Chapter 10: Mianmian Doesn’t Have Much Luck Either, But She Can Share Half With Daddy
“Daddy’s not angry. Mianmian is here with Daddy!”
The little girl threw the phone a bit farther away with great determination, then sat herself down on Yu Mozhi’s lap. Her big eyes blinked as she rubbed her little belly. “As long as Daddy gives me food, it’s fine. Otherwise, my little tummy will go completely empty.”
Yu Mozhi slowly came back to his senses. The corners of his mouth unconsciously curved up, and he tapped the tip of the little one’s nose. “I told you, I’m not your daddy, I’m your little uncle.”
But his tone was very gentle, and of course, the little one completely ignored his correction. At the moment, she was only focused on glaring fiercely at the phone that had ‘bullied’ her daddy. Her tiny appearance was adorably fierce.
As for what was happening online, he didn’t feel much. He simply found it instinctively annoying. He had joined the entertainment industry to act out of interest and coincidence—it allowed him to experience certain emotions while acting.
And also, to earn money. He had gone to audition as an extra, but the fourth male lead in that drama had dropped out. Though it wasn’t a big role, it was an important one.
The director took one look at him and picked him.
In just a few short years, he rose from a complete newbie to an award-winning actor before the age of thirty.
But without a background, rising to fame was enough to make people take notice. The glory he had in the public eye—who didn’t want a piece of it? Even the young master from his own agency, with his pretty-boy face and a few popular dramas with loyal fangirls, had built up a massive following in no time as long as his acting was passable.
But it still wasn’t enough for him. Dissatisfied with outside criticism labeling him as shallow, he set his sights on Yu Mozhi and tried to step on him to rise higher.
Naturally, the company shielded the young master. So, to curry favor with him, the higher-ups decided to suppress Yu Mozhi. When he refused to cooperate, they colluded with other companies to trick him into filming so-called “evidence,” falsely accusing him of breaching a contract. Coincidentally, the shop he was lured to had no surveillance—only some maliciously taken photos were “captured.”
Using that, all his work was halted. Former collaborators turned their backs on him. In just a few days, rumors flooded the internet.
Bullying newcomers, inciting fans to cyberbully others, past jobs—everything was dug up. In a matter of days, a mixture of truth and lies spread like wildfire across the web. He became public enemy number one, cursed at by everyone.
That young master had entered the industry under a hidden identity. Besides those at the company, few people knew who he really was. So the narrative became that Yu Mozhi bullied a rookie, who later turned out to be the company’s young master—leaving him publicly “slapped in the face.”
Some even claimed that he would soon have to pay a huge amount in damages and go bankrupt, that the company was being generous, and that the young master was professional enough to separate public and private matters, so he wouldn’t be punished too harshly.
As if he should be grateful for all that.
In the end, the company’s goal was achieved in exactly the way they had planned.
Of course, he would terminate the contract, but he wouldn’t let them off easily either. He had always been alone in this world—who would’ve thought he’d suddenly end up with such a soft little surprise?
But how could there be such affection for no reason? This little thing wasn’t even as tall as his leg, yet she wanted to protect him—and didn’t forget to add a little side plot for her hungry belly.
Her world truly was different from that of adults. Her big eyes seemed to hold the stars, bright, pure, and dazzling. For the first time in a long while, Yu Mozhi felt a sense of peace.
He turned off the phone and softly responded, “I’m not angry. Mianmian is such a good girl.”
Since he had decided to raise her, Yu Mozhi now truly felt it: a sense of responsibility he could actually hold on to had landed on his shoulders. He was no longer alone. He had to think twice before doing anything rash.
He had to raise a child now.
The affectionate term came out of his mouth naturally.
“Are you hungry now?”
“Mm…”
Just as she replied, her stomach growled. She clutched the hem of her shirt, suddenly a little shy. Thinking about how little strength she had, her cheeks flushed and her head lowered. She felt a little useless—like she couldn’t help at all.
Mianmian thought for a moment, then leaned in and gave Yu Mozhi’s cheek a loud smooch. Her chubby little face even nuzzled against him a few times as she sprawled over his body like a little bun.
Yu Mozhi felt a warm sensation spread through him.
“This is Mianmian’s magic. Mianmian doesn’t have much luck left, but because Daddy is very important, I’ll give Daddy half.”
Her eyes were crystal clear—sincere and pure.
