Chapter 10: Relationship Status

A sliver of light seeped through the curtains, casting onto the pristine white sheets. Shang Zhu opened his eyes, his hand instinctively reaching forward, but the bed was warm, yet empty.

Wen Shuyan wasn’t in bed, and Shang Zhu reacted after half a second, sitting up abruptly.

“Yes, I know.”

A slightly husky voice sounded behind Shang Zhu, who twisted around, only to find Wen Shuyan leaning against the table, talking on the phone, toying with a ring in his hand, his expression satisfied and lazy.

Shang Zhu listened quietly for a while and realized that Wen Shuyan was requesting leave from headquarters. He tiptoed over, clad in slippers, and wrapped his arms around Wen Shuyan, nuzzling and pecking him.

Wen Shuyan couldn’t talk on the phone for too long, as Shang Zhu’s insistence led to an early conclusion.

He caressed Shang Zhu’s cheeks, ruffling his messy hair, and asked, “Want to sleep a little longer?”

Shang Zhu shook his head, rubbing his nose against Wen Shuyan’s jawline and neck. “Wife, they’re talking outside again, saying I snatched your project.”

“Did you?” Wen Shuyan chuckled, lowering his head to slip the ring onto his ring finger.

The ring was a plain white gold band, with no decorations on the top surface, slightly larger in size, fitting loosely on his ring finger.

“I didn’t,” Shang Zhu glanced at the plain ring on Wen Shuyan’s hand, quickly changing his tone. “But they don’t know about our relationship.”

Despite being in a relationship for so many years, having to act unfamiliar when encountering his own wife outside and even hiding their hand-holding, once or twice could be considered a game, but doing it repeatedly was unpleasant.

Shang Zhu didn’t want to continue like this. He wanted to stand proudly by Wen Shuyan’s side as his lover.

“Wife, give me a status,” he said, sounding aggrieved, as if he wasn’t the one who went crazy last night.

Wen Shuyan found it amusing and reached out to grab Shang Zhu’s hand.

Following his movement, Shang Zhu raised his hand, their fingertips meeting. Wen Shuyan lifted his wrist slightly, causing the oversized ring on his ring finger to slide toward Shang Zhu, landing steadily on his finger.

Wen Shuyan slid the ring onto Shang Zhu’s ring finger, turning the diamond-studded side upwards, and joked while kissing him, “Locked.”

“I just got it yesterday. If you had come a little earlier, I wouldn’t have had a ring to give you.”

The previously empty ring finger was now adorned with a diamond ring, the white gold band carrying the warmth of Wen Shuyan. The five-carat Radiant-cut diamond on the face of the ring sparkled under the spotlight, emitting a dazzling light.

It was only at this moment that Shang Zhu noticed a similarly designed diamond ring on Wen Shuyan’s left ring finger.

He remained silent for a long time, so long that Wen Shuyan started to worry.

“Shang Zhu?”

A tear fell onto Wen Shuyan’s hand as he spoke, scalding his heart.

“What’s wrong? Is it too informal?” Wen Shuyan cupped Shang Zhu’s face, wiping away the tears from the corner of his eyes, planting comforting kisses on his forehead.

“I’ll propose again, don’t cry.”

Shang Zhu held Wen Shuyan’s hand with the ring, sniffing as he choked up, “Wife, let’s get married.”

That afternoon, at 5:00 PM New York time, Shang Zhu, who usually only posted work-related content on social media, shared a four-grid photo set:

【Shiny Big Diamond Ring】【Marriage Certificate】【College Roommates Eating Hotpot】【Wen Shuyan Nuzzling】

Caption: My wife gave me a status.

This photo set was like a thunderbolt out of the blue, causing a commotion in Shang Zhu’s social circle.

Friend A: ?

Classmate B: Huh??

Assistant C: …You?

Relative D: Damn? Who are you with??

Business partner E: You and Leeds’ Wen were a couple?!!

Secretary F: Am I also part of your play?

Comments flooded Shang Zhu’s social media, and his private messages were blowing up. He replied to a few selectively.

“Shang Zhu,” Wen Shuyan called from a distance, “Come take a picture.”

The sunset’s intense orange hues painted the sky, and Wen Shuyan, dressed in a white suit, held flowers, smiling gently as he waved to Shang Zhu.

“Coming.” Shang Zhu activated the “Do Not Disturb” mode and strode towards him.

End of the story.
