been successfully negotiated.
Leaving the manager San and the accountants behind, Shen Shurong took Xie Yunzhao and said, “I don’t want to take the carriage; let’s walk.”
Xie Yunzhao had someone fetch an umbrella. “Alright.”
Shen Shurong smiled; the air felt sweet.
The two shared an umbrella, standing very close together. The sound of their clothes brushing against each other was particularly delightful to the ears of those around them.
Every time Xie Yunzhao looked down, he could see Shen Shurong’s lips slightly raised. When she was happy, he felt an extra sense of satisfaction.
It had always been this way.
Four years ago, when the Duke of Lu’s Mansion was offering a title, he knew he couldn’t compete with Xie Yunzheng and let it go, sparing his father from sighing when he looked at him.
But when he learned he was about to lose Rongrong, he realized that the title was not just about the Duke’s Mansion; it related to Rongrong’s marriage.
He couldn’t allow it, wouldn’t allow it. He rushed to suppress the thoughts that she wouldn’t look at someone worthless like him.
He understood that he was no longer worthy of her long ago.
But how could the deep-rooted love just be stopped when he wanted?
He missed her crazily, wanted to see her, even if it was just a distant glance, even if they sat across a screen at a banquet!
He had even hoped for a wedding date that didn’t belong to him, just so that she could come over, and he could see her more often.
Even if she would be his sister-in-law, her little brother would count as her family, right? They would exist in another kind of bond.
Sharing the same carriage.
Holding the same paper umbrella.
Meeting every day, embracing, relying on each other, and even… she would kiss him.
These were all beautiful scenes that had originally appeared in his dreams, and now they were gradually coming true. How could he bear to see her sad?
They walked into a jewelry shop, and Shen Shurong went in to order a pair of new jade pendants.
The shopkeeper praised them as soon as they entered, saying that two celestial beings had arrived, making the shop shine.
Indeed, all the gold, silver, and jade seemed to dull the moment they walked in.
The shopkeeper presented the dragon and phoenix jade pendants, “Junzhu, this is what you ordered.” It was the most expensive.
Shen Shurong took it and personally tied it around the man beside her.
Xie Yunzhao couldn’t suppress the smile on his lips but didn’t want her to spend too much. “Shopkeeper, charge it to the Duke of Lu’s Mansion.”
