The End of the World Scavenger: I Win by Turning Waste into Treasure Chapter 75: The Flooded World (30)

Lin Chu pressed down on Jiang Er’s head with one hand, while grabbing Jiang Da’s head with the other.

With a forceful motion, she slammed both heads together.

The two brothers barely had time to grunt before they collapsed.

Lin Chu, with a slight look of disdain, lifted one of them with one hand and kicked open the small house in front of her.

A strong, fishy smell assaulted her senses.

Lin Chu couldn’t help but wrinkle her nose.

Even with her calm demeanor, she almost let out an expletive.

She had thought that this small house, which resembled a dry toilet, was likely a storage shed for the plant cultivators’ tools.

Who would have thought that it was actually a place for manure.

Inside, there were two large barrels, both filled with yellowish, liquid organic fertilizer.

Without a second thought, Lin Chu pressed both brothers’ heads into the barrels, one in each.

Worried they might drown, she lifted their heads every three seconds for a brief pause.

During this time, the brothers were choked awake and attempted to struggle.

Lin Chu slammed their heads together once again.

Boom—

There was another muffled sound.

The two brothers collapsed again.

After several rounds of soaking in the organic fertilizer, Lin Chu finally discarded them like garbage, tossing them into a nearby pile of grass.

She then turned around and closed the door of the small house.

There were still people waiting at the base to catch them in the act.

She couldn’t let them die just yet.

If they died, there would be no one left for everyone to vent their frustrations on.

After doing all this, Lin Chu’s expression froze a bit.

Taking advantage of her pocket, she pulled out a small, damp cloth that Xiao Er had prepared for her, just in case she needed it.

She carefully wiped her hands inside and out with the cloth, and only then did her unpleasant expression improve.

It was just too smelly.

When she had punished the two brothers earlier, she hadn’t controlled the force properly, and some of the organic fertilizer had splattered on her hands.

With her enhanced senses, she had been holding her breath ever since she opened the door, only daring to breathe again now.

Though she had wiped her hands with the wet cloth, the faint odor still lingered, occasionally wafting into her nostrils.

Lin Chu waited for a bit longer before finally seeing the old man Zhang, who was holding a small notebook.

The notebook was about the size of a palm.

It wasn’t thick, but the edges were yellowed and curled, giving it a sense of weight despite its thinness.

It was obvious it had been frequently handled.

“Doctor Lin, I’m sorry to have kept you waiting,” Zhang said, still panting. He handed the notebook to Lin Chu, but his eyes kept darting around.

“Where is Captain Wang?”

“There was someone who fell into the water. Captain Wang went over to save them.”

Lin Chu answered his question while carefully taking the notebook from his hands.

Opening it, she saw crooked handwriting and several vivid illustrations.

The illustrations depicted the vegetables in the sunroom behind them.

The pictures captured every stage of growth of the vegetables.

From seeds to maturity, each stage was drawn out, along with the necessary care and watering schedule.

Even those who couldn’t read or were unfamiliar with the writing would understand it.

Zhang, seeing Lin Chu flip through the notebook, nervously rubbed his hands together.

“Doctor Lin, I’m just a rough person and can’t read many big characters. I hope you won’t mind. If there’s anything you don’t understand, feel free to ask me.”

Hearing his lack of confidence, Lin Chu couldn’t help but smile and shake her head.

“Zhang, don’t be so humble. This notebook of yours could have been published before the natural disaster.”

When Zhang heard her compliment, he grinned and rubbed his hands.

“How could anything written by a rough person like me be worthy of publication?”

“This was actually suggested by Mayor Li when I shared our planting experiences with everyone. I can’t write, so he suggested I draw it.”

“I’m just happy that it might be of some use to others and that I can offer a little bit of experience.”

Lin Chu flipped through a few more pages, delighted.

“Let’s go, we’ll borrow a photocopier from Mayor Li.”

After taking a few steps, Lin Chu stopped and looked at the grass pile. She turned to Zhang and said:

“By the way, Zhang, there are two men over there. They suddenly ran out and tried to attack me, but they slipped and fell into the manure barrel.”

“I moved them to the grass pile. Do you think you could send someone to take them back?”

Lin Chu decided she would be the first to report them.

Many times, people tend to believe whoever reports first. She would set the tone for the situation.

That way, these two brothers couldn’t twist the story.

Moreover, today, these two brothers were distributing supplies. If the timing was right, she could send a big “gift” to Mayor Li and the others.

When Zhang heard that someone had attacked Doctor Lin, his expression immediately changed.

When he saw who was lying in the grass pile, his angry expression softened, replaced by surprise, making his face scrunch up.

“This… this is Assistant Wu’s younger brothers, Jiang Da and Jiang Er!”

“According to what you said, you’ve helped their cousin before. They must have come to thank you, but there must be some misunderstanding here.”

“Luckily, you are kind-hearted and pulled them out…”

Looking at the yellow liquid on the brothers, Zhang made a disgusted face.

“Doctor Lin, please wait a moment. I’ll go find someone to move them to the medical room.”

After speaking, Zhang ran toward the sunroom.

A moment later, he returned with two dark, thin men. When they saw the filth on Jiang Da and Jiang Er, a look of distaste flashed in their eyes.

Clean water was a precious resource now.

The base used activated carbon and water purification tablets produced by Base 1 to filter dirty water, just to get a little clean water.

They had water cards, and each person only had a 15L daily allowance, which added up to less than half a ton of water a month.

They needed it for cooking, washing clothes, and bathing.

It was never enough.

Farmers like them couldn’t bathe every day.

They could only wipe themselves down quickly and bathe every two or three days.

But if they had to handle these dirty men, who could stand not bathing afterward?

“Why not just let them stay here?” one of the men suggested.

Zhang hesitated, scratching his head.

“They haven’t finished distributing the supplies today.”

“Don’t forget, the extra reward supplies we got last time for our planting experiences were all thanks to these two brothers who helped us apply for them.”

Hearing this, the two men exchanged a glance, about to bend down in resignation when they heard a calm female voice from the side.

“The sunroom has waterproof cloth. Wrap them up first so you don’t get dirty.”

The three honest men exchanged looks, all agreeing that Lin Chu’s suggestion was very reasonable.

Zhang hurried into the sunroom, grabbed a waterproof cloth, and wrapped it around the upper bodies of Jiang Da and Jiang Er.

Once the dirty liquid was covered, the two men bent down and slid their hands under the brothers’ armpits.

Each man took one, lifting the brothers like children.

But since they were about the same height as Jiang Da and Jiang Er, they had to drag their legs along the ground to avoid blocking their own view.

Seeing this, Zhang, walking in the middle, grabbed one of the brothers’ legs.

In this way, each brother had one leg protected.

As for the other leg…

It was up to fate.
