Originally, the journey that would have taken two hours and forty minutes stretched out to over ten hours for the group of three cars. They arrived near Lan City at 12:30 AM.
To avoid passing through the center of Lan City at night and encountering a zombie swarm attack, they took a detour.
Moreover, the ten cars that had originally followed them along the way were now down by three, clearly indicating that someone had been abandoned on the road. In this weather, stopping on the road would undoubtedly mean death.
“It’s so late, the Lan City base should be closed by now, right?” asked Jia Wu, who was driving, unsure.
“It seems closed, but also not really?” Nan Muran looked at the scene ahead, somewhat uncertain.
The Lan City base was surrounded by a tall, sturdy defensive wall, and there seemed to be a smaller defensive city around it. The walls were just as high and solid, but the gates were open, with red glowing words at the top. It looked familiar to them.
“Yongye Hotel, did Boss Liu really come to the Lan City safe base?” Jia Wu was also surprised.
“It seems so. That’s actually good; it saves us from setting up tents outside the city,” Nan Muran said with a smile.
Yongye Hotel was inside a smaller defensive city, with a high and sturdy wall. A heavy steel gate had been left open facing outward.
At this moment, the gate was wide open, with ten handsome receptionists standing on either side, all wearing professional smiles. But the first two at the front were familiar to everyone. They were two of the five most outstanding ability users from Yongye Hotel.
“Miss Nan…” The receptionists were surprised to see Nan Muran in the car.
“Thank you for the trouble,” Nan Muran said, getting out of the car and signaling Jia Wu to hand the keys to the receptionist.
After receiving the keys, the receptionist personally parked the car for Nan Muran.
Behind them, Eagle was driving with his parents, and at the very back of the convoy were Taozi and Eagle’s older brother, Fu Chao. Seeing the scene in front of them, which seemed like the world before the apocalypse, they all felt a bit dazed.
Nan Muran’s arrival was quickly communicated inside the hotel.
Inside, Liu Mei, who had been bored, heard that Nan Muran and the others had arrived and came out with a big smile. She was still wearing a red outfit, charming and dazzling: “Little sister, it’s really you! I can hardly believe it.”
“Looks like I’ll have to trouble Boss Liu again,” Nan Muran smiled as she looked at Liu Mei, admiring her now confident and radiant demeanor.
“What are you saying? Am I afraid you’ll trouble me?” Liu Mei pretended to be angry.
Nan Muran quickly apologized, “Seems like I’m the one being petty.”
Liu Mei reached out and hooked her arm around Nan Muran’s, speaking intimately, “Of course not. What do you want to eat? Just tell me, I’ll have the chef prepare it for you.
I’ll tell you, I found a national banquet chef here, and their cooking is top-notch.”
“Sounds great, I won’t hold back then,” Nan Muran said openly. After all, in this post-apocalyptic world, she had everything that others lacked.
“That’s the way! Just treat Yongye as your own home,” Liu Mei was obviously pleased with Nan Muran’s unreservedness.
When they entered the first-floor lobby of the hotel, Nan Muran was surprised to see that it was quite crowded with guests, even somewhat full. “So many people?”
“Yeah, I opened both the front and back doors. The front door is for people who can’t get into the base, and the back door leads directly to the base,” Liu Mei said proudly. Her Yongye Hotel was the happiest place in the Lan City safe base.
Nan Muran looked around, impressed. Liu Mei had done a great job here, probably with the help of Zhou Ling. It was the kind of privilege that came from the collusion between base officials and businesspeople.
“Boss, the rooms on the second floor and the ones for Miss Nan and the others are ready,” a handsome man with thick eyebrows and big eyes came over to Liu Mei respectfully.
“Let’s go, let’s go. We’ll eat in the private room on the second floor,” Liu Mei said as she pulled Nan Muran’s hand to the second floor.
As before when they left, the two of them were in a small private room, while everyone else was arranged in a larger room.
Nan Muran looked at the ten classic Huaiyang dishes on the table, giving a thumbs-up. “Really impressive.”
“Go ahead, try it,” Liu Mei pushed a bowl of Buddha Jumps Over the Wall and braised pork towards Nan Muran.
“You’d better think about what you want, or I’ll feel bad eating it all,” Nan Muran said as she picked up a fresh abalone and took a bite. Her brows curved in satisfaction; it was indeed authentic.
Liu Mei sighed, “I don’t really need anything. I have food, drink, clothes, and fun; I’m living the life others think of as a fairy’s. But sometimes, it gets really boring.”
“That’s simple, I’ll give you some external hard drives. When you’re bored, just watch some shows,” Nan Muran casually suggested.
Liu Mei was stunned, “Watch shows?”
“Yeah, if you don’t want to watch shows, then read books? I have plenty of them too,” Nan Muran continued.
“I’ll take them all,” Liu Mei said without hesitation.
Nan Muran laughed and directly handed her a tablet.
Liu Mei looked at the full list of TV shows on it, “Little sister, you’re a treasure chest!”
“By the way, does Yongye get cold?” Nan Muran suddenly asked.
“It doesn’t get cold. Why do you ask that?” Liu Mei didn’t think Nan Muran was asking casually.
Nan Muran, of course, wouldn’t hide anything from Liu Mei, especially since both of them were special existences in this apocalyptic world. “The extreme cold is coming soon. The temperature will drop to about minus seventy degrees. You should get ready.”
Liu Mei sighed, somewhat helpless. “Looks like I’ll just stay in my room and binge-watch dramas.”
“How did you move Yongye here?” Nan Muran couldn’t help but be curious.
“Thanks to your friend, Young Master Zhou. He knows we’re close, so he helped arrange everything. He refused any payment, though.”
“However, I’m a person who keeps my word. I’ll send resources to him in return,” Liu Mei said. Yongye Hotel only accepted mutated cores, and business was booming, so resources were never in short supply.
Nan Muran nodded, “This place appeared overnight, and no one’s tried to take it?”
“Of course they have. Some people are heartless, thinking they can bully me because I’m a woman. I just fed them to Yongye.”
“My reputation in this base isn’t great, but I don’t care,” Liu Mei spoke without batting an eyelash. Of course, it was because she was talking to Nan Muran, someone who would understand.
Nan Muran smiled, “Beautiful women always have more trouble, but don’t worry about it.”
“I knew you’d see through it,” Liu Mei was very satisfied with Nan Muran’s words. “Do you like these dishes? I’ll prepare some for you when you leave.”
“You’re generous, so I’ll accept. By the way, do you want some mutated fruit?” Nan Muran wasn’t a greedy person, so she wouldn’t just accept favors from others.
“If you’re willing to part with it, I won’t be polite,” Liu Mei replied haughtily.
Nan Muran waved her hand and took out two of each mutated fruit from her space, handing them over. “Here, for you. Eat them yourself, don’t give them to anyone else.”
“Those handsome guys?” Liu Mei smiled. “Well, they’re just for fun, but I wouldn’t mind doing something nice for them.”
