Liang Dahu was originally asleep in his room when he inexplicably heard a noise, so he groggily pushed open the door and came out.
The gelatinous substance immediately stood up upon seeing him. The thick black mass was layered with bloody vapor and dark mist, its hideous face constantly shifting. Liang Dahu was so frightened that he sat down directly on the ground.
He could see it.
Among the mask-like faces, one was Zhang Xiaosong’s face, along with that sinister and desperate gaze.
He would never forget those eyes staring at him.
Sui Han leaped up from the cellar. He wanted to see if this family’s revenge would succeed, but he thought it was unlikely.
Otherwise, many years later, Liang Dahu wouldn’t have changed his name to Liang Xue, who had acted as a hypocrite for decades and still had rumors of a haunted neighborhood circulating.
“Drizzle, drizzle—”
The night sky had unknowingly begun to sprinkle a little rain. The raindrops hit the ground, but there was no earthy fragrance, only the sea’s fishy, salty smell.
The gelatinous substance seemed somewhat afraid of this smell, or rather, fearful of the seawater.
Their swift movements forward gradually turned into a difficult struggle. They desperately clawed at the ground step by step, trying to crawl to Liang Dahu’s side.
They wanted to attach themselves to his disgusting face, devour his soul, and tear apart his filthy heart!
With a “boom” of muffled thunder, the gelatinous substance completely collapsed on the ground and stopped moving. Sui Han turned around, and an old Taoist priest walked over, wielding a horsetail whisk.
“Alas, didn’t this poor Taoist tell you not to commit any more sins?”
Liang Dahu was terrified entirely this time, so scared that he lost control of his bladder, and his legs were too weak to stand. His upper teeth chattered against his lower teeth as he said, “No, I didn’t, I didn’t kill them. They set the fire themselves. They didn’t want to live anymore. It’s not my fault!”
The old Taoist didn’t argue with him, but took a small bottle from his robes.
“I obtained a handful of seawater blessed at the Sea Temple. This is all I can do to help you.”
As the handful of water was sprinkled out, the gelatinous substance disappeared.
The Zhang family in the cellar eventually turned into several pieces of white bone, their stark whiteness chilling to the bone.
The Zhang family died silently. Liang Dahu personally bought a burial plot and put all the bones into the grave, secretly concluding the matter.
But the matter wasn’t over. Sui Han still followed Liang Dahu around all day.
Liang Dahu hosted a banquet for the old Taoist, who gave him a painting, precisely the “Sea Temple” picture. “It’s best not to touch this land. Just leave it as it is. Hang this painting in your house, and it’s best if you don’t live here anymore either.”
Liang Dahu remembered the bizarre scene he had seen that night, and his heart trembled. “Then, then they… I mean, those things are still there?”
“Yes, otherwise why would I tell you to use the painting to suppress them?”
The old Taoist shared a meal with Liang Dahu, then immediately left.
Curious, Sui Han followed the old Taoist back to the temple, then saw the Taoist priest close the door tightly and crack a sinister smile.
That smile stretched his mouth at least to his back molars.
The old Taoist reached out and removed his hat. Only then did Sui Han realize that the old Taoist was fake; this guy had no head.
His body was swirling with black energy. The fake old Taoist cackled strangely, shook himself, and a black turban appeared on his head. Sui Han was amazed.
He recognized that this thing was the same as those chasing him.
Not human, but he didn’t know what it was.
So this thing had no head? No wonder it always wrapped its head in a black turban.
After watching the excitement there, Sui Han immediately returned to Liang Dahu’s house. Liang Dahu correctly hangs the “Sea Temple” picture on the wall, kneels on the heated brick bed, and kowtows repeatedly.
He muttered, “I won’t do bad things anymore. Please let me off this time. I was young and ignorant. Everyone makes mistakes. Forgive me, please!!”
The “Sea Temple” picture didn’t react at all. Liang Dahu moved out of Wulipo that very night.
Time flew by, and Wulipo was in an uproar twenty years later. It was said that several demolitions were unsuccessful, and it seemed like someone was always causing trouble behind the scenes.
The government couldn’t attract bids, and construction couldn’t start.
