The Breakfast Shop Downstairs [Apocalypse]
The Breakfast Shop Downstairs [Apocalypse] – Chapter 15

Fu Qingze was walking down the street while holding a small bag of experimental instruments.

When he saw Lin You, he was taken aback.

Then, he walked over and greeted Lin You, “What a coincidence, I was just going to look for you.”

Lin You, puzzled, asked, “Looking for me? Did Director Shang tell you?”

Fu Qingze nodded and walked alongside Lin You, “He just called me and asked me to retest your ingredients. This time it needs to be stricter, and there are a lot more detailed indicators added.”

Lin You smiled, “Alright, I’ll pick up the ingredients tomorrow and send them over to you.”

As soon as she finished speaking, Fu Qingze looked at her, “Isn’t your breakfast shop very close? Can’t I just go there and pick them up directly?”

Lin You lowered her head, “That would be too much trouble.”

Fu Qingze replied casually, “It’s no trouble, it’s on my way. I’ll be passing by your breakfast shop on my way home.”

Lin You said “Oh” and stumbled a little.

She was carrying too many things, most of which were fragile bowls and plates.

Because the bags were so large, she couldn’t see her feet, and accidentally tripped on a raised brick. She jerked the bags, and a crisp “clinking” sound came from them.

The sound made Lin You’s heart sink.

She hoped the bowls and plates hadn’t broken.

Just as she steadied herself, a slim, thin hand reached over and took several of the large bags from her hands.

After taking the bags, Fu Qingze still had a neutral expression, as if he wasn’t the one helping to share the load.

Lin You felt even more embarrassed and quickly said, “It’s alright, I’ll carry them. I just need to be more careful while walking.”

Fu Qingze didn’t give her a chance to grab the bags back and walked quickly with his long legs, “You’re not a big person, but you’re carrying quite a lot. If I don’t help you, at the pace you’re walking, when will you get back to the breakfast shop?”

Lin You gave a dry laugh.

She only had one small bag left, which was much lighter, so she hurried to catch up.

After walking for a while, Fu Qingze’s curiosity was piqued by the contents of the bag.

“What are you stocking up on?” Fu Qingze asked, puzzled.

Lin You explained, “Just some bowls and plates for the breakfast shop.”

Fu Qingze asked again, “Director Shang said your breakfast shop hasn’t been open for long. Your bowls and plates should still be new, why are you stocking up?”

Lin You thought for a moment. Since Director Shang had told him so much, he probably also knew about the continuous flow of ingredients into the breakfast shop.

So, she answered, “I want to upgrade the tableware to match the latest situation of the breakfast shop.”

Fu Qingze responded indifferently, “Oh, that’s good.”

Soon, the two arrived back at the breakfast shop.

Fu Qingze helped her put the large bags inside and opened the freezer to get the ingredients.

However, Lin You stopped him, “Wait, I’ll get it.”

Fu Qingze asked, “Why?”

Lin You explained, “These ingredients are specific to certain people. Or you can tell me what you need, and I’ll hand it to you.”

Fu Qingze finally furrowed his brows.

But it wasn’t because of Lin You. He was surprised by this.

He knew this breakfast shop was like a bottomless pit for ingredients, but he didn’t realize that these items could only be handled by Lin You.

He couldn’t help but sigh, “I’m really curious, what exactly did you do to make these vegetables listen to you?”

Lin You, who was just taking a cabbage out, said, “Actually, I’m curious too.”

Fu Qingze watched as she took out one vegetable after another. After a while, he pressed his right side, seeming to feel a bit uncomfortable, and couldn’t help but say, “This is indeed a good thing for Ancheng, but don’t you think it’s tiring to move these ingredients in and out of the freezer every day?”

Lin You had been moving things in and out for the past few days, and after carrying several heavy bags, her waist did feel sore.

But hearing Fu Qingze say this, she put down the vegetable in her hand, raised her eyes, and said, “But there’s no other way.”

