Chapter 10
Taking the money back and holding it in his hand, Tang Huan smiled at Xing Cui and said, “Thank you, Mom.”
“What is there to thank me for~” Xing Cui stuffed the meal ticket and tuition receipt into Tang Huan’s hand, took her hand and said: “I treat you as my own daughter! How can a daughter be so polite to her mother?”
Looking at Xing Cui’s somewhat rough hand, Tang Huan put his other hand on it. From the time she came here until now, her parents-in-law really treated her like a child.
“Then mom, go buy me some shoes tomorrow. Sandals are uncomfortable and hurt my feet.” Holding Xing Cui’s hands with both hands, Tang Huan smiled and acted coquettishly.
Listening to Tang Huan’s soft voice, the smile on Xing Cui’s face never faded, “Okay, Mom will buy it for you tomorrow. Let’s buy a pair of white sneakers and a pair of leather shoes.”
Even though he felt it was too expensive, Tang Huan still smiled and nodded, “Yeah.”
Xing Cui and Meng Qinghe are her family members and elders. When she can make money in the future, she will respect them well.
Meng Zeyan finished the tomato in his hand in just a few bites and sat silently watching the deep love between mother and daughter.
When Lao Meng got home from get off work, the first thing he did was to ask Tang Huan how school was going. When he heard that she had good grades in every subject, he happily praised her a few words.
After receiving the compliment, Tang Huan felt a little inflated, and his steps when serving the dishes became lighter.
Xing Cui seldom saw her so happy. It turned out that this girl liked others praising her. She would also praise her more often in the future.
After dinner, Tang Huan went back to his room to do his homework, while the old couple took Meng Zeyan to the yard to enjoy the cool air and chat.
“Ze Yan, do you have anything to do tomorrow?” Xing Cui asked leisurely while waving a palm-leaf fan.
Meng Zeyan shook his head, “It’s okay.”
During his one-week rest time, he only arranged two things: the first was to find out the cause of Zeyan’s death, and the second was to accompany his parents.
Xing Cui guessed that he was fine. The kids of his age were all getting married, having kids, and were busy living their own lives.
He has been in the army for so many years and he hasn’t even gotten anything. There are also soldiers who have relationships with female comrades in the art troupe. Xing Cui even wrote a letter to remind them, but it was all in vain!
Xing Cui glanced at him with disdain and said, “Come with me to the state-owned store to buy shoes for Xiao Huan tomorrow.”
She asked someone and found out that there were several single girls of marriageable age in the state-owned stores. She would ask Meng Zeyan to take a look tomorrow and if there was one she liked, she could find a matchmaker to arrange a meeting between them.
Meng Zeyan didn’t understand Comrade Xing Cui’s arrangement, “Mom, what am I going to do?”
Buy shoes for Tang Huan, why would he follow me?
We can’t let him be our advisor, can we?
“Why are you talking so much? Just go when your mother tells you to. How many times can she order you around in a year?” Meng Qinghe spoke up for his wife. There was no other reason, he was just biased.
Meng Zeyan knew from childhood that Old Meng was partial to others, so he was not surprised at all. He reluctantly agreed, “Okay, I’ll go with you.”
Xing Cui sighed: “It would have been great if you had agreed earlier, otherwise your dad would have to say something to you!”
Meng Zeyan looked up at the moon and didn’t dare to say a word. How could he possibly win over the old couple who had cooperated with each other for most of their lives?
Comrade Xing Cui may not quite trust her own judgment and wants to drag him to give some advice.
It was already past nine o’clock in the evening when Tang Huan finished her homework. She washed up quickly and went to bed. She didn’t have an alarm clock and was afraid of oversleeping the next day, so it was better to go to bed early.
I still have to wait until Sunday to go to the store to buy an alarm clock.
I was worried about going to school and woke up twice in one night and couldn’t sleep well.
The last time he woke up was at five o’clock. Tang Huan didn’t dare to sleep anymore and got up and got dressed.
She has a watch that she bought when she got married. When she isn’t wearing it, she puts it next to her pillow to check the time.
It was already daybreak outside, but there was no movement in the main house, so everyone should be still asleep. Tang Huan deliberately made his footsteps light as he walked in the yard.
I finished washing up at a little after five, and arrived at school at six fifty in the morning.
Tang Huan took the money and ran to the kitchen to find two aluminum lunch boxes. She then quietly walked out the door. There was a breakfast shop near her home, so she wanted to buy some breakfast.
The lunch box has a large capacity. One lunch box can hold two bowls of porridge, and two lunch boxes are just enough for four people.
There aren’t many people coming to have breakfast, so you can get your turn as soon as you get there.
Rice porridge with pickles and freshly fried dough sticks makes you salivate just by looking at it.
Tang Huan couldn’t help himself and ordered a single portion of dine-in food for himself, to pack up when he left.
The freshly fried dough sticks are crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Stuff a few pickles in the middle of the dough sticks for an extra layer of flavor.
Tang Huan lowered his head and ate his meal without even raising his head.
Only when someone walked up and sat down opposite her did she have to look up. After all, there were still many empty seats in the store, so it wasn’t like there was no place to sit and they had to share a table.
“You’re up so early?” Meng Zeyan was used to the work and rest schedule in the army. He woke up early and wanted to buy some breakfast, but he accidentally caught Tang Huan who was eating breakfast.
“Yeah.” There was still half a fried dough stick in his hand. Tang Huan didn’t expect it to be such a coincidence.
He wouldn’t think she was eating alone, would he?
Should she put the fried dough sticks down?
Meng Zeyan reached out and took the lunch box on the table. “I was wondering why I couldn’t find the lunch box? So you brought it. You eat first, I’ll go buy some food.”
Tang Huan nodded, lowered his head and took a bite of the fried dough stick. With the lunch box as evidence, he should know that she was here to buy breakfast, right?
There are a little more people here now, and there is a queue at the window.
While Meng Zeyan was queuing to buy food, Tang Huan lowered his head and continued to eat, quietly speeding up his eating, wanting to finish eating and leave before Meng Zeyan got in line to buy his food.
Half of the porridge was left, and a small plate was placed next to her bowl, with a braised brown tea egg on it.
Thinking it was given to her by Meng Zeyan, Tang Huan quickly raised her head and refused: “Brother, I don’t want to eat it.”
She looked up and found that the man standing next to her was not Meng Zeyan. He looked familiar, but she couldn’t remember where he was.
“Eat, brother’s treating you! I know you’re having a hard time, and just drinking porridge won’t do.” The man thought Tang Huan was calling him brother, and he winked at him intentionally or unintentionally while speaking.
Tang Huan pushed the small plate to the other side, lowered his head and continued to drink the porridge, his voice was a little low: “Thank you, I… don’t need it.”
The man pushed the small plate to her bowl again, “Try it, their tea eggs are delicious. I’ll treat you!”
Tang Huan stopped holding the spoon, she wanted to finish the remaining porridge.
Putting down the spoon, Tang Huan stood up and walked away quickly in the other direction without even looking at the man.
She felt that he looked familiar and must have seen him before, and the most likely possibility was that he was a neighbor nearby.
No matter what he was thinking, Tang Huan didn’t want to have any contact with him.
She knew her identity, a widow whose husband had passed away. There are always many gossips about widows, and she doesn’t want to have a bad reputation and bring bad luck to the Meng family.
Meng Zeyan watched Tang Huan run out and looked at Liang Erban who was sitting in Tang Huan’s position.
Liang Erban not only sat down, he also took the porridge that Tang Huan had not finished drinking and placed it in front of himself, then started to peel the tea eggs with a smile.
