Chapter 50 Beautiful
Leng Mohan looked at the person in his arms, who was frightened by the slightest movement. The slight annoyance he felt when his comrades looked at her earlier had vanished.
Her appearance was stunningly beautiful. He should cherish her, not make her feel uneasy. He had been too overbearing.
Leng Mohan looked at Luo Jiaojiao, and said gently but firmly, “Jiaojiao, I was wrong. You’re very beautiful, and it’s only natural for others to look at you. It shows that my wife is beautiful, and that’s what I fell for. Don’t feel uneasy, I’ll protect you. You’re the face of our family; the more beautiful you are, the more capable I appear. I’ll protect you and buy you more skincare products so you’ll always be this beautiful.”
His voice was low and magnetic, each word filled with strength and determination. Luo Jiaojiao raised her head, tears welling up in her eyes. She looked into Leng Mohan’s eyes, which were full of love and tenderness.
Leng Mohan gently wiped away the tears from Luo Jiaojiao’s eyes and said, “Luo Jiaojiao, you’re my wife, and I won’t let you suffer any harm. Don’t be afraid, I’ll always be by your side, protecting and taking care of you.”
Leng Mohan held Luo Jiaojiao’s hand and walked back to the dormitory. His expression was somewhat gloomy, and he didn’t seem to be in a good mood. Luo Jiaojiao silently followed him. She knew he was unhappy because of her.
“What I said to you is true, but it’s also true that I don’t like other people looking at you. Do you think I’m being overbearing?” Leng Mohan suddenly stopped, turned around, and looked at Luo Jiaojiao. His eyes held a hint of confusion and anxiety, as if waiting for her answer.
Luo Jiaojiao looked up into Leng Mohan’s eyes, a wave of emotion surging in her heart. She knew he truly cared about her and loved her. She gently shook her head and said, “I like it.”
Leng Mohan was surprised and looked up at Luo Jiaojiao. He hadn’t expected her to say that. His eyes were filled with doubt and confusion, as if asking, “You really like it?”
Luo Jiaojiao nodded. “I really like it. I like your overbearing nature; it shows you care about me. If you didn’t care, you wouldn’t care about those gazes. I don’t like Zhou Wenwen’s look at you either. I saw it in the car yesterday; she kept staring at you. I don’t like it.”
Hearing this, the anxiety and doubt in Leng Mohan’s heart disappeared.
“Okay, I won’t let her get close to you in the future, I won’t let her look at you.” Leng Mohan assured Luo Jiaojiao.
Luo Jiaojiao heard that he was doing this to reassure her and avoid suspicion. “Brother Leng, you’re so kind. When I first met you, I was actually very afraid of you.”
“You had a cold face then. I thought you didn’t like me or looked down on me, but at that time, you were the only one I could rely on. I didn’t dare to mention canceling the engagement. Only after I found out you didn’t have anyone you liked did I muster the courage to be with you properly.”
“I know I can’t help you much, and I’m completely clueless about housework, but you didn’t dislike me for that. You’re willing to give me a chance to learn. I will definitely try my best to be a good wife and take care of you.”
“So you can tell me what you want, and I’ll do it. You’re good to me, and I’ll be good to you too.” Luo Jiaojiao said, looking at Leng Mohan.
Leng Mohan’s thoughts drifted back to the day they first officially met. He remembered how cautious he had been, afraid his coldness would scare her.
He tried to be gentler, trying to let her feel the warmth in his heart.
He also knew he was cold and not good at expressing his emotions. Although he had tried to be gentler with Luo Jiaojiao, he still hadn’t done enough.
Leng Mohan was lost in his memories, recalling Luo Jiaojiao’s smiles in front of him.
However, he also noticed that Luo Jiaojiao smiled more brightly in front of others, and when she was with him, she was mostly afraid. He didn’t know why, and he didn’t know how to make her more relaxed and happy.
Leng Mohan felt a sense of helplessness. He knew his personality was difficult to change, but he didn’t want Luo Jiaojiao to always be afraid of him.
Luo Jiaojiao didn’t know this. She didn’t know that Leng Mohan was already being very gentle with her; he was truly cold to others, the kind of coldness that felt like an icy blast in summer.
“Mohan, come here.”
Leng Mohan looked up and saw the commander and deputy commander beckoning him. He nodded slightly in response.
He turned to Luo Jiaojiao and said softly, “Go back yourself first. Here’s the key. Third floor. Okay?”
Luo Jiaojiao also noticed the people not far away. She nodded and took the key, softly replying, “Okay, go ahead.”
Leng Mohan watched her go upstairs until her figure disappeared at the stairwell before turning to the commander and deputy commander.
“Commander, Deputy Commander.” He greeted them politely, his face bearing a faint seriousness.
“Mm, we happened to be walking by and saw you, so we called you over. I just received news that this competition isn’t just limited to the three military regions near us; people from the Northwest and South will also participate. You need to step up your training.” Ou Cheng looked at Leng Mohan, his tone somewhat serious.
Leng Mohan frowned slightly, a ripple of unease in his heart. What’s going on?
“This competition is probably not as simple as the usual quarterly routine.” Leng Mohan’s intuition told him that things were far more complicated than they seemed.
Ou Cheng and Liang Xin nodded at each other, their eyes showing determination and expectation. This was indeed an unusual competition. “It’s a competition for the right to recruit new soldiers. The winner of this competition will have the right to allocate new recruits. After all, only a strong team can attract more talented people to join and have more choices.”
Leng Mohan listened quietly, but he was silently calculating the time, wondering if Luo Jiaojiao had arrived home safely.
When he saw the light on in his room, he was slightly relieved.
Ou Cheng and Liang Xin subtly noticed Leng Mohan’s distraction; a playful smile curved their lips.
“It seems you need to keep her by your side to feel at ease.” Ou Cheng teased, his words revealing a playful teasing of Leng Mohan’s deep affection.
Leng Mohan was slightly embarrassed and touched his nose. His worries and his concerns for Luo Jiaojiao were evident to them.
“Now that you’re married, I’m relieved. I was even worried you wouldn’t get married in your lifetime.” Ou Cheng turned to Leng Mohan, his tone relaxed.
