Chapter 97 Distrust of Jiang Li
Zhang Jing also saw Jiang Li behind Bai Ziyong. She recognized Jiang Li; she had saved Lin Cheng’s life on the mountain when he encountered a wolf pack. Lin Cheng had pointed her out to Zhang Jing. Zhang Jing had been amazed by Jiang Li’s skills and abilities. Later, she learned Jiang Li had become the village doctor, further marveling at her talent. Seeing Jiang Li at the bullpen filled Zhang Jing with hope. She believed Jiang Li might be able to help her husband.
Bai Ziyong comforted Zhang Jing, “Don’t worry, Ma’am, I brought Sister Li. With her here, Teacher Lin will be fine. She’s very skilled.”
Zhang Jing’s heart settled. She sincerely thanked Jiang Li, “Comrade, thank you for coming. My husband is in your hands.”
Jiang Li nodded. “Don’t worry, I’ll check him.” She examined Lin Cheng and told Bai Ziyong and Zhang Jing, “It’s not serious; he’s been afflicted by an evil spirit.” Sun Wenwen was causing trouble even in death, and Jiang Li knew she needed to deal with her.
Bai Ziyong wasn’t surprised, but Zhang Jing was skeptical. As educated individuals, they didn’t believe in superstition. She looked at Bai Ziyong questioningly, wondering if Jiang Li was reliable.
Bai Ziyong understood her distrust. Before encountering supernatural events, he hadn’t believed in such things either. “Ma’am, haven’t you heard what’s been happening? Our brigade is haunted; many people have died. Teacher Lin is definitely being targeted by Sun Zhiqing’s ghost.”
Zhang Jing was speechless. “Ziyong, this is a new society; we should believe in science, not ghosts. Don’t listen to superstitious rumors. We should trust our reason. Don’t believe things you haven’t seen.”
Bai Ziyong explained patiently, “Ma’am, I’m not just saying this; I’ve seen it myself. Xun Ge and I encountered the ghost, and Sister Li saved us. Believe her; whether Teacher Lin is sick or possessed, if she says she can cure him, she will.”
Zhang Jing knew Bai Ziyong was reliable. Since he was so certain, she chose to trust him. She had no other choice. She agreed to let Jiang Li help.
Jiang Li simply drew a talisman, burned it to ashes, mixed it with water, and gave it to Lin Cheng. Soon, his color improved, and he regained consciousness. Zhang Jing was astonished by his quick recovery. Although she still didn’t believe in ghosts, the facts were undeniable. She thanked Jiang Li profusely and asked how Lin Cheng felt.
Lin Cheng, still a little dazed, understood the situation after Zhang Jing explained. He thanked Jiang Li for saving him twice—once from the wolves, and now from possession. He realized she wasn’t ordinary.
Bai Ziyong, relieved, said, “Teacher Lin, take care. Jiang Zhiqing and I have to go back to work.”
Before leaving, Bai Ziyong asked Jiang Li, “Sister Li, can you give Teacher Lin some protective charms? What if Sun Zhiqing’s ghost comes back?”
Jiang Li wanted to say it wasn’t necessary; she planned to subdue Sun Wenwen. But since Bai Ziyong asked, she readily gave him some charms.
