Chapter 2: Took Mianmian’s Flower but Doesn’t Want Mianmian
Yu Mozhi had long legs and walked quickly, and before long, his figure disappeared from sight.
Little Yu Mianmian stared after him, still hugging her tiny belly.
She was hungry.
Even when she cried, she was well-behaved. When she saw that he was gone, her little head drooped, and big teardrops began to fall one by one.
She whimpered quietly without any of the usual tantrum-like behavior children her age often showed. It was heartbreaking to see. The two security guards standing nearby looked helpless.
The little dumpling didn’t lift her head. Her small hands clutched the murky green jade pendant hanging around her neck as she spoke in a voice full of grievance:
“Jade Grandpa, this isn’t what we agreed on. Daddy already accepted Mianmian’s gift. How could he not recognize Mianmian now?”
It had been so hard to find a flower that was still blooming in such cold weather.
“Daddy won’t feed me, and he even took Mianmian’s flower! Bad Daddy!”
Her chubby cheeks puffed up in frustration, and with her face still dirty, she looked like a little tabby cat.
Neither of the security guards noticed the murky jade in her small hand shimmer faintly.
A voice rang out—one only she could hear. It sounded weak and hesitant:
“Immortal Mo has merely lost his memories. In the human world, it’s not appropriate to randomly claim father-daughter relationships. Mianmian, when you suddenly showed up and called him ‘Daddy,’ in human terms, that’s what they call… a scam.”
“Mm… but, but he really is Daddy.”
Her tears continued to fall like pearls from a broken string.
Her name was Yu Mianmian, and she had once been the most beautiful little koi fish in the Heavenly Pond. The pond’s master, Immortal Mo, was the former self of Yu Mozhi.
Back then, she had just been a small koi growing in the wild when Immortal Mo took notice of her and brought her to the Heavenly Pond to raise. She was young and simple-minded, without any great abilities, inheriting only a bit of the koi’s natural luck. But the other creatures in the Heavenly Pond, and Immortal Mo himself, had all adored and cared for her deeply.
But those happy days didn’t last long. A disaster struck the Heavenly Pond. Immortal Mo took the blow and ended up suffering in the human world.
Gone were the days when someone fed her, raised her, and affectionately called her “Little One,” coaxing her to call him “Daddy.” She had starved until her tiny belly grew thin. Missing her father and knowing he must be suffering too, she had begged the jade grandfather—who had been cultivating by the pond and always looked after her—to bring her down to the human world to find him.
The jade grandfather had told her that although her current body wasn’t Immortal Mo’s biological daughter, he was absolutely her rightful first-ranking guardian.
He used to coax her to call him Daddy all the time. She had long since gotten used to it. Why was he unwilling now? He used to have to give her loads of pills just to get her to call him that!
Daddy was really mean.
He took her flower and even tried to chase her away. Mianmian wasn’t going to talk to Daddy for at least two whole minutes!
The little one sobbed sorrowfully, hiccupping through her tears, but still remembered to speak softly to her jade grandpa.
“Grandpa, you should rest now. Mianmian can handle things on her own.”
Little koi Mianmian knew that Jade Grandpa had used up a lot of energy to bring her from the Heavenly Pond to the human world. At first, he couldn’t even respond when she called.
She felt terribly guilty and always carefully tucked the jade stone that disguised him into her clothing, using her meager strength to nourish it.
“Mianmian is such a good girl. Later, go with those two uncles to the police station. The police officers will help you,” the murky jade stone glimmered faintly again, its voice even softer and filled with affection. “When Grandpa wakes up, everything will be better.”
The little dumpling nodded obediently. Hearing no more response from Jade Grandpa, she raised her small hand to wipe away her tears. Tilting her head up, she looked at the two security guards who were scrambling to make her laugh, and spoke softly:
“Uncles, can you take Mianmian to the police station?”
That way, the police uncles could help her find Daddy. Then Daddy wouldn’t abandon Mianmian, right?
