This was the first time Lin Chu carefully examined the vending machine.
The vending machine was not large. It had a single door, less than 2 meters tall, about 1 meter long, and about 0.5 meters wide.
The glass on the outside had already shattered, and the items on the surface had all been emptied out.
The vending machine had six shelves in total. The lower five had eight racks each, while the top shelf had four racks. It looked like the bottom five shelves were used to store drinks, while the top shelf was meant for bread, snacks, and other dry food.
At the bottom was the product outlet. Lin Chu pushed it open and unexpectedly found two bottles of water and a box of biscuits.
The biscuits were expired, but the water was still within its shelf life.
Lin Chu placed the two bottles of water in her space and left the biscuits in the vending machine.
She remembered seeing staff restock vending machines in her original world, and these machines were stocked from the back.
She turned the machine around, only to find that the restocking door was covered in scratches.
Someone had pried open the door.
As expected, the items inside were all gone.
Such a large machine, and all that was left were the two bottles of water and a box of biscuits in the outlet.
However, Lin Chu didn’t feel discouraged.
The vending machine had a cooling function. After she fixed it up, it could still be used as a fridge. It would be a good choice for chilling some milk tea or milk.
She quickly composed herself and placed her hand on the vending machine.
A flash of white light passed.
Apart from the broken glass, the vending machine returned to its original state, with no significant changes.
If there was any change, it was that the expired biscuits, which had originally been in the product outlet, were now placed on the top shelf.
Lin Chu glanced at the string of text that appeared in her mind:
[Item: Vending Machine
Rarity: D
Item Description: A regular vending machine with a cooling function, but it consumes a lot of power.]
Just… plain and unremarkable.
Lin Chu had long known that the skill’s drop rate was unstable, so she accepted the result calmly.
After all, it wasn’t a loss. It was like getting a fridge for free, and she could have some cold water in the future.
The power consumption wasn’t a big deal, since her shelter had both water and electricity.
Thinking of this, Lin Chu immediately opened the vending machine’s restocking door and placed a few bottles of water, milk tea, and milk inside.
Once the cold drinks were chilled, she would store them in her space and have cold water readily available next time she was outside.
As for the vending machine, it was too big. Lin Chu couldn’t keep it in her shelter for long. Once it finished its job, she would just put it back in her space.
After finishing these tasks, Lin Chu checked the system time:
22:54
It was getting late, but she was preoccupied with things in her mind. Instead of rushing to sleep, she stayed by the door, pulling out a “one-shot” from the convenience store raid.
Since she was idle, she planned to modify this “tool” following the renovation videos she’d seen online.
While thinking about how to modify the one-shot, she heard a faint noise outside the door.
Lin Chu moved closer to the peephole and saw a girl with twin ponytails, sweating profusely, dragging three zombie corpses inside.
Worried about her progress on the points, Lin Chu set down what she was holding and opened the door.
The girl with twin ponytails jumped in shock at the sound and immediately dropped the zombie corpses. She quickly drew a kitchen knife from her waist to defend herself.
“It’s me.”
Lin Chu lowered her voice. When the girl with the twin ponytails saw her, she let out a long sigh of relief. Then, embarrassed, she looked at the kitchen knife in her hand and quickly put it behind her.
“Y-You, you’re here. I thought it was someone else…”
Lin Chu waved her hand dismissively.
“In this world, being cautious is a good thing.” She glanced at the three zombie corpses on the floor. “How’s your progress?”
The girl with the twin ponytails followed her gaze to the zombies, biting her lip and smiling bitterly.
“Points are really hard to accumulate. One zombie only gives about 2-3 points, and the system has high requirements. If I accidentally destroy a limb or an arm, they won’t accept it.”
“I’ve been killing zombies and dismembering them for submission. The most I can submit in a day is seven.”
Seven zombies a day, with each zombie giving 3 points, would total 21 points per day. After five days, that would be at most 105 points, assuming she could achieve the maximum.
Lin Chu could tell from the girl’s bitter smile that the actual number was probably even lower.
She probably needed to apply an 80% discount.
But the system’s security door required 150 points.
If the seven-day newbie protection period passed and the girl with twin ponytails hadn’t accumulated 150 points, she would face the risk of being kicked out of the shelter.
They both knew very well what being kicked out of the shelter meant.
Lin Chu pondered for a moment before speaking.
“I have a way to increase your efficiency and help you gather 150 points before the newbie protection period ends.”
The girl with twin ponytails’ eyes lit up at those words.
“You’ll help me?”
“I can help you, but I have one condition.”
