Chapter 19
A room that belongs to everyone is so wonderful. Xu Ning doesn’t know when He Beian goes to work, and Xu Ning doesn’t know when He Wanjiao goes to school.
When she woke up, it was already dawn. She listened carefully and heard no sound in the yard. Hu Xianglan should not have gotten up yet.
The most urgent thing was to pack up the bedding and send it back to He Beian’s room, then wash up and have breakfast, and by the way, check whether the clothes hanging in the yard were dry.
It is more likely that she won’t do it. If she hasn’t done it yet, she might have to stay in the house all day wearing a vest.
After folding the bedding and opening the door, I saw a small stool at the door, and on the stool was a neatly folded white shirt.
Xu Ning picked up the shirt, a men’s shirt with badly worn cuffs, looking a bit old.
Judging from the size, these should be clothes that He Beian wore a long time ago.
Did he find them for her on purpose because he saw that she had nothing to wear?
I put it to my nose and smelled it. It didn’t have that old musty smell that was stored in the bottom of the box, but instead had an indescribable scent of wood.
With the sleeves rolled up and the hem tied up, it is wearable, at least much better than the vest Xu Ning is wearing.
“He looks rough, but he’s actually very considerate.” Xu Ning praised quietly. There was no smile on his face, but he was actually a very gentle person.
She packed up and left the house, but Hu Xianglan was not awake yet.
There was no clock in the room, so Xu Ning didn’t know what time it was. She touched the clothes on the rope and found they were all quite damp. If the sun was good, they would be dry in the morning.
There was a specially prepared breakfast in the kitchen. On the steamer were two small bowls of steamed tender yellow egg custard, as well as fried vegetables, minced meat, tofu, and two sweet potatoes as big as hands.
There was a dish of mixed shreds on a plate on the dining table. The shreds included cucumber, carrot and tofu skin, each one clearly distinct and evenly chopped.
Anyway, Xu Ning couldn’t cut it like that even if he put his hands on it.
The water in the pot was still steaming, and the food was warm. Xu Ning didn’t heat it up again, but brought out a bowl of egg custard and took out half of the food.
Although today is the first day after getting the marriage certificate, she has already roughly seen how comfortable her future life will be. She wakes up to have a ready-made breakfast every day, which is something she has not dared to think about for many years.
After her grandmother passed away, she became a homeless child. She relied on renting out the house to barely make ends meet for school, but she had to find ways to pay for all living expenses on her own. Breakfast was always the meal she saved.
Others who traveled through the book had golden fingers, and if that didn’t work out, they would enhance their specialties in a certain area. Xu Ning did not gain nothing, she found that she could eat a lot…
She ate a big sweet potato, a portion of egg custard, half a plate of minced meat and tofu, and half a plate of mixed shredded vegetables. She was so hungry that she even had another bowl of porridge to relax.
After washing the dishes, Xu Ning took a walk in the yard. Hu Xianglan was still asleep. She realized that yesterday was considered an early rise for her mother-in-law.
I wanted to take a stroll nearby, but finally resisted the urge to go out. I had nothing to do at home wearing He Beian’s shirt, so it was not appropriate to go out. I had better wait until the clothes were dry before going out.
After walking around the yard twice more, Xu Ning could no longer bear it. How could her mother-in-law sleep well if she didn’t get the 200 yuan back!
Anyway, if someone cheated her out of two hundred, still two hundred in the seventies, she would dig deep to find the person and pay him back with interest.
Hu Xianglan didn’t expect that, as she was almost fifty years old, what was wrong with sleeping in?
Xu Ning stood at the door of her mother-in-law’s room, knocking on it again and again, her voice sweet and gentle: “Mom, are you awake? It’s already mid-morning, get up and eat~”
If you don’t know, you might think that she made the breakfast herself.
“I don’t want to get up. I want to sleep a little longer.” Since her retirement, Hu Xianglan can sleep whenever she wants. Her two children never come to call her unless necessary. Unexpectedly, she met Xu Ning, her daughter-in-law.
She had heard of young people falling asleep as soon as they lay down, and she had heard of old people sleeping less, but this was the first time Xu Ning had seen an old lady who could sleep in so late.
It’s not that she abused the elderly, it’s just that two hundred yuan is too much. “Mom, we both have nothing to do. How about I go with you to find Aunt Qian this afternoon to talk about the betrothal gift?”
“······” Hu Xianglan was still feeling sleepy, but Xu Ning’s touch made her wake up instantly.
Doesn’t she want to go? The problem is that no one knows where that damn liar lives. If she were to meet Qian Sanhong again, she would slap her several times and scratch her a few times to vent her anger. This evil person, liar and human trafficker deserves to be cut into pieces.
After not hearing any response from the person inside for a long time, how could Xu Ning not know what was going on? She said considerately, “Mom, I asked Aunt Qian’s address before, but I’m new here and don’t know the way. I’m afraid I’ll get lost. How about we go together this afternoon?”
Regardless of whether it is true or not, go and find out the truth first. If it is true, that would be the best, but if it is false, there are still clues.
When Qian Sanhong told the address, she didn’t seem guilty at all. When people tell lies, their speech speed and expressions won’t be smooth, unless they have said it countless times before. But from Hu Xianglan’s reaction, it was obvious that they didn’t even have an address.
Or maybe the address is half true and half false. Xu Ning is more inclined to believe that the address is mostly true and a small part is false, and maybe the house number or the alley name is not true.
The specific address can be determined.
Hu Xianglan sat up from the bed, not wanting to waste even a second. She put on her clothes while shouting out the door, “Xu Ning, Mommy needs to get up now. Don’t wait until the afternoon. I’ll get up and we’ll leave!”
Very good, Xu Ning likes this feeling of struggling for money, whether it is for himself or others.
But I really couldn’t leave in the morning.
It was less than ten minutes before Hu Xianglan came out of the house after washing up. She didn’t even want to eat breakfast. She just wanted Xu Ning to take her to catch Qian Sanhong.
Xu Ning refused no matter what she said, saying it was not convenient for her to go out now.
Even with her sleeves rolled up and her hem tied, He Beian’s clothes were still very big on her. People who didn’t know would think her clothes were stolen.
“That’s no big deal. Take it off and I’ll use the sewing machine to alter it for you.” When Hu Xianglan heard that the two hundred yuan might lead to a clue, she couldn’t sit still at home and even offered to help Xu Ning alter her clothes.
Isn’t this a wonderful thing that comes naturally? Since there were only two of them at home, Xu Ning took off her shirt neatly.
He Beian’s shirt is no longer wearable, but after some alterations she can continue to wear it, which is considered recycling waste.
Hu Xianglan did it right away. She gestured on Xu Ning’s body with her hands, cut with a pair of scissors, and then worked on the sewing machine.
The wide and large white shirt became a waist-hugging style for women, and the frayed cuffs were cut off and replaced with wide cuffs.
The fit of the shirt made Xu Ning’s eyes light up when she looked at her mother-in-law. She wanted to go to He Beian’s room and rummage through the drawers to see if he had any other unwearable clothes that could be altered.
She got up and started working. It took more than an hour to finish altering the clothes. Hu Xianglan turned around and looked at the clock hanging on the wall. The hour hand pointed to almost eleven o’clock. In fact, it was not impossible for her to have lunch before going.
When I entered the kitchen, I remembered that Xu Ning had said at the beginning that he would go in the afternoon. I was so angry that I cursed myself for being fooled. I should have agreed to go in the afternoon.
Xu Ning was wearing a well-fitting shirt in the yard and admiring herself through the window glass. Her mother-in-law had such skillful hands!
A day with a good mother-in-law, touching~
