Chapter 16: Literal Meaning
What else could it mean?
Of course, it was the literal meaning.
Yu Mozhi only skimmed the reply and had no intention of replying further.
Liu Wu was his former agent, assigned to him by the agency.
Now that he had decided to break away from the company, he naturally didn’t plan to contact Liu Wu again.
After all, they had gotten along fairly well. Yu Mozhi knew Liu Wu — while he could be inflexible at times, he was devoted and hardworking for the artists under his care.
But to ask Liu Wu to stand with him against the company and go independent was a bit much.
Especially considering that Yu Mozhi himself was struggling to handle the situation — if Liu Wu truly cared for him, it would be better not to involve him at all.
Yu Mozhi had actually already made up his mind. He planned to reach out to a few friends and start his own independent studio. Once it was set up, he would then ask Liu Wu if he wanted to join.
As for his original agency, Years Flowing Like Water Company, Yu Mozhi had always brushed off their petty schemes. But that didn’t mean he would let anyone step all over him.
Now, with a little one by his side, that resolve only deepened.
At the very least, he had to ensure the basic safety of the child with him. Otherwise, he truly wouldn’t be worthy of being called “Dad.”
He didn’t plan to continue the conversation with Liu Wu. Just as he was about to reach out to some industry contacts to start handling the situation, his phone rang again.
Nearby, the little one had rice porridge smeared all around her mouth. The moment she heard the ring, she looked up, her round eyes wide as she stared at Yu Mozhi’s phone.
She looked like she was facing a mortal enemy.
She really had no intention of giving up.
Yu Mozhi set down his pancake wrap and stood up. “I’m going to take a call. You stay here and be good, okay?”
“Miánmián! Miánmián will answer the call for Daddy!”
The little one dropped her spoon and grabbed at Yu Mozhi’s clothes with her small hands, eyes wide. Her short legs kicked in the air as she panicked.
She was so worried that her “weak, pitiful, helpless, and suffering-on-earth” daddy would be bullied. She simply wouldn’t let go.
She really felt bad for her daddy.
Yu Mozhi held the phone in one hand and her tiny fist in the other. His beautiful, cool eyes met her round gaze.
In the end, he sighed and gave in. He sat back down and pulled the little one into his lap before answering the call.
“Hello? Hello! Bro? Mo-ge?? Where are you right now? I went to look for you yesterday, and you just left the place behind like that? Don’t get recognized out there, okay? That crazy group of Jiang Yuenyue fans online are acting like lunatics! Are you still treating me as your agent or not? Send me your address — I’m coming over right now!”
The moment the call connected, an anxious male voice came through, not even giving Yu Mozhi a chance to speak. It was clear just how worried he was.
The little one, who had been on high alert and ready to defend against the “bad guy,” now sat dazed in Yu Mozhi’s arms, looking at the phone.
Huh? That didn’t sound like a bad guy.
She blinked a few times, smacked her lips to savor the lingering sweetness in her mouth, and stopped worrying. Her gaze drifted toward the sweet porridge on the table.
Just like that, she lost interest? Her fighting spirit vanished instantly?
Because the caller wasn’t bullying her daddy?
Yu Mozhi couldn’t even describe the soft feeling blooming in his chest.