Liang Xue sat in his office answering the phone. The other party roared at him furiously, “These bungalows must be demolished! I’ll ruin you if you keep pulling strings behind the scenes!”
Liang Xue wiped the cold sweat from his forehead and dared not interfere anymore. But the old Taoist had told him not to touch this land back then.
After thinking it over, he had no choice but to use his connections to manipulate the bidding process and successfully became the developer of Wulipo.
But so many years had passed, and he had lost contact with the old Taoist. So he had to find a feng shui master and subtly asked where the heaviest yin energy was in these three buildings.
The feng shui master measured it and said, “The middle building, second unit, seventh floor, apartment two.”
Liang Xue thanked the feng shui master generously. When the building was completed, he hung the “Sea Temple” picture inside.
He had tried to contact the family that had won the lottery number, but they refused to sell the house to him. But after all the trouble, it ended up in the hands of Movie Emperor Xu Songyan.
But at the time, Xu Songyan was just an insignificant small-time actor.
Liang Xue wanted to find him and repurchase the house from him, but as the foundation was laid, his health deteriorated, and he got worse and worse.
Over the years, he had spent money doing good deeds and building schools, all in an attempt to atone for his sins.
Or rather, he didn’t regret anything from the bottom of his heart. He was just afraid of being haunted by the ghosts of the Zhang family.
The story ends.
Sui Han opened his eyes again and stood by the vast sea.
“So, Xu Songyan was just implicated by you, Liang Dahu.”
The boy turned to look at the dying Liang Xue. The older man’s white hair barely showed any black anymore. The dark red in Sui Han’s eyes surged like ocean waves.
He called out the name “Liang Dahu.”
Liang Xue paused, released the unconscious Xu Songyan, and took two steps back in terror.
“Who are you?!”
Sui Han smiled softly, a cold smile filled with a faint malevolence.
Around him, white halos were mixed with chilling black mist. Sui Han stepped forward, and the dark red in his eyes gradually turned black.
“You think doing more good deeds can erase your evil? You’re a bit naive.”
“I, I… How do you know about the Zhang family? Who exactly are you?!”
Liang Xue’s heart trembled violently.
How could this short boy with a child-like face know about such ancient things? Could he be…?
Liang Xue raved like a madman, “You’re Zhang Xiaosong!”
“No, that’s not right!”
Zhang Xiaosong had died long ago.
He never expected back then that the stubborn little boy, only nine years old, would dare to be so ruthless and burn himself to death!
Sui Han stopped in front of Liang Xue.
Huan Huan had sensed its master’s abnormality and had been supporting itself with its nine tails to protect him. The golden-red vortex mark emitted rustling golden light, preventing any ghosts and monsters around from daring to act rashly.
The god, through Xu Songyan, was found by a true believer, and the believer willingly entered the god’s body, empathizing with him.
During empathy, the body was also at its most vulnerable.
Who wouldn’t want to possess the body of a god?
If they were to devour him, what a delicious feast that would be?
Liang Xue was about to cry. Even though he was nearly fifty years old and had been named a major entrepreneur in Shanhai City for his charitable work recently, he was still at heart the evil bully he had always been.
A beast.
His heart was black to the core.
“Who the hell are you? I’m telling you, I’m not afraid of you!”
Liang Xue frantically pulled out a talisman from his pocket. He had obtained it from a real temple many years ago. He had been having good luck since he started wearing it, and the talisman had become his life-saving charm.
Sui Han tilted his head, his handsome eyebrows furrowed, his pure black eyes fixed on him.
“Have you ever heard the saying, ‘God loves the world’?”
“God loves the world, so what?” Liang Xue trembled, his voice filled with fear.
The boy smiled, but it wasn’t a genuine smile, but a mockery, a cold gaze like Zhang Xiaosong’s back then. “I am receiving the prayers of believers. They ask me… to send you to the afterlife.”
Liang Xue was utterly stunned.
Sui Han’s gaze gradually merged with Zhang Xiaosong’s.
They had the same pure eyes and looked at him with the same fearlessness.
Liang Xue held his head and screamed hoarsely, “Ahhh, don’t look at me with those eyes! Don’t you dare look at me with those eyes!!”
“Alright, I’ll grant your wish.”