Fu Qingze thought for a moment, then said:

“Since they listen to you so well, maybe you don’t need to be so tired.”

Lin You was stunned.

Fu Qingze’s expression finally loosened, and he smiled, “Haven’t you thought about it? If you give them orders, what do you think will happen?”

Lin You froze, “Give orders…?”

Fu Qingze glanced at the freezer, “Want to give it a try?”

Lin You swallowed, stood still, and tried saying something to the broccoli in the freezer.

But after waiting for two minutes, the broccoli remained perfectly still, with no movement at all.

Lin You let out a light sigh, “Looks like this doesn’t work…”

As soon as her voice fell, a “thumping” sound came from the freezer.

Lin You’s expression changed, and she looked down at the freezer.

She saw that the small broccoli was jumping around in the freezer.

Lin You blurted out, “This… this is incredible!”

The scene in front of her seemed like something Fu Qingze had already expected, “It really listens to you.”

Lin You, feeling curious, asked, “How did you know?”

Fu Qingze replied, “Just a guess. Otherwise, there’s no way to explain why, when others move the freezer, they shrink inside and refuse to come out.”

Lin You stared at the still-jumping broccoli, as if in a dream.

She rubbed her eyes, then looked again and said, “What if you try jumping out? Jump here, into my palm.”

Lin You stretched out her hand, about half a meter away from the freezer.

However, the broccoli seemed to have a delay and didn’t respond immediately. It always had to pause for a while.

After a few minutes, it finally stopped jumping, bounced out of the freezer, and leapt straight out.

However, this jump wasn’t very precise. It landed directly on the ground and stopped moving.

Lin You picked up the broccoli from the floor and placed it in her palm.

Suddenly, a strange feeling washed over her.

Fu Qingze immediately saw through her thoughts and comforted her:

“These vegetables probably don’t have consciousness. It’s likely your mental control that allows them to move. To give an example, it’s like you have magic and can manipulate a chopping board or a kitchen knife from a distance. But that doesn’t mean the chopping board or knife has consciousness.”

This explanation seemed reasonable, and Lin You nodded.

After a brief pause, he continued:

“Anyway, when you cook with them, you don’t have to worry about anything. As for moving the vegetables, you can make it easier. Just make a command and let them jump out on their own. Then you can load them onto a truck and transport them to other supermarkets. Leave the transportation to Shang Zhisheng.”

This naturally solved a major problem.

However, the speed at which the vegetables jumped out earlier was too slow.

So Lin You still had some concerns, “If it takes a few minutes to respond and then a few more minutes to act, and it takes half a day just to get one to jump out, it would be faster if I carried them myself.”

Fu Qingze smiled faintly, “With more training, they might get faster.”

Lin You replied, “…For now, I’ll carry them myself. Otherwise, it’ll take half an hour just to fill one bag.”

Fu Qingze stood up, picked two of each vegetable from what Lin You had taken out, and placed them into specialized bags.

These were for testing in his lab.

Compared to the ingredients Lin You had brought last time, the variety in the freezer was clearly much richer this time.

He couldn’t help but marvel inwardly, the breakfast shop was indeed extraordinary.

No wonder when he asked about the origin of the ingredients before, Lin You wasn’t very willing to talk about it.

If he hadn’t seen it with his own eyes, no one would believe it, and it would have been a waste of words.

Fu Qingze filled two large bags with the various vegetables.

After packing, he picked them up and said, “Quite heavy.”

Lin You just closed the freezer door and said, “It’s not close to your testing center, and it’s hard to get a cab. How about I drive you back?”

Fu Qingze replied, “It’s fine. I’ll drop these things off at home first. My place is quite close from here.”

Lin You nodded.

Just as Fu Qingze was about to leave, he suddenly remembered something and turned back:

“I’ll start the testing tomorrow, but the indicators are more detailed this time, so it might take longer. The results will probably come the day after tomorrow. I’ll let you and Shang Zhisheng know as soon as I have them.”
