Chapter 57: Black Market Selling Goods
The saying goes, “Don’t anger the captain.” Liu Yulan, while not bright, wasn’t stupid. Still, she was envious of Jiang Li’s trades. Jiang Li kept 20 jin of wolf meat for consumption and decided to air-dry the rest for preservation. For dinner, Jiang Li cooked wolf meat. It was delicious and had a chewy texture.
Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong ate heartily. After dinner, Jiang Li washed up and cultivated. Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong, under the cover of night, after everyone in the educated youth center was asleep, took five jin of wolf meat to the bullpen.
They found Lin Cheng and Zhang Jing eating wolf meat. They ate late at night to avoid attracting attention. Seeing Lin Cheng and Zhang Jing eating wolf meat, Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong were surprised. Lin Cheng greeted them and asked, “What brings you here?” He had warned them not to visit often due to their sensitive situation.
Mu Jingxun held up the meat, “Teacher, we were going to give you some wolf meat, but you already have some. Where did you get it?” Lin Cheng explained, “I encountered some wolves in the mountains. I thought I was going to die, but then a young girl appeared…” Before he finished, Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong guessed it was Jiang Li, who had carried several wolves back.
Only she possessed that kind of fighting ability. They listened silently. Lin Cheng’s description further impressed them. Last time, she’d used a cleaver against wild boars; now, she used only her fists. Lin Cheng praised Jiang Li, “That girl is amazing. Her name is Jiang Li. You know her, right? She’s an educated youth who arrived with you.” Mu Jingxun replied, “Teacher, we know her. She’s our current dining partner.
We’ve benefited greatly from her.” Lin Cheng looked at them closely. Unlike other educated youths who had become thin and haggard, these two were healthier and more robust. They seemed to be doing well.
Relieved, he chatted with them for a while before they left the five jin of wolf meat. After Mu Jingxun and Bai Ziyong returned, Jiang Li retracted the spiritual threads she had placed on them.
After cultivating, she went to sleep, preparing for her trip to the county town. The next morning, after breakfast, Jiang Li went to see the captain to ask for leave. Li Changping, still grateful for the wolf meat, readily granted her leave. Jiang Li had a bicycle, making the trip convenient.
She arrived in Anfeng County quickly and started looking for the black market, using her divination skills. She found Lu Feng, the biggest black market dealer in Anfeng County. He was known for paying fair prices. Jiang Li found Lu Feng and used a transformation spell to alter her appearance.
Lu Feng saw an ordinary young girl. He asked, “Little girl, what do you want to sell?” Jiang Li said, “Meat.” Lu Feng was interested. “What kind of meat? How much?” Jiang Li listed her inventory: “A large black bear, about 300-400 jin. Two wild goats, I don’t know the weight. Several wild chickens and rabbits.
Oh, and a 300-jin wild boar…” Lu Feng was shocked. This girl had so much meat. They discussed prices. Jiang Li wasn’t worried about being cheated; she used divination to assess Lu Feng’s trustworthiness.
He was honest. He offered a fair price, even slightly higher than usual, showing generosity towards her. Jiang Li was pleased with her choice of business partner.
