Chapter 77 Sun Wenwen gets married

Early in the morning, Li Ermazi’s family bustled about with preparations. Li Ermazi dressed in new clothes, though his ugliness remained unchanged, even in fine attire.  He went to the educated youth center to pick up the bride.  While he preferred Jiang Li, he was content with Sun Wenwen. She was a city girl, and many rural men envied him. Li Ermazi entered the educated youth center with a smug look.

 Jiang Li and the others watched from the doorway.  Upon seeing Jiang Li, Li Ermazi gave her a wink. Jiang Li almost vomited; he was delusional about his attractiveness. She turned to Mu Jingxun to improve her mood. Compared to Li Ermazi, Mu Jingxun was incredibly handsome. Li Ermazi, ignored by Jiang Li, felt disheartened.

 He wished he could marry Jiang Li; she was beautiful and skilled, ensuring a comfortable life. Mu Jingxun noticed Li Ermazi’s intentions towards Jiang Li and his gaze turned cold.  He wouldn’t let Li Ermazi get away with it. Li Ermazi shifted his attention to Sun Wenwen’s room, shouting, “Wenwen, I’m here to get you.

” Sun Wenwen, sitting on the bed, felt nauseous at the sound of Li Ermazi’s voice. She didn’t want to marry him. If not for Jiang Li’s scheme, she wouldn’t be in this situation.  Ignoring him, Li Ermazi shouted again.

Still ignored, the people accompanying him taunted, “Li Ermazi, does Sun Zhiqing not want to marry you? You’ve shouted so much, and she’s not responding! She clearly doesn’t like you.”  Humiliated, Li Ermazi’s anger flared. Sun Wenwen had embarrassed him in public.

He would deal with her after the wedding.  “Shut up! She’s mine; we’ve already slept together.” He yelled again, “Sun Wenwen, don’t be difficult. If you don’t come out, I’ll break the door down!” Sun Wenwen, unwilling to marry but fearing Li Ermazi’s wrath, reluctantly came out. Li Ermazi smirked; he’d deal with her later.

Sun Wenwen, quite pretty, looked even more attractive after being dressed up.  Li Ermazi’s friends, seeing his beautiful bride, were envious.  Mu Jingxun and Bai Zirong barely glanced at her; they would keep their distance from that woman. Jiang Li, seeing Sun Wenwen’s reluctance, felt happy.  They were a perfect match. The wedding procession, with gongs and drums, headed towards Li Ermazi’s home. The educated youths from the center followed to witness the wedding and feast.

 They arrived to find many guests already present. Li Changping was also there; he would officiate the wedding. Mu Jingxun’s gaze followed Jiang Li; he imagined marrying her someday. Sun Wenwen maintained a sullen expression, unlike other happy brides.  This angered Li Ermazi and his family.

Aunt Guihua was furious and planned to discipline Sun Wenwen after the wedding. Li Changping conducted a simple ceremony and read a speech.  Then the feast began. The bride was taken to the bridal chamber.

 The guests were offered melon seeds and peanuts.  Candy was scarce due to its high price and the need for ration coupons. Jiang Li took a handful of melon seeds and chatted with the team members. When the feast was about to begin, most guests had given their gifts.

Jiang Li, Mu Jingxun, and Bai Zirong arrived late to give their gifts. Jiang Li gave five cents. She thought it was quite “immoral,” as others gave at least thirty or fifty cents.
