Chapter 11: The Banquet!
Qian Man slightly bent over and looked at Yao Yao, asking, “Yao Yao, if your mother fell into the sea, what would you do for her?”
Yao Yao furrowed her brows, instinctively biting her finger while thinking.
A sudden lightbulb moment, she responded loudly and clearly, “Eat at the banquet!”
The word “eat at the banquet” made everyone burst into laughter.
Her childish words highlighted her innocence, but Yao Yao just bit her finger, not understanding what they were laughing about.
Yi Xia laughed so hard that the corners of her eyes crinkled, but when she saw Chen Xingjun quietly sitting there, her smile faded slightly.
“Yao Yao is really lively, I don’t know how you raised her, but she’s adorable. If my son had even a tenth of her personality, that would be great.”
Yue Su didn’t respond, not knowing how to reply.
A child’s personality is deeply tied to their family environment.
Although she was adopted by the Yue family, Yue Qiongsheng and Mei Zhen treated her like a treasure.
Even after they had Yue Lan, they never neglected her.
She didn’t grow up in a wealthy family, but she was surrounded by love.
Had it not been for her father’s support, she might not have been able to overcome those things from a few years ago.
Yao Yao was her child, and her grandparents spoiled her without limits.
Shen Junzai glanced at Yue Su and mocked, “Your daughter is much cuter than you.”
[I’ve noticed that President Shen can be quite mean. Yue Su doesn’t seem to want to bother with him.]
[Same here, it’s always him who starts teasing Yue Su.]
[I’m afraid that one day he might get upset and cry after being scolded by Yue Su.]
Yue Su turned her head and stared at Shen Junzai silently.
Shen Junzai wasn’t just wealthy; he also had a handsome appearance, like a handsome young man.
But that wasn’t Yue Su’s type.
After being stared at for a while, even Shen Junzai, with his thick skin, had to look away.
“Why are you looking at me like that?”
Yue Su spoke in a calm tone, “President Shen, I have a question for you.”
“What question?” he said, subtly straightening his back.
Yue Su asked, “Do you think it’s feminine for men to wear skirts?”
Shen Junzai’s mind spun a few times, and not seeing any traps in the question, he nodded.
“Yes, it is.”
Yue Su smiled, “Oh, good boy.”
Shen Junzai realized he’d stepped into a trap, his face turning a deep shade of red.
“You!”
Yue Su didn’t bother with him further, returning her attention to Qian Man.
At this moment, Qian Man continued to ask, “Children, what do you think is your greatest regret?”
Yuan Ji Lin didn’t answer but looked eagerly at Yao Yao.
Yao Yao, thinking she was the first to answer, said, “I’ve never eaten at the banquet.”
Yuan Jin laughed out loud, “This child is so fixated on eating at the banquet.”
Yue Su: “…”
Qian Man cleared his throat, holding back his laughter, and asked again, “What do you hope for most?”
Yao Yao: “I want to eat…”
“Not allowed to say eat at the banquet again!” Yue Su quickly interrupted, causing another round of laughter.
Yao Yao blinked, lowering her head slightly, her finger rubbing her chin as she thought.
“Then… I want to have grandparents, is that okay?”
Yuan Ji Lin was surprised, “Don’t you have grandparents?”
Yao Yao shook her head, “No, I don’t. I don’t have a father either.”
Ran Chenbi asked, “Where’s your dad?”
Nao Nao waved her hand, “Don’t talk about it, Yao Yao’s dad passed away.”
Yuan Ji Lin didn’t understand, “Then why do you want grandparents, not a father?”
Yao Yao: “If I had grandparents, I could eat at the banquet twice.”
[Hahaha, this perspective is so unique!]
[Yao Yao: I can tell the difference between eating once and eating twice.]
[Next question, what kind of color bag does Yao Yao like? I’ll go buy one!]
Yuan Ji Lin blurted out: “Wait, didn’t you ever eat at your dad’s banquet?”
Yao Yao spread her little hands, “No, my dad passed away six years ago, and I’m only three.”
“…”
[That one line just fried my CPU.]
[Quick question, who do you think Yao Yao’s dad could be?]
[It can’t be President Fu, right?]
[People with some sense would never say that. When did President Fu and Yue Su ever get together?]
[A few years ago, Yue Su tried to fake an accident, and now she has a daughter and is still faking it. She’s a professional at this.]
[Who in their right mind would ask this question? Don’t you think Jiang Xin looks a lot like President Fu?]
Shen Junzai laughed, mocking, “I bet with so many special guests, Yue Su doesn’t even know who her child’s father is.”
Yi Xia frowned slightly. That was going too far.
Yue Su, however, chuckled lightly, “Not like President Shen, who’s so virtuous. Everyone knows you’re the perfect husband, loving your wife and her family, and you even carry a photo of your sister-in-law in your pocket.”
