Chapter 26: The Merman Quanyue
The fisherman was eager to make the deal, and Xiao Ranshu paid promptly. Lao Zhao and Zhao Tiezhu didn’t even have time to intervene before the transaction was completed in the blink of an eye.
The person inside the cage was somewhat surprised, a mix of excitement and fear in his expression.
He didn’t know what this woman intended to do with him after buying him…
Alchemy? Or to save him?
After completing the purchase, Xiao Ranshu turned to face the crowd.
As she moved, the corner of her veil was gently lifted by the breeze, revealing a glimpse of her face.
It was just a fleeting moment, too brief to see clearly.
But even that brief glimpse was enough to leave everyone present stunned.
What an astonishingly beautiful face it was!
The surroundings fell silent as Xiao Ranshu’s cool voice rang out: “Disperse.”
The people of this world didn’t understand albinism and mistook such individuals for demon beasts.
And it was hard to explain.
With so many eyes watching, it wasn’t convenient for her to release the person from the cage, as it could easily cause panic.
She hoped the onlookers would leave but wasn’t sure what to say.
Yet, as soon as those three words were spoken—
Whoosh!
The crowd scattered instantly, everyone returning to their homes. Even the fisherman packed up his nets and vanished in an instant, their compliance almost unbelievable.
Huh?
Xiao Ranshu was stunned.
She had been racking her brains over how to explain!
Once the streets had mostly cleared, Xiao Ranshu opened the cage and tossed a piece of clothing inside.
She said, “Cover yourself and get into the carriage to dress.”
The person inside the cage nodded gratefully, clutching the clothing to cover certain parts of his body before quickly exiting the cage and entering the carriage.
Lao Zhao stood nearby, unsure what to do: “Fairy, this…”
Zhao Tiezhu patted his father’s shoulder: “The Fairy must have her reasons.”
Lao Zhao said no more.
Not long after, the young man finished dressing and lifted a corner of the carriage curtain with a finger.
He seemed extremely timid, peeking out timidly with pink eyes filled with fear. His silver eyelashes fluttered, and tears welled up in his eyes but didn’t fall.
Xiao Ranshu glanced at him a few times and asked, “Do you have a name?”
The boy shook his head, his expression both frightened and aggrieved.
Looking at his snow-white skin and silver hair, Xiao Ranshu said, “I’ll give you a name. You’ll be called Quanyue.”
The boy nodded, a glimmer of light appearing in his eyes.
Xiao Ranshu continued, “I’ve bought you. From now on, you’ll be a servant in my household. Understand?”
She was well aware of the hierarchical system in this world and knew that managing subordinates required tact.
Kindness was good, but sometimes it could fuel greed.
Zhang Da Niang was exhausted from her daily chores, so buying a pretty servant to help with cleaning.
Hmm, this arrangement was simply perfect!
Quanyue nodded again, several times in a row.
Xiao Ranshu frowned and said coldly, “Speak.”
Quanyue was startled, his voice trembling with fear: “Understood, Quanyue.”
His voice was still androgynous, pleasant to hear.
But…
Was this person a fool?
Speaking in two-word bursts.
Xiao Ranshu introduced herself: “My name is Xiao Ranshu.”
Quanyue, afraid she might be displeased, immediately spoke: “Xiao…”
Xiao Ranshu interrupted him: “You must call me Master.”
Quanyue quickly corrected himself: “Master.”
So obedient!
Finally satisfied, Xiao Ranshu smiled and nodded: “Wait here. I’ll go buy some medicine for you.”
He was skinny and had a skin condition. She wasn’t sure if he could work, but he was good-looking, so she’d take him back and nurture him first.
With that, she closed the carriage curtain and headed toward a nearby shop.
There happened to be a medical clinic here, Xu Rentang.
However, she didn’t know that the moment the carriage curtain closed, Quanyue inside the carriage seemed to be frightened by some great terror. She immediately huddled in a corner of the carriage, trembling as she hugged her knees, casting a terrified glance in a certain direction outside the carriage.
