Chapter 11: Intentions
Zhou Wenwen noticed Leng Mohan’s impatience. She dared not mention her feelings again, choosing to put it aside temporarily, thinking she would find a more suitable opportunity later.
Before clarifying Luo Jiaojiao’s true identity, Zhou Wenwen chose to proceed cautiously.
She looked at Leng Mohan intently, her eyes filled with longing.
But Leng Mohan found her gaze repulsive, as if he deeply disliked her.
Zhou Wenwen had harbored a secret crush on Leng Mohan for three years, a fact known throughout the unit. However, his cold attitude left her deeply disappointed.
As Leng Mohan opened the back car door, gesturing for Luo Jiaojiao to get in, Zhou Wenwen suddenly spoke, “Camp Commander Leng, you came in a military vehicle, right? Could you drop me off on your way back?” A hint of expectation laced her voice.
Leng Mohan frowned slightly, not immediately answering.
Zhou Wenwen lightly opened the passenger door, gracefully sat down, a radiant smile on her face, her gaze fixed on Leng Mohan.
Luo Jiaojiao witnessed all this, her anxiety rising like a tide.
She saw that Leng Mohan didn’t stop Zhou Wenwen, but rather seemed to anticipate her actions. This woman clearly knew Leng Mohan, and he even let her sit in the passenger seat, making their relationship even more ambiguous.
Leng Mohan felt slightly displeased by Zhou Wenwen’s directness, but he didn’t say anything.
He thought, since she said it was a military vehicle, let her ride. He would pretend she wasn’t there.
He glanced at Luo Jiaojiao, seeing she was settled, then started the car and smoothly drove back to the base.
In the eyes of others, Zhou Wenwen sitting in the passenger seat of Leng Mohan’s car was a picture of victory.
They all mistakenly believed she had captured Leng Mohan’s heart, but the reality was far different.
When Leng Mohan gently helped a beautiful woman out of the back seat, Zhou Wenwen’s face instantly darkened, as if struck by a cold slap of reality.
Leng Mohan ignored the reactions around him. Carrying his purchases, he walked towards his quarters with Luo Jiaojiao.
People passing by stared, their faces showing shock, as if they had seen something unbelievable.
“Is that really our Iceberg Wolf King? He’s actually with a woman, carrying bags and bags, clearly taking her back to his place. Am I seeing things?” Wang Li’s eyes widened in disbelief, seeking confirmation from Mu Bai beside him.
Mu Bai was equally shocked. He clearly remembered Leng Mohan saying he was going to pick up his wife, but he thought it was a joke. He never expected him to actually bring someone back.
The two stood watching Leng Mohan and the woman’s retreating figures, filled with surprise and curiosity.
“She… is Leng Mohan’s wife,” Mu Bai said uncertainly to Wang Li.
Wang Li had just picked up his water cup. This sentence was like a bombshell, causing him to spray water everywhere.
Mu Bai was caught off guard, his face splashed with water mixed with Wang Li’s cigarette smoke, causing him to frown.
He endured the discomfort, gritting his teeth, “Smoke less, or you won’t have a peaceful old age.” He pulled out a handkerchief, wiping the water from his face.
After using the handkerchief, he unceremoniously tossed it into a nearby trash can, clearly not intending to use it again.
Wang Li felt embarrassed. He looked at Mu Bai, laughing nervously, “Mu Bai, are you disgusted with me?”
“Isn’t it obvious? I just find it unbelievable and want to ask Mohan for clarification. Go get me some food from the canteen, I’ll go check things out first.” Mu Bai would have gone to wash up if he wasn’t so curious about Leng Mohan’s wife.
“Wait, what did you mean just now? Leng Mohan really has a wife? Where did he get a wife?” Wang Li, carrying two lunch boxes, grabbed Mu Bai and pressed him for answers.
“Wasn’t Zhou Wenwen chasing him? But that woman isn’t Zhou Wenwen!” Wang Li was completely confused by Mu Bai’s words.
Mu Bai shrugged innocently, “I’m also confused. I just casually asked before Mohan left, and he said he was going to pick up his wife.”
“Then hurry up and get me food, I’ll go see what’s going on.” Mu Bai gently pushed Wang Li’s hand away from his arm.
“Don’t forget the braised pork,” Mu Bai instructed before hurrying off in the direction Leng Mohan had gone, leaving Wang Li dumbfounded.
Wang Li had no heart for food now. He followed Mu Bai, eager to find out the truth.
Leng Mohan also took Luo Jiaojiao to his current residence, a rather small single room.
After Luo Jiaojiao opened the door, a flash of surprise crossed her eyes, but it was quickly smoothed away by Leng Mohan’s explanation.
“It’s a bit small, but we can move into the newly approved house within five days. For now, it’s just the old house in the old district. It’s not a new building in the new district, but I’ll clean it up, and we’ll get the furniture. You don’t need to worry.” Leng Mohan’s voice was calm and firm, giving a sense of reassurance.
Luo Jiaojiao nodded gently, a hint of trust in her eyes, “I believe you.”
Hearing that the house approval was imminent, Luo Jiaojiao breathed a sigh of relief.
She looked around. The room was simply arranged: a bathroom to the right, then an army-green single bed, next to a desk and a small wardrobe. The space was cramped, with little room to move. Honestly, if she and Leng Mohan were to live here, it would be quite crowded.
“Let’s go inside,” Leng Mohan noticed the soldiers’ eyes lingering on Luo Jiaojiao, his brow furrowed slightly. He softly suggested.
Luo Jiaojiao also felt uncomfortable under those gazes, so she nodded obediently and followed Leng Mohan into the room.
“Mohan, wait,” Mu Bai saw Leng Mohan about to enter the room and quickly stopped him.
Leng Mohan turned around, a hint of confusion in his brow. Thinking something urgent had happened in the unit, he closed the door and looked at Mu Bai, asking, “What happened in the unit?”
Mu Bai looked at him, a little hesitation on his face. He had intended to ask at the door, but seeing Leng Mohan had already closed the door, he didn’t want to intrude further.
“The woman who just went into your room, who is she? Is she really your wife?” Mu Bai stared at Leng Mohan, curious.