Sui Han’s figure flickered as he came closer. At the moment, Liang Xue didn’t notice, so the boy placed a hand on Liang Xue’s neck and gently tapped his throat with his fingertip.
“Go avenge yourselves, my believers.”
Receiving the order, the gelatinous substance within his body shot out and immediately clung to Liang Xue’s face.
They had waited far too long for this revenge.
Liang Xue screamed and frantically tried to tear them off, but he could only scratch his face and feel blood all over his hands.
The faces of the Zhang family reappeared on the thick wall of blood. The mask kept changing, screaming, roaring, and finally bursting into laughter.
Liang Xue was strangled, and his face was scraped off.
He wanted to do something but was powerless, just like the Zhang family who had wanted to get out back then, so helpless and desperate.
This baptism of slaughter lasted for nearly half an hour.
As the waves crashed against the reefs, Liang Xue fell to the ground with a “thud.” The bloody mask had entirely devoured the features on his face.
His life was coming to an end.
In the cold, dark cellar, Zhang Xiaosong sat indifferently, lighting the fire with his family.
He repeatedly prayed in his heart: If there really is a god in this world, I want to ask you, I beg you to take us out of hell…
On the hospital’s windowsill was a bouquet dripping with dew.
Xu Songyan woke up and saw Sui Han sitting beside him. Huan Huan was already sleepy, its four paws spread out, hanging on Sui Han’s jacket hood like a small kite, sleeping very sweetly.
“Sui Han? What happened to me… weren’t we fishing?”
Xu Songyan looked at the boy blankly, propped himself up on his arms, and felt a slight headache, but it seemed to be because he had slept too long.
He felt a very relaxed sensation on his face, as if the mask stuck to his face had been removed.
Xu Songyan exhaled. The assistant heard the sound and immediately ran in. “Brother Xu, you’re finally awake! I was so scared when Sui Han called me and said that you fainted!”
Xu Songyan wanted to recall what had happened, but his memory was still blank.
“What about Brother Liang?” Xu Songyan thought of Liang Xue.
The assistant sighed upon hearing this. “When we rushed over, Mr. Liang seemed to have suffered a relapse of an old illness. Sui Han and I took you both to the hospital, but he couldn’t be saved. He was buried yesterday.”
Xu Songyan was kind and didn’t know what bad things Liang Xue had done in the past. He sighed when he heard the bad news.
“Brother Liang was a good person. Was the funeral held? Where was he buried? I want to go see him.”
“He didn’t have any family, and he never married or had children, so he could only be cremated. His ashes were scattered into the sea.”
“Okay…”
Sui Han returned to the Yunchuan Hotel and didn’t go out all day.
The next competition was tomorrow. He turned on the live stream, pulled Huan Huan in front of the camera to greet everyone, and then used the tablet from Xu Songyan to search for the Sea Temple.
He opened the browser and entered those two words.
The search results returned the message: Sorry, no such place found.
Sui Han was a little dazed.
That night by the sea, when the mask devoured Liang Xue’s soul, he felt the disturbance on the sea.
It was an unusually familiar and repulsive aura, as if something had quietly come to his side, watching him follow the wishes of the believers and punish the culprit.
That aura was similar to his but not quite the same, turning into a pair of deep black eyes in the darkness.
Quietly, scrutinizing his every move.
[Woohoo, Sui Sui is finally streaming! How have the fox cub and Sui Sui been these past few days? Why haven’t you been streaming?]
[Haven’t you heard the news? Mr. Liang, one of the competition’s organizers, suddenly passed away from an illness.
[Oh my god, how could something like this happen, sob sob sob]
[It’s okay. Liang Xue is just one of the organizers, so the show will continue without him.]
[Hehehe, then let me ask for everyone, Sui Sui! What delicious food are you planning to make for the kids? I know you cook super delicious!]
[I’m so looking forward to the cooking segment where we can see your perspective]
“Haven’t decided yet.”
Sui Han was still thinking about that familiar aura. He wasn’t really in the mood for the live stream. His voice was faint, sounding even more aloof than usual.
But the small group of fans following him were all true fans. They were already used to Sui Han’s cold attitude.