It was the second floor of a teahouse by the street.
At this moment, the window of the teahouse was wide open, and a young man and woman were leaning on the windowsill, looking down.
The man appeared to be around twenty years old, dressed in an extravagant style, as if he had draped a rainbow over himself.
The woman had a baby face, looking no older than her teens, with her cheeks puffed up as she devoured flower cakes one after another.
These two were none other than Chi Xian and Si Wu.
Sitting across from them was a man in white, silently sipping tea.
“Haha!” Chi Xian laughed. “Hey, Ji Juexiu, she’s running around with your avatar, wearing Eternal Flame Incense in her hair, and now she’s even bought a Merman as a servant on the street! Aren’t you going to do something about it?”
Ji Juexiu didn’t respond, nor did he even glance at the Merman. He simply raised his teacup and took a sip.
Si Wu also remained silent, munching on tea snacks beside him, quickly finishing the entire table of pastries.
Meanwhile, inside the clinic.
Xiao Ranshu walked straight up to an old Chinese medicine practitioner.
The old doctor looked up at her, and when he saw the incense stick in her hair, his expression turned quite colorful.
“Are you here for a brain check or something else?” he asked.
Xiao Ranshu replied, “Skin disease. Do you have any ointment for skin that turns red and flakes when exposed to the sun?”
She didn’t know what psoriasis was called here, so she decided to ask first.
The doctor frowned. “Burning Disease? Are you a Warrior?”
Xiao Ranshu was stunned.
Good heavens, this world was so fantastical that even psoriasis could be linked to Warriors?
Seeing her silent, the doctor waved his hand and barked, “Let me check your pulse first!”
Xiao Ranshu initially wanted to refuse, but then she thought, who knows how the Original Owner died? What if there really was something wrong?
So she extended her hand.
The doctor took her pulse and let go after three seconds.
Xiao Ranshu asked, “Doctor, do I have any illness?”
The doctor stared at the incense in her hair and waved his hand dismissively. “Laziness!”
And there’s something wrong with your brain too!
Xiao Ranshu immediately felt relieved and even gave the doctor a thumbs-up.
Impressive! He could even diagnose her laziness through her pulse!
She continued to inquire about the ointment for skin disease.
The doctor began to grow impatient. “If you want high-level cultivation materials, go somewhere else. How could I possibly have them here? Are you here to cause trouble?”
Xiao Ranshu: “…”
Great, now it’s tied to cultivation again.
She stood up helplessly, pondering how to treat Quanyue’s illness.
But at that moment, a voice called out to her, “Please wait, esteemed guest.”
Xiao Ranshu stopped and turned around, seeing a middle-aged man descending from the second floor, holding a wooden box.
The old doctor quickly stood up to greet him. “Master Xu.”
The man waved his hand, signaling the old doctor to step aside. He approached Xiao Ranshu and said, “I am Xu ChengGen, the owner of Xu Rentang. May I ask for your esteemed name?”
He had witnessed the scene on the street from upstairs and was amazed by this woman’s extraordinary demeanor and stunning appearance.
Especially the incense stick in her hair!
It had been burning for so long, yet its length hadn’t changed in the slightest.
Xu ChengGen was a meticulous man, and after observing it for a long time, he couldn’t figure out what material it was made of.
This only reinforced his belief that this woman was no ordinary person!
With the intention of forming a favorable connection, he decided to come downstairs.
Xiao Ranshu politely replied, “Xiao Ranshu.”
Xu ChengGen cupped his hands and asked, “Is Lady Xiao planning to treat that white-haired young man?”
The Xu family had run a medical clinic for generations, so they were well aware of the many strange illnesses in the world.
White hair and red eyes were not unheard of.
Moreover, Xu ChengGen, being well-traveled and knowledgeable, knew that true demon beasts were hideous in appearance and could never resemble such a handsome young man.
Xiao Ranshu’s eyes lit up, “Yes.”
Xu ChengGen smiled and handed over a wooden box, “Lady Xiao, I happen to have what you seek. I am willing to gift you this ointment.”
