Chapter 16: Partnering Up

Before Fu Xijin could speak, Naonao shouted first: “I want to video call my mom! Jiang Aunty, show me!”

Jiang Wanti smiled and patted her on the head.

“Naonao, go with your uncle. Your mom said she misses you.”

Yue Su’s hand barely touched the wood; she applied a bit of force, and it didn’t move a bit.

She looked up at Fu Xijin. “Mr. Fu, let go.”

Fu Xijin didn’t look back. “Naonao, eat first, then we’ll talk.”

He said this and dragged the wood forward.

Just then, Yuan Jin called out to them: “Yue Su, Mr. Fu, it’s time to eat.”

Shen Junzai and the others didn’t join in, so they could only watch from the side.

But the smell of the fried fish was so overpowering that it drilled straight into their noses.

Shen Mizhen looked down at the bread in his hand. He had already eaten two pieces and still didn’t feel full.

He looked up at Shen Junzai, hoping he would take him to eat some fish.

Except for them, Jiang Wanti didn’t join either.

However, since she wasn’t joining, Yuan Chenbi didn’t dare to either. He stayed by himself, shrinking in place.

Once they sat down, he looked back.

He waved his hand. “Big Brother, come eat!”

Yuan Chenbi’s face lit up as he smiled foolishly.

“Can I eat too?”

Yao Yao quickly responded, “Of course! It’s more fun when everyone eats together!”

Yuan Chenbi stood up, but then suddenly realized that Jiang Wanti was still sitting beside him. He hesitated for a moment.

He didn’t want to leave her alone but didn’t dare to ask Yao Yao if Jiang Wanti could eat a little too.

【Wuwuwu, our Ti Ti has nothing to eat. They are too selfish.】

【No one calls Ti Ti, not even Fu Xijin? What a scumbag!】

【Some people need to shut up. Didn’t Jiang Wanti say she wasn’t eating?】

【Exactly, she’s openly targeting Yue Su, yet still wants to eat the fish Yue Su made?】

【Please, it’s understandable that Ti Ti doesn’t like her. Which proper wife doesn’t hate the mistress?】

Yue Su seemed to understand Yuan Chenbi’s thoughts and smiled, speaking up: “Teacher Jiang, you and the two kids should come and eat a little. There’s plenty.”

Jiang Wanti didn’t feel like Yue Su was offering a helping hand but rather felt insulted.

What qualifications did Yue Su have to show off in front of her?

“No need, Chenbi and Xin Xin can eat, I’m not hungry.”

Jiang Xin turned her face away and swallowed.

“I’m not hungry. I don’t like to eat.”

Yuan Chenbi blinked and licked his lips.

“Auntie, can I go eat now?”

Jiang Wanti forced a smile, knowing she shouldn’t take her anger out on a child, but she still felt uncomfortable inside.

“Go ahead.”

Yuan Chenbi was carefree and couldn’t feel her mood. His mind was filled with the smell of delicious fish.

After Yuan Jin handled the salmon, he left a small portion of sashimi, most of it cooked. There was also a large pot of fish head soup, its white color making it very appetizing.

“Try this sashimi first, it’s incredibly fresh. I changed all the utensils for the program team.”

His culinary skills were good, and he also helped the team handle two more fish in exchange for some utensils.

Yue Su scooped some fish soup for Yao Yao, “It’s hot, drink it slowly.”

Yao Yao carefully held the bowl, pouting, her face nearly buried in it. She looked exceptionally well-behaved.

Yixia smiled involuntarily as he looked at her.

“She’s so young, and she can eat by herself.”

Yue Su lowered her head as she gave Yao Yao fish, unable to hold back her laughter. “She thinks that if she holds the chopsticks herself, she can eat whatever she wants.”

Despite her short arms, Yao Yao was quick with the chopsticks.

If Yao Yao was really hungry, she would eat heartily.

The camera focused on her side profile, her cheeks like rice dumplings, puffing up as she chewed.

【Help, I want to steal the child!】

【I used to think Crayon Shin-chan was exaggerated, hahahaha.】

【They tricked me with the daughter again!】

“Yuan Ge, your cooking skills are really good,” Yue Su couldn’t help but praise.

She never cooked herself; either Auntie made the food at home or Yue Qiong cooked.

When she wasn’t at home, she could only order takeout or go out to eat.

Yuan Jin chuckled, “My girlfriend was conquered by my cooking skills.”

Yuan Jiling, unafraid, corrected from the side, “Dad, it’s ex-girlfriend. Didn’t you just break up with her?”

Yuan Jin’s expression became blank. “Shut up!”

Yue Su couldn’t stop laughing. “Yuan Ge, how about we team up? In the future, if there are ingredients, you cook, and I can trade things with you.”

Yuan Jin immediately agreed. “Sure! As long as I’m with you and Yao Yao, I’ll never have to worry about food!”

Yixia quietly raised his hand. “If you don’t mind, can I join in?”

