The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure
The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure Chapter 10: Stockpiling Medicine

The first sterile room had no zombies.

It was a room for storing injection equipment, with various types of IV drip sets, syringes of different sizes and specifications.

Lin Chu calculated the space needed for other supplies in her mind and then took 200 sets of both IV drips and syringes.

After taking the items, she went out and locked the door again.

The second sterile room contained medical cotton, dressings, bandages, masks, and other supplies.

For Lin Chu, these items were essential.

Although she had been careful along the way, minor abrasions were inevitable, and the world she would face in the future was still unknown. It was crucial to stock up on enough dressings and bandages.

Lin Chu took two boxes of each item.

The following sterile rooms contained injectables, vaccines, powdered needles, and some raw materials that needed to be kept sterile. Most importantly, there were surgical knives and various surgical instruments, which Lin Chu needed the most.

She carefully picked supplies from the sterile rooms without zombies.

As for the sterile rooms with zombies, Lin Chu decided not to go there. After all, anything stored there would likely have been contaminated after being exposed to zombies for a long time. Time was precious, and she still had supplies to gather from the six floors below, so she decided not to waste any more time here.

Lin Chu proceeded to the lower floors through the fire escape, as she had done earlier.

The noise she made earlier on the 8th floor, when a zombie hit the door, had attracted two zombies from the 9th and 10th floors’ fire escape. As soon as she opened the fire door, the two zombies lunged at her.

Fortunately, Lin Chu was prepared before opening the door and swiftly dealt with the two zombies, then stored them in her space and descended to the 7th floor.

The 7th floor was also a sterile room, laid out similarly to the 8th floor, and the types of goods were mostly the same, though it stored sterile medical supplies from different brands.

Lin Chu picked up items she hadn’t taken on the 8th floor due to zombie contamination, with the most valuable being the tetanus vaccine.

She had a 100% tetanus-inducing knife in her possession, and with the tetanus vaccine, it would be the perfect tool for both threats and persuasion.

She then moved on to the 6th floor.

This time, there was no strange sound attracting zombies. Lin Chu successfully scavenged the 6th and 5th floors.

From the disarray of the drugs inside, Lin Chu could tell that official personnel had come here to take medicine during the evacuation.

However, the original stock was too large, and the officials couldn’t take it all. Each floor still had dozens of boxes of medicine, which was more than enough for Lin Chu to gather.

These two floors stored many types of antibiotics. Lin Chu didn’t worry about the brands and, relying on her pharmaceutical knowledge, made sure to gather antibiotics targeting various bacteria and microorganisms.

The good news was that these medicines hadn’t expired. Once stored in her space, they would never expire and could be used immediately.

Due to limited space, Lin Chu mostly focused on broad-spectrum antibiotics, and for more targeted antibiotics, she took 10-20 boxes of each as needed.

Lin Chu looked at her previously empty waist pouch space, now gradually filling up with various medicines, and felt a strange sense of satisfaction.

In her previous world, she enjoyed preparing in advance and stockpiling survival supplies at home.

Stockpiling gave her a sense of calm and confidence, and after every big shopping trip, she felt a deep sense of fulfillment.

For example, right now, if she weren’t worried about attracting zombies, she would almost want to hum her favorite tunes with her imperfect singing.

The 4th floor was stocked with pain relievers, antipyretics, anti-inflammatory drugs, and other analgesics.

Lin Chu took some of each, including acetaminophen, ibuprofen, morphine, and aspirin, taking two large boxes of each.

Just as she was preparing to leave the 4th floor for the 3rd, she suddenly heard faint “beep” sounds echoing throughout the building.

Two seconds later, the lights came on.

Lin Chu felt a chill on top of her head.

Wind?

Looking up, she saw the central air conditioning system had resumed operation.

Also, the surveillance cameras in the corners of the walls had started working again.

Lin Chu immediately found a blind spot in the surveillance system and hid herself.

This was odd.

The power supply had been cut off long ago, and the entire city’s electricity grid had collapsed. How could there still be power?

Many possibilities flashed through Lin Chu’s mind, but only one seemed likely.

A backup power system?

As far as she knew, medical warehouses like this typically had backup power systems.

Some medicines needed to be stored at low temperatures, and to prevent losses from sudden power outages, warehouses often had diesel generators.

If someone activated the diesel generator, it would restore power to the entire building.

This meant there was someone else in the building, not just Lin Chu.

She had considered the possibility of a backup power system before but quickly dismissed it. It was too conspicuous.

She had come here quietly to gather supplies. If the power was restored, and the building lit up as the only power supply in the city, it would attract the attention of nearby survivors.

If someone came to fight for supplies, it would all be for nothing.

But now, who had the audacity—or enough confidence—to activate the backup power system?

Lin Chu’s mind flashed with images of that group of people.

Yes, they had gone to the underground parking garage near the 4th building, but the underground areas of the entire park were connected.

The parking garage near the 4th building was closest to the underground garage of the 8th building.

If their destination was the 8th building, it made perfect sense.

But why had they gone to such lengths to restore the power system? What was their destination?

Lin Chu’s gaze shifted to the display screen of the freight elevator.

As expected, it moved.

The freight elevator, which had been stationary on the 1st floor, suddenly descended and stopped at the -1 floor.

Lin Chu found cover near the fire escape and crouched down, keeping a close eye on the elevator’s display screen.

About a minute later, the elevator started moving up from the -1 floor.

It passed the 1st, 2nd floors…

When it passed the 4th floor, Lin Chu’s heart tightened for a moment. Then the elevator continued upward and stopped at the 10th floor.

The 10th floor was the laboratory.

Were they after something in the lab?

Lin Chu recalled the lip movements she had seen earlier.

“System, their mission is different from mine, right?”

As expected, the system didn’t reply.

“This shouldn’t be their first mission world, right?”

The system still didn’t answer, but Lin Chu hadn’t expected it to. She was just using the questions to help herself think.

Seeing they stopped on the 10th floor, Lin Chu turned and entered the fire escape, quickly heading for the 3rd floor.

Her space was nearly stocked with all the necessary types of medicine. She just needed to get some cold medicine, external wound treatment, and common OTC drugs, and that would be enough.

She didn’t know what the group was after on the 10th floor, but if there was something dangerous there, she needed to hurry.

When Lin Chu finished collecting the supplies from the 3rd floor and checked the elevator screen, it was still on the 10th floor.

A bold idea formed in her mind.
