The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure Chapter 11: Stirring Things Up

In Building 8’s warehouse, besides the two freight elevators, there was also one employee elevator, which was more concealed compared to the two freight elevators and required turning a corner to see.

The employee elevator required a keycard to access.

Coincidentally, Lin Chu had found a security guard’s keycard on a zombie in the fire escape.

Originally, the keycard wouldn’t have worked since the power was out, but Lin Chu had kept it, as it was a habit for her to always leave a backup in case of a future need.

She never expected to encounter a situation where the backup power system was restored.

She took the keycard and swiped it at the employee elevator’s card reader.

The green light flashed, and the elevator started moving.

The employee elevator, which had been on the first floor, began to ascend.

Lin Chu gripped her bone club in her right hand and positioned herself on the left side of the elevator.

The elevator stopped on the third floor, and the door opened.

Two employee zombies, wearing ID badges, staggered out. Lin Chu, who had been waiting nearby, swiftly took them out with two blows to the head.

Just like that, Lin Chu successfully used the employee elevator to reach the -1 floor.

The group of people had come up from the -1 floor, so the zombies near that area had already been cleared out.

The main function of the -1 floor was a parking garage, but there were also a few rooms set up as functional spaces.

Lin Chu carefully observed the layout, committing the path to memory, and soon she spotted the power distribution room.

Behind the power distribution room, there was a monitoring room.

Lin Chu, after seeing the monitoring room, paused for a moment before turning toward it.

She wanted to see what the people upstairs were doing.

The moment the door to the monitoring room opened, a zombie wearing a security uniform rushed out.

Lin Chu quickly dodged to the side and dealt with the zombie, then stored its body in her space before entering the monitoring room.

There were still security guard zombies inside the room, indicating that the group hadn’t visited the monitoring room.

This was in line with Lin Chu’s understanding of them.

They were narcissistic and arrogant, with an over-inflated sense of pride.

This was also why they had been caught back in the day.

The equipment in the monitoring room had been activated when the power system was restored, so Lin Chu could clearly see the surveillance footage for each floor.

Her eyes swiftly scanned the screens, and she soon found the footage for the tenth floor.

However, the main lobby and various laboratories on the tenth floor were empty, except for some scattered zombies in white lab coats lying on the floor.

Lin Chu’s thoughts shifted, and she adjusted the monitor to show the elevator entrance. She saw a tall, thin person from the group pushing a short, thin individual toward the elevator, with the rest of the group already inside.

Almost everyone, except the short person, was smiling, as if they had achieved their objective on the tenth floor.

They were preparing to go downstairs!

Realizing this, Lin Chu quickly turned and dashed into the power distribution room.

Inside was a large power distribution box she wasn’t familiar with, with labels and buttons she didn’t recognize.

But she knew diesel generators.

She quickly bypassed the power box and located the diesel generator, then unplugged the connecting wires.

“Click—”

The previously bright Building 8 was plunged back into complete darkness.

Lin Chu casually tossed the diesel generator into her space.

Although her shelter had water and electricity, a shelter was always a fixed location. Additionally, there was always a risk that the shelter might not be properly secured in every world.

If that day ever came, the diesel generator would be a crucial need.

What Lin Chu didn’t know was that the backup diesel generator in Building 8 had already been taken when the city’s official retreat happened.

The generator she had just taken was the one the group had brought with them.

Just after finishing this, Lin Chu heard loud banging and curses coming from the elevator shaft.

A faint smile tugged at her lips.

This was exactly the result she wanted.

Rather than having them lose power on the tenth floor, she preferred to trap them inside the elevator, where the doors would close, and then cut the power.

That way, the elevator would be stuck between two floors, and with a bit of luck, it would get stuck right in the middle, making it more difficult for them to rescue themselves.

The loud noise from the elevator shaft caused the surrounding zombies to become agitated and move toward the elevator shaft.

The rustling sounds reached Lin Chu’s ears, and she knew it was time to leave.

She quickly turned and dashed out.

Before entering, she had already planned her escape route.

The group might have been bold and skilled, and with their leader’s loud, attention-grabbing personality, they had left a trail of battle marks as they moved through the building.

Lin Chu only needed to follow their path to reach the underground parking lot exit near Building 4.

Thanks to the group’s efforts in clearing out the zombies from the entire floor, Lin Chu encountered little resistance along the way.

Occasionally, a zombie would rush up from the ground, but Lin Chu swiftly dealt with them by smashing their heads with her bone club, and then adding them to her dissecting team.

By the time she reached the underground parking lot entrance, she noticed many zombies heading toward Building 8.

She had no choice but to take a detour to the east side of Building 4, heading north to avoid the wave of zombies, and then cut through Building 2 to return to Building 6.

After the tumult of the night, the sky was beginning to brighten.

She didn’t encounter anyone else along the way, and Lin Chu finally made it back to her shelter.

The tension in her mind loosened only once she returned to this completely safe space of her own.

After a whole night of exhaustion, Lin Chu didn’t bother changing her blood- and sweat-stained clothes. She collapsed into a corner, and she was immediately engulfed by a heavy drowsiness.

Her sleep was very restless.

In her dream, she saw the woman with the scratched face lying in a cold morgue.

Just as Lin Chu approached to dissect her, the lifeless woman suddenly sat up, transforming into the deranged killer, who grabbed her hand.

Lin Chu struggled but couldn’t break free from his grasp. As she saw him raise a knife to strike her face, she suddenly grabbed a hard object from the corner, tightened her grip, and struck him in the head.

Blood exploded in front of her, but the one who fell was a grayish-white zombie.

She wanted to collect the zombie’s body, but when she reached out, it transformed into a piglet, its belly oozing dark red blood.

“Lin Zhaodi, I will kill you!”

Lin Chu turned around and saw that disgusting face.

She jolted awake, her head hitting the wall, causing intense pain. She slowly opened her eyes.

Before her were rough white walls, an empty corridor, and a simple iron bed.

She curled up in the corner, gripping her bone club, which was stained with red and white liquids. Her knuckles turned pale from gripping it too hard.

Lin Chu loosened her grip, pinched her nose bridge with her free left hand, and glanced at the system’s time.
