“This is all prepared for you. In addition to lots of delicious dishes, there’s freshly squeezed juice, milk tea, other soups… You can secretly take all of this, it’ll be enough for you to eat for a year,” Liu Mei said generously.
Nan Muran couldn’t help but sigh, “Boss Liu, you really are incredibly generous.”
“Of course! I truly regard you as a sister,” Liu Mei genuinely liked Nan Muran’s personality and naturally wasn’t stingy with what she had.
“Then, thank you, Sister Liu,” Nan Muran said as she directly packed everything up.
Liu Mei lifted her chin proudly, “Oh, so you’re finally willing to call me ‘sister’?”
“Well, that’s only right,” Nan Muran said while pulling out a home brand suitable for Liu Mei from her space.
Seeing the hundreds of clothes she liked right in front of her, Liu Mei felt her gift was worth it, “Aiya, my sister really understands me.”
Once everyone had packed their things, they were ready to leave.
“Sister, maybe one day I’ll come find you at the West City Safety Base,” Liu Mei’s voice was sweet, filled with reluctance.
Nan Muran nodded, “I’ll be waiting for you.”
Zhou Ling looked at Nan Muran, reluctant to part, even with red eyes, “Big Boss, remember to come visit us at the Lan City Safety Base when you have time.”
Eagle looked at the guy speechlessly, “Can’t you be more manly?”
“I just don’t want to leave you guys,” Zhou Ling said, a little sad.
Just as everyone was bidding farewell, several people suddenly rushed out from one side.
“These are the ones who caused my son to freeze to death outside the base last night,” a woman in her thirties from the mechanical and electrical factory family stared venomously at the Fu family.
“Old Liu’s family, you shouldn’t say that,” Fu Mu immediately stepped forward, shielding everyone behind her.
The woman’s eyes grew even more vicious, “You guys were inside the hotel eating and drinking, sleeping warm and cozy, while we were outside freezing all night. Seven people died!”
“When did you all arrive at the base gate yesterday?” Zhou Ling, serious and formal now, asked.
The woman looked at Zhou Ling in confusion, instinctively about to retort.
“Young Master Zhou is one of the leaders of our base and is fair-minded. If you tell him the situation, maybe he can help you get justice,” an older woman kindly reminded her.
Nan Muran was surprised by the older woman’s words, Zhou Ling was really good at winning people over.
The woman suppressed her impulse to curse, “We arrived at the base gate at 12:30 AM last night.”
“12:30 AM, that’s when the zombie hordes are out. You still dared to rush here? You’ve got a good life. Our Lan City base closes its gates at 8 PM every night, and once it’s closed, no one can come in. You arrived at that time, so you could only wait outside,” a man nearby explained patiently, though feeling sorry for the woman.
A few days ago, Zhou Ling and his ability team had also been stuck outside the city, waiting at the gate. However, now with the Eternal Night, returning late from missions had become much more convenient for ability teams.
The woman looked around at the onlookers, her voice becoming impatient, “But the hotel was still open at that time. They just watched us freeze to death outside.”
Someone in the crowd sighed, “This Eternal Night hotel doesn’t belong to our Lan City Safety Base, and it only accommodates ability users. It’s not surprising that you couldn’t get in.”
When the Eternal Night hotel was first built, some people raised concerns, but the old lady, relying on hundreds of high-level mutated cores, bought land outside the city. The hotel didn’t need any protection from the base’s manpower. The only condition was that they needed to do business with the base and open a back door facing the base.
At first, people were uneasy, but eventually, they realized that there were a dozen or so high-level ability users inside the hotel.
The hotel, built outside the base, actually served as a safeguard for the entire Lan City Safety Base. It didn’t take up the base’s resources, provided safety, and allowed ability users to indulge in a little luxury.
It was a win-win situation, and after a few days, the entire base accepted the existence of the Eternal Night.
“That’s right, the Eternal Night hotel only accepts ability users or their companions. They’ve never made exceptions,” someone from the crowd spoke up for the hotel.
The woman’s heart sank as she listened to the whispers around her. She realized these people were not ones she could oppose.
“Does that mean my son died for nothing?”
Zhou Ling frowned and looked toward the people by the base gate, “Come and take care of this.”
The woman, seeing the soldiers approaching, went into a frenzy, “Aren’t you the base leader? You have to handle them, or I’ll kill myself here.”
“This woman seems to have gone mad,” a man in the crowd speculated.
“They didn’t do anything wrong. Your son’s death was an accident, and I can’t do anything about it,” Zhou Ling said, wanting to comfort her but sensing the woman’s agitation.
The woman suddenly laughed madly, “My son’s death was an accident, but it was caused by them. They deserve to die!”
“Old Liu’s family, calm down, this situation…” Fu Mu tried to explain again.
“I’ll never forgive you even as a ghost!” The woman then violently rushed toward a nearby defensive wall and collapsed after hitting it, unconscious.
The onlookers from the Lan City Safety Base pitied the woman but didn’t think Liu Mei had done anything wrong. In the end, in the apocalypse, it was everyone for themselves.
Nan Muran raised an eyebrow as she looked at the people from the mechanical and electrical factory. She couldn’t be bothered to probe their thoughts. Her tone was cold and filled with killing intent: “She’s still alive, but if you don’t save her in time, she won’t be for long.”
A few people shuddered at the coldness in Nan Muran’s eyes.
“What, don’t want to save her?” Eagle turned to the mechanical and electrical factory people, his gaze clearly threatening.
The group wasn’t stupid. They quickly rushed forward to lift the woman and head into the base. They knew that in the apocalypse, one wrong move could cost you your life. This woman was beyond saving, but they couldn’t help her because they lacked the ability.
Zhou Ling watched them leave and subconsciously glanced at Nan Muran. It was clear that with just a word from her, these people would never have a good life in the Lan City Safety Base again.
But Nan Muran said nothing, simply turning and getting into the car.
The two cars started, heading toward the West City Safety Base. At the same time, more than ten figures had already set off from Ling Mountain, heading toward the South Mountain Range of West City.
