The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure Chapter 28 – Organizing

[Host, after the task world settlement, the shelter can be upgraded using points.]

[Upgrading the shelter will increase its size and unlock more functions.]

The upgrade could only be done after the settlement.

It was only the ninth day. According to the mission rules, she had to survive in this task world for thirty days.

In other words, if she wanted to expand the shelter, she would have to wait another twenty-one days.

“How many points are needed to upgrade the shelter?”

The system was still as unfeeling as ever. Lin Chu had grown used to it avoiding any important questions with a curt “no comment.” She was mentally prepared.

Hearing the response, she simply shrugged, not showing any emotion.

There were still 21 days before the shelter could be upgraded, and she had no idea how many points it would cost.

Lin Chu didn’t dare pin her hopes on that. All she could do now was tidy up the limited space she had.

She stored all the food in her personal space. The shelves were now reserved for daily necessities and clean clothes.

After tidying up the room, Lin Chu finally pulled out Ma Yan’s leather bracelet.

It was an ordinary brown suede-woven bracelet.

Because of last night’s scuffle with Dacheng, the woven knots had started to loosen.

But the space was still usable.

Holding the bracelet and focusing on the thought of space, she could see the contents stored inside it.

The space within the bracelet wasn’t very large—about the same size as the 2×2×2-meter compartment she had initially unlocked in the system’s backpack.

It was clear that the space had been carefully organized.

On the left were several vertically stored weapons. Besides the machete and axe she’d already seen, there was a finely crafted crossbow, along with daggers, small knives, and other close-combat tools.

It looked like he had once cleaned out a weapons shop for free.

Next to the weapons were four large boxes stacked two by two, filled with energy drinks and compressed biscuits—items that could quickly replenish energy and provide satiety.

On top of these boxes was a small flat case, about the size of a 13-inch carry-on. Inside were neatly arranged nutrient packs.

Lin Chu counted them—30 vials of nutritional fluid.

In addition, there were essentials for overnight stays outdoors: a tent, sleeping bags, heat patches, lanterns, and matches.

Along the side were two deflated inflatable boats, two large water barrels, and two oil drums filled with diesel.

This reminded Lin Chu of the time she had tricked Ma Yan and brought back that diesel generator.

Now that she thought about it, that generator probably belonged to Ma Yan.

Shifting her attention away from the diesel, Lin Chu noticed two diving suits and a row of oxygen tanks.

She counted—ten tanks in total.

Aside from these categorized items, there were also miscellaneous small items piled in a corner. They were probably things Ma Yan had collected temporarily and hadn’t yet sorted.

After a thorough inspection, Lin Chu realized Ma Yan’s space was mostly stocked with outdoor survival supplies.

Clearly, he had considered the possibility of the shelter being destroyed and had prepared accordingly.

Now, all of these resources belonged to Lin Chu, making her significantly wealthier.

She tested the space with a still-warm bowl of river snail rice noodle soup and discovered that Ma Yan’s bracelet space did not have a time-freezing feature.

Put in at 3:30 PM, the soup was cold when taken out at 4:30 PM.

Compared to her own space pearl, which had time suspension, Ma Yan’s bracelet wasn’t particularly impressive.

After all, the space was small and its functions limited. For someone like Lin Chu, who already had two storage spaces, this bracelet might be useful as backup, but it didn’t add much in terms of capabilities.

If she ever had the chance to trade it for something with a better function to improve her chances of survival, she was willing to use it as a bargaining chip.

With that in mind, she transferred all the items from the bracelet into her own space, leaving the bracelet empty.

Once everything was organized, Lin Chu stored the shelf against the wall into her space as well, clearing an area to start basic physical training.

With limited space, she could only do simple exercises that didn’t require much room—like high knees and jumping jacks.

But determined to improve her physical fitness, Lin Chu extended her training. From cardio to strength workouts, she spent three full hours.

Drenched in sweat, she went into the bathroom, cleaned herself up, changed into a fresh set of patient clothes, and lay down on the bed feeling refreshed.

If she ignored the zombies outside, the day had felt like a lazy, relaxing weekend—doing housework, working out, then reading a book before bed.

A peaceful and ordinary day.

But for people like her who had been thrown into the mission world, peace and normalcy were luxuries.

Lin Chu pulled out the phone she had brought with her into this world.

After nine days, the phone was, of course, out of battery.

Though the shelter had electricity, she didn’t have a charger.

She planned to check the office area upstairs when she had time to see if there was a compatible charger. If she could power it up, the movies and books she had downloaded before might help kill some time.

For now, with nothing to entertain her, Lin Chu could only sleep.

She was severely sleep-deprived these past few days, and after sweating so much just now, she quickly drifted off.

But this time, her sleep was far from peaceful.

A string of nightmares kept her in a state of semi-consciousness.

She was only fully awakened by a noise outside the door.

It wasn’t loud—someone was deliberately speaking in a low voice.

But because Lin Chu was already sleeping uneasily, even that small noise was enough to pull her from her nightmares.

Glancing at the time—it was 11 PM. She’d slept for more than three hours again.

With groggy eyes, she approached the peephole and looked outside. She saw Yu Hongfei standing outside the bathroom with four zombie corpses, while Zheng Ziyu stood guard in front of the door with a large cleaver, eyeing him warily.

Seeing that her two teammates were about to have a conflict, Lin Chu didn’t dare waste time. While tousling her messy hair, she opened the door and walked out.

Hearing the sound, both of them looked over. Seeing Lin Chu come out wearing patient clothes, both froze.

Then Zheng Ziyu immediately stepped sideways, like a mother hen protecting her chick, spreading her arms to shield Lin Chu behind her, blocking Yu Hongfei’s view.

Yu Hongfei scratched his head helplessly.

“I told you, I’m really not a bad guy. Lin Chu can vouch for me.”

Zheng Ziyu looked at Lin Chu, who nodded.

“He’s also a task participant working with me. We rescued him from Ma Yan and his group yesterday. He’s not a bad guy.”

Hearing Lin Chu’s words, Zheng Ziyu finally sheathed the cleaver behind her waist, though her eyes still held wariness as she looked at Yu Hongfei.

Yu Hongfei didn’t seem bothered by the suspicion. He smiled and pointed at the floor.

“Lin Chu, I brought you some zombies.”
