Chapter 7 Selling a House
After finishing her meal at the state-run restaurant, Jiang Li ordered several more dishes and twenty large meat buns to take away. Her spatial storage not only had storage capabilities but also preservation capabilities, so the food wouldn’t spoil, no matter how long it stayed inside. Having eaten her fill, Jiang Li proceeded to sell the house left by her maternal grandfather. After inquiring, she found a small-time gangster in Beijing.
Selling the house to someone like this would prevent the Jiang family from causing further trouble. Given the Jiang family’s shameless nature, even if Jiang Li sold the house, they would likely still harass the buyer. But by finding someone with some power, the Jiang family would be dealt with severely if they dared to cause trouble.
After Jiang Li mentioned selling the house, the gangster, known as Brother Long, said he needed to go with her to the machinery factory’s apartment complex to see the house. They needed to see the size of the house before making an offer. Jiang Li took Brother Long and his men to the machinery factory’s apartment complex.
Seeing Jiang Li with several thugs, Jiang Wenjun was curious. “Who are you? What do you want? Get out of my house!” Jiang Wenjun didn’t dare to confront Jiang Li but yelled at Brother Long and his men. Brother Long frowned and said to Jiang Wenjun, “Your daughter said this house is hers and wants to sell it to me.
” Brother Long’s words shocked Jiang Wenjun and the others. Xia Meifeng screamed and asked Jiang Li, “Jiang Li, you want to sell the house? Where will we live?” Jiang Li sneered at Xia Meifeng’s question. “Where you live is none of my business. This house was left to me by my grandfather, so I have the right to dispose of it.” Jiang Wenjun, having been beaten by Jiang Li several times, was still afraid of her, but hearing that the house they lived in was going to be sold, his anger overwhelmed his fear.
He yelled at Jiang Li, “Jiang Li, how can you do this? No matter what, I’m your father. Are you going to leave me homeless? How can you be so heartless?” Jiang Li sneered, “You still remember you’re my father? I haven’t seen you act like a father all these years. I don’t recognize a father like you. I’ll publicly announce our severance of ties; where you go is none of my business.” Jiang Li didn’t want to have anything to do with Jiang Wenjun and didn’t want to be morally blackmailed by such a scumbag father.
Hearing that Jiang Li wanted to publicly sever ties, Jiang Wenjun felt a sharp pain in his head. Jiang Wan pointed at Jiang Li and yelled, “Jiang Li, you can’t be so heartless. No matter what, your father raised you. You can’t treat him like this.” Jiang Li was furious at Jiang Wan’s words. Look, this family was asking for another beating. Jiang Li slapped Jiang Wan. “I told you to shut up, Jiang Wan.
This is none of your business.” Jiang Wan screamed in pain. Hearing the commotion, many neighbors came to watch. Xia Meifeng kept her distance from Jiang Li and then started crying in front of the neighbors, trying to morally blackmail Jiang Li. “Waaah, Jiang Li doesn’t want us to live. No matter what, Wenjun is her father. We raised her, and now she wants to sell the house and leave us homeless.
” After Xia Meifeng finished crying, Jiang Wenjun said, “Jiang Li, there are no bad parents in the world. Even if I haven’t done well in some aspects, I’m your father. You can’t sell the house and leave us without a place to live.” Seeing their shamelessness, Jiang Li retorted, “Jiang Wenjun, I said I’m severing ties with you. Your family’s affairs are none of my business. Don’t talk about raising me. These years, I’ve been serving your whole family like a maid.
This house was left to me by my grandfather; I can do whatever I want with it.” The neighbors understood Jiang Li. Jiang Wenjun and Xia Meifeng were so vicious; it was normal for Jiang Li to sever ties with them.
The neighbors didn’t support Jiang Wenjun and Xia Meifeng; instead, they condemned their shamelessness. Why should they live in the house left by Factory Director Chen for Jiang Li? Did they think it was theirs just because they had lived there for so long? Regardless of what others said, Jiang Li was determined to sell the house.
Seeing that no one was helping them and that they couldn’t beat Jiang Li, Jiang Wenjun and Xia Meifeng could only watch helplessly. After Jiang Li and Brother Long inspected the house, Brother Long offered a price. “Little girl, I’ll offer 3000 yuan. Are you willing to sell?” 3000 yuan was a lot, but Jiang Li thought it was too cheap for a Beijing property. If she wasn’t trying to avoid letting Jiang Wenjun’s family benefit, she would have kept it and waited for it to appreciate in value. Jiang Li hesitated.
“Brother Long, you saw the house; it’s big and well-designed. Add some more. If you offer 3500, we’ll go through the procedures now.” Brother Long thought the price was too high; 500 yuan was a lot. Seeing Brother Long hesitate, Jiang Li whispered in his ear, “Brother Long, hasn’t your mother been experiencing chest tightness, shortness of breath, and discomfort lately? Has she been having nightmares?” Brother Long looked at Jiang Li in surprise.
He didn’t know how she knew this, as he hadn’t mentioned it to anyone. Jiang Li smiled. “Brother Long, I don’t mean anything else. Your mother has been afflicted by evil spirits. This is an exorcism talisman. Give it to her, and it will work immediately.
” Brother Long saw the talisman Jiang Li gave him and inexplicably believed her. “Okay, I’ll take the talisman. Little girl, 3500 yuan for the house.” If the talisman worked, Brother Long was willing to pay the extra 500 yuan.
They went to the factory and quickly completed the transfer procedures. Brother Long paid Jiang Li 3500 yuan immediately. Even after spending several hundred yuan today, she still had a lot of money. Jiang Li put the money away and said to Brother Long, “Brother Long, I’m going to the countryside in a few days.
Can I stay in the house for a few days before I leave?”