Yuan Jin waved his hand. “Come, come. I’m not picky; I can still cook. Mr. Fu, want to join us?”

Fu Xijin nodded. “Sorry to trouble you.”

Yuan Jin didn’t think it was troublesome at all. So many people wanted to talk to Fu Xijin but couldn’t find the opportunity.

He didn’t forget Jiang Wanti and Shen Junzai.

Jiang Wanti agreed right away, but Shen Junzai hesitated for a moment.

His conflict with Yue Su had already been made public, and it was the kind of situation where the mask had been torn off.

After thinking about it, he finally agreed, unable to avoid reality.

Seeing that everyone had decided to team up, Yixia thought it was best to set some rules.

“Since we’re teaming up, there should be some ground rules. I suggest everyone put in some money for buying pots, bowls, spoons, and various tools and seasonings.”

Yue Su nodded. “I agree. Since Yuan Ge is the one cooking, he’s put in the labor, so we’ll provide the ingredients. We’ll either provide ingredients or money, and he’ll cook. Very fair.”

Yixia nodded. “The lighter is mine, I’ll pay 100 yuan. The stove, seasonings, and these utensils are all from Teacher Yuan, the pot is from Wanti. So, give Yuan 800, Wanti 300, and we’ll use 300 to buy a knife.”

Dividing it up, everyone needed to contribute 250 yuan each.

Yue Su had just received the fish and took out 250, leaving her with 1100 yuan—quite a lot.

After eating, Yue Su wanted to help clean up but was stopped by Yixia.

“You should go set up the shelter. Otherwise, we won’t even have a place to sleep tonight.”

Shen Junzai suddenly spoke, “Sleeping outside isn’t a problem. It won’t rain anyway.”

Though his words seemed casual, the sarcasm in his tone made them harsh.

Yue Su replied, “It’s still early. Whether it rains or not is still uncertain.”

At this point, the livestream had already ended, so there was no need to be too cautious with words, but Yue Su couldn’t be bothered to respond to him.

Jiang Wanti called out, “A Jin, Sister Xin’s video call is connected.”

Fu Xijin patted Naonao’s head. “Go.”

Naonao ran off eagerly, wanting to see her mom.

Jiang Wanti’s gaze stayed fixed on Fu Xijin, her voice soft as she asked, “A Jin, aren’t you going to say something to Sister Xin?”

Fu Xijin replied, “No.”

He turned and lifted the wood for Yue Su, looking like he was going to help her build.

Yue Su sat on the ground, her gaze as cold as frost.

“Mr. Fu.”

Fu Xijin’s movement paused.

“I can do it myself. I won’t trouble you.”

Fu Xijin turned to look at her, his face as cold as usual, his eyes as deep as a still pond, revealing no emotion.

He let go, and the wood dropped with a thud on the ground, before he turned and left.

After walking a few steps, he saw Yao Yao squatting by the sand.

Fu Xijin considered himself someone with little patience, let alone one to coax children.

But when he saw Yao Yao, a certain part of him that was as hard as stone was touched with tenderness.

He squatted down beside Yao Yao, his wide figure casting a shadow over her.

“Kid, what are you building?”

Yao Yao’s face lit up as she eagerly showed him her creation.

“A cake!”

Fu Xijin looked at the lump on the ground. “I don’t really see a cake.”

Yao Yao shot him a glare. “That’s because your imagination isn’t rich enough.”

Fu Xijin pinched her little face, and a smile of tenderness appeared in his eyes, one he didn’t even realize was there.

“My imagination is lacking, but my hands are skilled.”

He had just put on a thin sunscreen jacket, too lazy to take it off, so he extended his arm in front of Yao Yao.

“Help Uncle roll up my sleeves, and I’ll make you a cake.”

Yao Yao’s face lit up, and she covered her little mouth.

“Really?”

“Of course.”

Yao Yao carefully rolled up his sleeve, her little hands awkward and slow. He quietly watched, not rushing her.

Just as she finished, they heard Jiang Wanti’s anxious voice: “A Jin, Xin Xin suddenly has a stomach ache. I don’t know if she ate something bad.”

Fu Xijin almost didn’t hesitate, standing up immediately and walking over quickly.

His steps were so hurried that he didn’t even notice that he had disturbed Yao Yao’s sandcastle.

Yao Yao looked at his back, the joy in her face fading and replaced by a sense of gloom.

She sniffed, lowered her head, and silently rebuilt the cake.

Before she could finish, Yuan Jiling came over with a bunch of wildflowers in his hand.

“Yao Yao, look what I picked for you.”

“Wow, so many flowers!”

Yuan Jiling placed the wildflowers into her hands, smiling foolishly.

“Let’s put these flowers on your cake. It’ll look beautiful!”

Yuan Chenbi walked over with some fresh leaves in his hands. “And these, we can make a big green cake!”

Yao Yao’s face lit up as she clapped her hands.

“Yay, yay!”
