Chapter 76 Becoming a Village Doctor

“Woohoo, Weimin…” Grandma Yu sobbed, “Weimin, Mother doesn’t blame you. It’s not your fault. Don’t worry; Mother will take care of herself and Lei Lei.” Yu Weimin stood up, “Mother, it’s good that you don’t blame me.

I can rest easy now.”  With his final attachment gone, Yu Weimin’s soul transformed into a golden light and dissipated.  Seeing her son’s soul appear and disappear, Grandma Yu knew she would never see him again. Tears welled up in her eyes, and she cried uncontrollably. Jiang Li approached Grandma Yu, patting her hand, “Grandma Yu, don’t cry. You should be happy for your son. He has merit; his next life will be good.

Lingering here only delayed him; reincarnation is his best destination.”  Grandma Yu, comforted by Jiang Li, gradually calmed down. Her son had suffered a lot in this life. If he could have a good next life, it would be a reward for his hardships. Grandma Yu wasn’t foolish. She knew she had seen her son because of Jiang Li’s abilities and was even more grateful.  She wouldn’t tell anyone about today’s events.

She didn’t know where Jiang Li learned her skills, but she knew she had to keep this secret.  Reporting such things could have serious consequences. Grandma Yu thanked Jiang Li again. Jiang Li took two bowls of soybean paste back. The paste was delicious and perfect for dipping bread or steamed buns.

The news of Lei Lei’s rapid recovery spread quickly through the production team.  Many people hadn’t believed Jiang Li could treat illnesses, but seeing that she had cured Grandma Yu’s grandson, they realized she wasn’t bragging.

Li Changping was thrilled and asked Jiang Li if she would be the village doctor. If Jiang Li agreed, she wouldn’t have to work in the fields; the brigade would provide her work points.

Other village doctors received the same treatment—the brigade provided work points in exchange for medical services.  Being a doctor was much easier than working in the fields.  Jiang Li, after considering Li Changping’s hopeful gaze, finally agreed.

Being a doctor was more convenient for her; it allowed her to go to the mountains more often. She could use this as an excuse to go to the mountains daily for cultivation and collect precious herbs.  Li Changping and the team members were excited that the Victory Production Brigade now had a village doctor.

Li Changping generously arranged a room in the brigade headquarters for Jiang Li as a medical clinic.  He also provided simple furniture—a table, chairs, and a small bed. He planned to request common medicines from the commune, though obtaining enough would be difficult due to shortages.

The herbs would mainly come from Jiang Li’s mountain trips. Jiang Li didn’t mind; she needed to go to the mountains anyway. Seeing that Jiang Li had become the village doctor and wouldn’t have to work in the fields, many educated youths were envious. Being a doctor was much easier.  Unfortunately, they didn’t have Jiang Li’s skills.  Liu Yulan, realizing Jiang Li’s medical abilities, regretted provoking her.

If she had let Jiang Li treat her injuries, she would have saved a lot of money.  The treatment at the clinic had cost ten yuan—enough to buy a lot of grain.  The more she thought about it, the more painful it became.

Sun Wenwen’s resentment and jealousy towards Jiang Li reached a peak when Jiang Li became the village doctor. Why wasn’t Jiang Li punished? Why was she doing so well? Mu Jingxun and Bai Zirong were genuinely happy for Jiang Li. Mu Jingxun thought that Jiang Li, a delicate girl, wasn’t suited for hard labor in the fields.

Being a doctor was a better fit. A few days after Jiang Li became the village doctor, Sun Wenwen’s wedding arrived.

Aunt Guihua wanted a decent wedding for her son.  She bought Sun Wenwen two new clothes, but there was no dowry.  On the wedding day, the female educated youths helped Sun Wenwen with her makeup.  It was the most important day of her life.

Sun Wenwen, about to marry Li Ermazi, was reluctant and didn’t want to dress up. But remembering that Mu Jingxun would be there, she decided to look her best, hoping to attract his attention. Jiang Li wouldn’t participate in Sun Wenwen’s preparations, but she would attend the wedding feast.

Since Sun Wenwen was marrying from the educated youth center, the educated youths would act as her family, and the brigade leader gave everyone a day off. Mu Jingxun and Bai Zirong casually asked, “Sister Li, are we going to Li Ermazi’s wedding feast?” Mu Jingxun instinctively said, “We don’t have a good relationship with Sun Zhiqing. There’s no need to join the festivities.

We’re all returned educated youths, but we don’t have to attend her wedding.” But Jiang Li smirked, “Yes, why not? We can get a free meal. The food at the wedding feast will be good.” Bai Zirong didn’t understand, “Sister Li, we have to give gifts.

How can it be considered free?” “We do have to give gifts, but there’s no set amount.  We can give a small amount and still get a good meal. It’s a good deal.” Hearing Jiang Li, Mu Jingxun and Bai Zirong realized she was right and smirked. Jiang Li was indeed shrewd; they were too naive.  They decided to attend the wedding feast.

The thought of a good meal made them excited.
