Chapter 90 Haunted

Several police officers arrived in a police car to investigate.  Several witnesses saw Li Ermazi kill Sun Wenwen, so the police quickly questioned them, and the case was clear. They took Li Ermazi to the station.

Seeing her son taken away, Guihua Shen wailed. Li Changping, seeing her, angrily scolded her, “Now you’re crying?  Where was your concern when your son was killing someone? If you hadn’t encouraged your son to beat his wife, this wouldn’t have happened!” Guihua Shen refused to admit her mistake, “Captain Li, you don’t understand.

I told Ermazi to beat Sun Wenwen for a reason. That woman was unfaithful, even after marrying Ermazi, she was flirting with other men. She was lazy, disrespectful to elders, and dishonest.

It’s normal to discipline her, isn’t it?” Li Changping was speechless. “Stop making excuses. Your son is facing a murder charge, the police won’t listen to you. He killed someone, and he must pay the price.  Learn your lesson.” Li Changping then warned others, “Li Ermazi’s case is a warning. Don’t let your sons beat their wives.

If something like this happens, your family will be ruined.” The older women in the brigade were frightened and took the warning to heart.  They shouldn’t resort to violence, otherwise, they would face dire consequences. The news spread throughout the Shengli Production Brigade. Jiang Li continued with her routine.

Sun Wenwen’s death was unexpected, but Jiang Li quickly put it aside.

Sun Wenwen’s death was her own fault, and Li Ermazi would pay for his actions. Jiang Li went up the mountain and found a precious Ganoderma lucidum. She put it in her space. With the herbs she bought from the county town, she could refine pills.

That night, Jiang Li refined pills. It took her all night. When dawn broke, Jiang Li got up, washed, and cooked. Although she had stayed up all night, she was in good spirits.

However, she noticed a faint ghostly aura around the older educated youths’ house.  Jiang Li frowned; the aura was familiar. Was it Sun Wenwen’s ghost? Jiang Li hadn’t paid attention because she was focused on refining pills.

Usually, souls enter reincarnation after death, except for those with strong attachments and resentment. Sun Wenwen’s attachment was too strong, and her soul refused to leave. But this wasn’t a problem for Jiang Li. She wasn’t afraid of Sun Wenwen, alive or dead. Jiang Li made breakfast, and Mu Jingxun and Bai Z Rong got up.

They felt happy to have delicious breakfast every day. After breakfast, Jiang Li heard the villagers gossiping. Guihua Shen’s family claimed their house was haunted and they didn’t dare to go home. People speculated that Sun Wenwen’s ghost had returned for revenge.  Li Changping couldn’t sit still.

He knew about these supernatural things, but he couldn’t talk about them openly. If they were reported for superstitious activities, the entire brigade would be criticized, especially him. Li Changping angrily scolded the villagers, silencing them.

But some gossiping women still whispered together. If Sun Wenwen’s ghost returned for revenge, they worried she might harm others. The thought terrified them.

Guihua Shen’s family was distraught and stayed at a relative’s house. They planned to burn more paper money for Sun Wenwen after her seventh day and hire a shaman to appease her ghost. But Guihua Shen’s family was visited by Sun Wenwen’s ghost even while staying at their relative’s house.

The relative’s child fell ill with a high fever. The relative kicked Guihua Shen’s family out. No one dared to take them in.

Everyone believed that Guihua Shen’s family had truly encountered a ghost. The ghost story spread fear. Only Jiang Li remained unaffected. Mu Jingxun and Bai Z Rong were worried. They had psychological trauma after encountering the female ghost, fearing another encounter.

Sun Wenwen had often flattered Mu Jingxun, and Bai Z Rong worried that her ghost might haunt him. “Brother Xun, we should ask Sister Li for another amulet. I’m worried Sun Zhiqing’s ghost might come for you.

Maybe she couldn’t get you in life, so she’ll drag you to the underworld to be a couple!”
