Chapter 60: Find a powerful master of metaphysics

After examining Lu An, Dr. Wu diagnosed the “cause” but seemed hesitant to explain.  Lu Rong anxiously asked, “Dr. Wu, is my nephew’s condition serious? Is there a chance of recovery?” Dr. Wu said, “It’s not convenient to discuss this here.  Could we speak privately?” Lu Rong, sensing the severity, agreed, “Yes, let’s talk privately. I’ll have everyone leave.

” She dismissed everyone from the examination room and had someone guard the door.  Alone with Dr. Wu, Lu Rong asked, “Doctor, what’s wrong with my nephew? Is it poisoning or something else? Is there a cure?” Dr. Wu calmed her, “Madam Lu, please remain calm. What I’m about to say is sensitive and might sound unbelievable.

If you trust me, try my suggestion. If not, just forget what I said.” Lu Rong nodded, “Go ahead.” “Madam Lu, your nephew’s illness isn’t ordinary; he’s been afflicted by an evil spirit.  The only TCM cure is lost.

My master knew it, but he’s passed away. I haven’t mastered that skill. To save your nephew, you must find a powerful spiritual master within three days. Otherwise, his life is in danger.” Lu Rong was stunned. She understood why Dr. Wu hadn’t spoken in front of others.

Superstition was frowned upon; he could have been reported.  She believed him but wondered how her nephew had attracted an evil spirit.

How could she find a master within three days, especially with the current crackdown on superstition?  Powerful masters were likely in hiding.  She could only use her husband’s and family’s connections.

“Okay, Doctor Wu, I understand. I’ll do my best.” Dr. Wu nodded, “I’ll give him an acupuncture treatment to stabilize his condition temporarily; otherwise, he won’t survive the day.  You must find a master within three days; after that, I can’t help.” Lu Rong agreed, “I’ll find someone immediately.

Please stabilize his condition.” She planned to contact her family to find a master.  Before she left the hospital, a young woman stopped her. Lu Rong asked, “Young lady, do you need something? I’m in a hurry.”  Jiang Li, lowering her voice, asked, “Madam, are you looking for a master to treat your nephew?” Lu Rong was surprised, “How… how did you know?” Only she and Dr. Wu were present, and her guards were outside.

Jiang Li smiled, “Madam Lu, I divined it. If you trust me, I can help. Otherwise, you might not find anyone in time. Many are frauds; true masters are unlikely to be active now.” Lu Rong didn’t think she was malicious but was wary. Could she be trying to harm her nephew? Lu An’s condition could have been caused by someone.

She couldn’t trust anyone easily.  Lu Rong, after considering, said, “Thank you for your kindness, but I can’t trust you yet.  Leave your contact information. If I can’t find anyone, I’ll contact you.” Jiang Li understood.

She nodded, “As you wish.” She wrote down her name and address on a slip of paper and gave it to Lu Rong.