[Is Sui Sui feeling unwell? Maybe you should go lie down]
[Yeah, Sui Sui, you need to maintain a good mental state to win]
[Don’t let Bai Bai and Brother Leopard beat you. I heard they’re working together. I kind of hate Bai Bai. Are there any Bai Bai fans here?]
[No, Bai Bai’s fans are all in Bai Bai’s room. We only spoil Sui Sui!]
Sui Han was indeed a little tired.
After sending them to the hospital, he hadn’t left.
After Liang Xue was sent to the hospital, he still had vital signs. In this world, some people, after being punished, still retain a trace of consciousness.
Because they need time to repent.
Even if they never repent, they must learn to repent and accept repentance in the face of divine punishment.
Sui Han fell asleep quickly after lying down on the bed.
The little fox cub in front of the screen was jumping up and down, grabbing the special effects torpedoes on the screen.
As the name suggests, a torpedo looks like a big fish. Every time a fan throws a deep-sea torpedo, a big fish appears on the screen. The fox cub thought it was a fish it could eat.
It hadn’t eaten enough fish on the island last time.
Small plum blossoms appeared one by one on the phone screen. The fox cub’s round face approached the camera, and many minor question marks appeared in Huan Huan’s bright eyes.
[Small question marks, are there many children?]
[One more, I can play with Huan Huan all night without getting sleepy]
Deep-sea torpedoes were thrown non-stop, and Huan Huan twisted its cute little face, pawing at the special effects big fish on the screen.
Meanwhile, Bai Bai and Brother Leopard streamed on the live stream next door.
Because everyone already knew they were working together, even if Bai Bai refused to share the points with Brother Leopard in the opening round, they were still partners.
[Bai Bai, have you decided what delicious food you will make tomorrow?]
[Bai Bai, I heard that Sui Han cooks with the fox. His fans even brag that he cooks better than a restaurant chef, lol]
[Delicious dishes take more time. I saw the conditions for the second game. It seems like there isn’t much time for the competition.]
[What should we do? Why don’t Bai Bai and Brother Leopard work together to make a dish?]
[It seems like some streamers have done that before. I remember a few years ago, there was a dish that required carving, and the steps were super complicated, so that streamer also collaborated with other streamers to complete it]
[That’s a great idea. That way, Sui Han will have no chance of winning, hehehe.]
[Stop mentioning Sui Han, it isn’t very pleasant!]
Bai Bai smiled triumphantly. “I’ve also considered working with Brother Leopard. You probably don’t know, but before Brother Leopard became a pet streamer, he worked as a restaurant cook.”
Brother Leopard’s expression turned embarrassed when he heard Bai Bai publicly reveal his past.
But he didn’t dare to get angry with Bai Bai, so he could only laugh dryly and say, “No, I didn’t work there for many days. I was young at the time and didn’t know what to do. My family thought I should try it out since a relative owned a restaurant. Later, I found out that it wasn’t so suitable.”
Bai Bai glanced at him. “If you were young, why didn’t you go to school? Don’t tell me, Brother Leopard, you didn’t attend college?”
Brother Leopard curled his fingers, his expression immediately displeased.
Bai Bai deliberately said, “Oh, so there are people who haven’t gone to college. I thought everyone was like me, a graduate of a 985 prestigious university.”
Brother Leopard took a deep breath, but he didn’t dare to say anything harsh in the end.
He hadn’t gone to college.
So what?
Was it illegal?!
But he only dared to roar in his heart. Who told him to rely on Bai Bai to reach the top ten?
The venue for the second competition was on the square behind the Yunchuan Hotel. This was Yunchuan City’s People’s Square. The venue was large enough, and some celebrities often held concerts here, so chairs were already available.
Sui Han slept all night and was noticeably more energetic.
He slowly walked to the center of the square. Huan Huan stood at his feet, facing the wind, her fur blown backward.
The wind had picked up in the morning, but the weather forecast said it would stop in twenty minutes.
Sui Han was about to follow everyone to draw lots when he glanced at the audience and saw a boy about his age sitting in a chair and smiling at him.
Beside the boy, a dragon was obediently perched on his arm.
Was that dragon real or fake?
Sui Han frowned and wondered.
