Release the Female Lead, Leave Her to Me
Release the Female Lead Ch. 919

Chapter 919: Cabbage Cultivation

Thanks to money, Ye Wenxin and Han Shanxue had grown closer. Ye Wenxin felt giddy. Maybe she wouldn’t have such a hard time if throwing money at female leads was enough to get along with them.

Sadly, reality didn’t always work that way. Not with someone like Ghost Mother, who couldn’t even be tempted away with golden pills.

When she returned to find Ye Wenxin and Han Shanxue having tea together, Ghost Mother suspiciously pointed out, “Miss Ye, I feel like you two have gotten a lot closer while I was out.”

“Mm, we chatted about life,” Ye Wenxin replied vaguely, shooting Ghost Mother a warning glance. Though dissatisfied, Ghost Mother knew better than to push her luck. She was about to rest when she noticed two pillows on the sleeping mat.

“Miss Ye, you’re so considerate. Are you planning to sleep on the floor with Miss Han?” asked Ghost Mother, delighted. She even felt touched. Ye Wenxin might have a bad mouth, but she still cared about her.

“No, you and Miss Han will sleep on the floor,” Ye Wenxin replied bluntly. “I’ll be taking the bed.” She felt justified in treating Han Shanxue like a hired hand after the arrangement they had established earlier.

“No way, I want to sleep with you!” Ghost Mother shook her head vehemently, clinging to Ye Wenxin’s arm. Ye Wenxin had already seen this scene a few times. She tried another approach. “Then I’ll share the bed with Miss Han.”

Ghost Mother’s head shook even harder, looking at her with watery eyes, feeling bullied.

“Fine, you’ll sleep with me,” Ye Wenxin gave her final verdict. This had been her plan all along, but she’d tried to phrase it subtly so Ghost Mother wouldn’t think she wanted her body.

“Good, it’s settled then.” Ghost Mother’s paranoia didn’t act up this time. She obediently took off her outer robe and slipped under the covers, gazing at Ye Wenxin with wide eyes, afraid she might change her mind.

Ye Wenxin found it amusing but held back her laughter and turned to Han Shanxue.

“Miss Han, why don’t you take the bed?”

Han Shanxue didn’t move. By etiquette and reason, it wasn’t appropriate.

“Who will protect us if you’re not well-rested?” Ye Wenxin added. Reminded of her duty, Han Shanxue soon climbed into the bed. However, instead of lying down, she sat cross-legged and began meditating, a sword in hand.

Ye Wenxin didn’t question it. Han Shanxue had lived a hard life. She wouldn’t shake off old habits overnight.

Beside her, Ghost Mother still watched her with hopeful eyes. Ye Wenxin finally slipped under the quilt, only to feel a chill.

She could tell Ghost Mother was holding back. Otherwise, the cold would have rivaled even Han Shanxue’s aura. Ye Wenxin didn’t turn away, though, and told Ghost Mother to shut her eyes.

Ghost Mother had become noticeably more obedient. Once they extinguished the candle, the room fell into silence. Yet, Ghost Mother seemed antsy. A sweet but slightly cold breath brushed against Ye Wenxin’s face.

Ghost Mother’s beauty couldn’t hide her ghostly nature on a night like this.

“What are you doing?” Ye Wenxin asked through their mental link.

“Master, I’m hungry.” Ghost Mother looked at Ye Wenxin with a pitiful expression.

Although she could now eat human food, Ghost Mother relied on Ye Wenxin’s Yin energy. Her need for it had grown stronger after her recent evolution. But nighttime was their only chance to be alone. Even with Han Shanxue nearby, she couldn’t help herself.

Ye Wenxin considered making her wait until the next day but remembered her goal of becoming a good person. She shouldn’t be so cruel.

She turned her head to glance at Han Shanxue. The woman’s eyes remained closed, her breathing steady. She seemed deeply asleep. But Ye Wenxin knew Han Shanxue would immediately sense any move she made.

She decided not to risk it and whispered, “Let’s go outside.”

Ghost Mother agreed at once, and the two tiptoed out of the room.

Back inside, Han Shanxue slowly opened her eyes. She looked toward the closed door, trying to confirm something. But then she shook her head, closing her eyes again.

……

Ye Wenxin led Ghost Mother through a meandering path until they arrived at a secluded alley. She scanned the area, confirmed not even a fly was nearby, and finally allowed Ghost Mother to return to her true form.

Dark green eyes no human could ever possess appeared. Ghost Mother floated in midair, wrapping her limbs around Ye Wenxin as she connected their lips. Looking back now, Ye Wenxin realized she might have misunderstood Ghost Mother’s intentions in the forest last time.

Ghost Mother’s temperament had improved. Maybe the evolution had also matured her mind.

“Mm…”

However, after a few sips of Yin energy, Ghost Mother’s green eyes glowed brighter. Her hands roved all over Ye Wenxin, seeming like a creature in heat.

When Ye Wenxin didn’t respond, Ghost Mother bit one of her fingers in anger, and blood flowed out. Realizing she’d gone too far, Ghost Mother hurriedly licked it clean. But that one lick revealed something.

Ye Wenxin’s blood was incredibly pure, and Ghost Mother found it hard to stop herself.

Frowning, Ye Wenxin flicked Ghost Mother’s forehead.

“Ouch!”

Ghost Mother bounced back a few meters, eyes aggrieved. Ye Wenxin took out some healing medicine from her bag of holding, visibly unhappy.

For some reason, she hated bleeding. It was like a voice in the back of her mind constantly reminded her that her blood was precious.

“I’m sorry, Master,” Ghost Mother quickly admitted her fault, though she was secretly delighted. When Ye Wenxin was angry, she always got the punishment she desired.

“It’s fine. But I will burn the umbrella sword if it happens again,” Ye Wenxin replied, unusually cold. She carefully bandaged the wound, fearing it might get infected.

Ghost Mother hadn’t used any poison, though. Ye Wenxin was acting oddly. Yet the moment she recalled the taste of that blood, heat surged through her whole body again.

“Master…” she called hesitantly.

“Speak.”

Ye Wenxin was still upset, but she forced it down.

“I think… I’m about to break through again.”

Ye Wenxin’s eyes widened. Ghost Mother’s excuse sounded too disingenuous.

“You think breakthroughs are like cabbages? You just evolved, and now you’re leveling up again?”

“It’s true, look…”

Ghost Mother focused her energy. A glowing green sphere surfaced from her chest. That power source was enormous and dazzling, rapidly expanding as though it might explode.