She raised her hand, holding a photo, and lifted it to admire.
It was a close-up shot, with a fresh kiss mark visible on the back.
Shen Junzai, furious and embarrassed, reached out to snatch it.
“Give that back! You’re a public figure, stop doing these sneaky things!”
Yue Su dodged the photo, her hand behind her back as she stared coldly at him.
“What’s wrong with sneaky things? It’s better than some people sneaking around with others.”
Taking advantage of his approach, she muted the microphone and whispered, “President Shen, I have many such photos, do you want to see them?”
Shen Junzai quickly muted his mic, glaring at her with a dark expression.
“You dare investigate me? Yue Su, are you taking my kindness for granted?”
Yue Su sneered, “I gave you face, didn’t I? I know you came on this show just to disgust me. I’m no longer in the entertainment industry. There’s no harm in tearing the mask off. The fish may not die, but the net will break. Don’t believe me? Try it.”
Shen Junzai cared deeply about his public image.
He had worked hard to build his reputation, and if it collapsed, the backlash would be severe.
His anger surged in his chest, so intense it felt like his bones were being crushed, but he still had to lower his head.
He chuckled bitterly and turned his mic back on.
“Sorry, I misspoke. I apologize.”
Yue Su shoved the photo back into his hand, smiling but saying nothing.
Only Shen Junzai knew how much contempt was hidden behind her smile.
[President Shen has a photo of his sister-in-law? Seriously?]
[It’s so frustrating, why did he mute the mic?]
[Shen Junzai is known for being virtuous, so Yue Su must be trying to smear him. This isn’t the first time she’s done this.]
[Honestly, I don’t believe President Shen would cheat. I follow his wife’s Weibo, and their relationship is solid.]
[But what about the photo situation?]
Though Shen Junzai didn’t check his phone, he could guess what people were saying in the live chat.
He smiled and explained, “Last time my wife and I went shopping with my sister-in-law. She and my wife took a close-up photo, and I guess it fell into my pocket then.”
Yi Xia smiled and nodded, “It seems like your wife really cares for this sister-in-law.”
Shen Junzai laughed, “Sisterly love runs deep. She’s the youngest, so everyone pampers her.”
What he didn’t know was that the “deep affection” between the two sisters had already turned into a serious family conflict.
“I kindly brought you into our home, and you’re hooking up with your brother-in-law! Lu Qing, do you have no shame?”
Lu Ying, seething with anger, couldn’t help but feel like she had married a good man only to have others covet him. She was constantly on guard against other women.
But no matter how vigilant she was, she couldn’t prevent the “family thief.”
Lu Qing was slapped several times by her, but didn’t dare to retaliate.
“Sis, I didn’t seduce him. It’s my brother-in-law…”
Lu Ying scoffed, “Your brother-in-law is so outstanding, how could he be interested in you? You must be self-deprecating! And that Yue Su, she’s no good either.”
“Pack up and leave. Don’t come back here again.”
After throwing Lu Qing out, Lu Ying took out her phone to post a message.
Shen’s wife Lu Ying: [I’ve been married to my husband for ten years, and I know him better than anyone. Some people have ulterior motives, trying to smear us with their old tricks. Didn’t succeed in seducing him, so now they’re slandering us.]
Before marrying Shen Junzai, Lu Ying was also an actress.
She retired after marriage, but still had millions of followers on Weibo. Her fans loved to see her posts about her married life.
This post didn’t directly mention Yue Su, but everyone knew she was talking about her.
When Yue Su accused Shen Junzai of using unspoken rules, the evidence wasn’t enough, and the matter was pushed aside. Lu Ying had strongly supported Shen Junzai, attacking Yue Su in the process.
Shen Junzai’s image was carefully crafted, and Lu Ying played a big role in that.
Jiang Wanting was scrolling on her phone, watching Lu Ying’s post blow up, and soon someone started digging into Yue Su’s past.
She pretended to have accidentally liked the post, then immediately canceled it.
But that small action was captured, and it quickly sent Lu Ying’s post to trending.
Just as she exited Weibo, she received a message from Xiao Mo.
Xiao Mo: 【[Screenshot][Screenshot] Tong Ge wants you to pay attention to Xin Xin’s comments.】
Xiao Mo: 【Tong Ge already had someone delete Xin Xin’s video, so the heat has been suppressed. Be careful in the future.】
Jiang Xin had played several adorable roles, and with Jiang Wanting’s support, she had gained millions of followers on Weibo.
Her public image was good, but if her reputation were ruined because of this show, it would be a huge loss.
Jiang Wanting’s expression darkened as she looked at Yao Yao.
She knew Jiang Xin’s personality all too well.
Accustomed to being in the spotlight, she couldn’t stand her shine being stolen by someone else.
Ultimately, Yao Yao had stolen her limelight, which triggered the competitive spirit in the child.
But this might not be a bad thing.
