Ziluo noticed that Su Qingyue’s expression seemed a bit strange. She had seen Su Qingyue’s appearance before and knew that the two women bore identical faces. Even though Su Qingyue hadn’t explained, Ziluo could guess that there was something between them, especially seeing Su Qingyue wearing a veil in front of Qingli and their unfamiliarity. However, she wouldn’t ask about it.
Her life had been saved by Su Qingyue, and she had taken revenge for her, so now she belonged to Su Qingyue. Naturally, everything revolved around her.
Ziluo fell silent again, closing her eyes. Her injuries hadn’t healed yet, and she needed to recover quickly; otherwise, she wouldn’t be able to protect her mistress.
Qingli, sensing something was off, felt she could always quickly perceive Su Qingyue’s emotions. At this moment, even though Su Qingyue had her eyes lowered, hiding her feelings, Qingli could tell that she seemed quite unhappy.
Unable to hold back, Qingli asked, “Qingyue, what’s wrong?”
Concerned, Qingli inquired.
Su Qingyue organized her feelings and lifted her gaze, offering a faint smile. “It’s nothing. A-li, can you tell me about your life?”
Qingli replied with a smile, “I don’t have much going on. I’ve grown up in the Seven Mystic Sect, practicing mystical arts every day, and nothing else.”
“However, my life has become much happier these past two years, although it’s also brought me more worries.”
As she thought about the two children, a smile spread across Qingli’s face, different from her previous smiles. This one radiated warmth and happiness, making others feel uplifted just by looking at her.
Seeing her so happy, Su Qingyue couldn’t help but smile too. “Did something fun happen?”
Qingli nodded eagerly. “Yes! I had two children, a pair of twins—a boy and a girl! They’re incredibly adorable. Though they can be mischievous, I love them dearly.”
Qingli’s joy made Su Qingyue freeze in shock.
“C-children?”
“A-li, you got married?”
Qingli shook her head. “No, I haven’t!”
Su Qingyue felt even more frozen.
Her emotions fluctuated greatly, feeling a mix of confusion and anger.
Ziluo and Yuzhu exchanged glances, understanding that Su Qingyue had already considered Qingli to be her sister in her heart.
Now, her sister suddenly had children but wasn’t married; it was hard to make sense of it.
Su Qingyue stared at Qingli for a long time without speaking.
Qingli, feeling uncomfortable under her gaze, couldn’t help but ask, “Qingyue, what’s wrong? Why are you staring blankly?”
Su Qingyue looked at the face before her, those eyes—pure and innocent, youthful and naive. What kind of scoundrel could make such a beautiful girl pregnant without marrying her?
Su Qingyue felt her blood rush in anger, her heart filled with rage.
“A-li, where is the father of the children?”
Suppressing her anger, Su Qingyue asked calmly.
Mentioning the children’s father made Qingli feel a bit guilty. She had just seen the father, and it had been careless of her to bring up the topic of the children. She always spoke her mind around Su Qingyue, without any other thoughts.
Now that she remembered Su Qingyue knew the emperor, she wondered if it would cause any trouble in the future.
However, there was no use regretting it now, and Qingli didn’t dwell on it too much.
Noticing that Qingli remained silent and was avoiding her gaze, Su Qingyue furrowed her brow and asked, “A-li, is it that the children’s father doesn’t want to take responsibility?”
Qingli shook her head, then nodded, as if both responses were incorrect. Finally, she said, “It’s me who doesn’t want him to take responsibility. The situation is quite complicated, so please don’t ask, Qingyue.”
Seeing Qingli’s nonchalant demeanor left Su Qingyue at a loss for words, feeling a tightness in her chest and momentarily speechless.
The carriage fell into silence, and Qingli felt that the atmosphere was somewhat strange but couldn’t pinpoint why. Eventually, she pulled back the curtain to look outside.
Su Qingyue sighed internally, feeling unsure of what to say. At that moment, she wished she could hurry home and ask her parents if Qingli was truly her sister. Once confirmed, she would deal with these matters. Right now, her anger felt unwarranted.
The journey continued without conversation until nightfall, when they finally arrived in Nanyang City.
Upon entering the city, Su Qingyue insisted on accompanying Qingli to the inn before leaving.
Before parting, Su Qingyue truthfully informed Qingli of her identity and address, telling her that she could come to the Su residence if she needed anything.
Qingli was indifferent to her identity; to her, as long as the person was a friend she liked, it didn’t matter whether they were of high status or impoverished.
Su Qingyue returned to the Su residence with Ziluo and Yuzhu. Upon seeing the eldest daughter return, the servant who opened the door exclaimed in surprise, “Miss, you’re finally back! The master and mistress have been worried sick!”
Su Qingyue knew she couldn’t hide for long, so she entered through the front gate instead of the back.
She wondered if Yuling had been punished.
Instead of heading to her own courtyard, she walked directly toward her parents’ quarters.
The servants hurried ahead, faster than Su Qingyue.
By the time Su Qingyue arrived, her father and mother were already seated in the room, looking stern.
Anger was evident in their expressions.
As Su Qingyue stepped inside and was about to call out, a voice from behind interrupted her.
“Master, Madam, Yuling has been brought in.”
Su Qingyue’s brows furrowed, and she turned to look, only to see Yuling being dragged in, covered in blood.
Su Qingyue gasped in shock! Forgetting everything else, she rushed over to check on Yuling’s injuries.
“Yuling? What happened to you?”
Su Qingyue’s eyes turned red with concern.
Beside her, Yuzhu also teared up and hurried to examine Yuling’s wounds.
Su Qingyue instructed Yuzhu, “Go fetch a doctor immediately, and call for Yudie and Yuzhai to come and take care of Yuling.”
Just as Yuzhu was about to leave, Su Qingyue’s mother coldly interjected, “There’s no need for that. Those two maidens can’t even get out of bed right now!”
Hearing her mother’s words, Su Qingyue clenched her teeth and stood up.
Su Qingyue’s mother glanced at her and instructed the servants, “Take Yuling downstairs and have the house doctor treat her properly. If any medicine is needed, go to the storeroom and take whatever is required.”
The servants promptly carried Yuling away.
Su Qingyue instructed Yuzhu to follow and care for Yuling, and Ziluo also went along.
With only the three of them left in the room, Su Qingyue’s father finally spoke. “Now, tell me! Where have you been?”
