Upon hearing Wang Jinhe’s question, Lou Manqing felt a bit embarrassed, but after some thought, he looked at Wang Jinhe and said, “Sister-in-law, could you help me out?”
Wang Jinhe was even more surprised. Lou Manqing’s love interest was someone she knew?
“Do I know the person you like?”
“You do, it’s Ming Wanxin, the cousin of Su Jiu’s wife, about a year and a half younger than her.”
“You mean Ming Wanxin?” She knew that girl; she was a lovely person who had a particular fondness for food.
She enjoyed all kinds of cuisine. Every time they visited her, both Wang Jinhe and the children couldn’t help but eat a bit more when they saw Ming Wanxin enjoying her food.
She is a person with a pure love for food, her heart solely focused on culinary delights.
Lou Manqing nodded somewhat sheepishly, “Yes, it’s her. I’ve seen her three times at your place, and each time, I found myself drawn to her. Initially, I thought it was just because she’s your friend, but lately, I can’t stop thinking about her. That’s why I came to ask for your help.”
“Will your family approve?”
“My parents are desperate for me to get married. Their expectations for a daughter-in-law are so low that any girl would suffice,” Lou Manqing said, feeling resigned.
Wang Jinhe couldn’t help but chuckle at Lou Manqing’s plight, feeling sorry for him, being suspected by his own parents of being gay.
“In that case, you shouldn’t approach Gu Xiruo using your previous methods. Regardless of the truth, she’s bound to feel some aversion in her heart knowing she’s being approached,” Wang Jinhe said, frowning.
Lou Manqing kept nodding, “I’ve helped you in other matters before, and it was fine using those methods before since I don’t have someone I like yet. But now, with someone I love and want to marry, I don’t want to go about it the same way.”
“Alright, as for Xinxin’s situation, I’ll inquire later and see if the Ming family has arranged a marriage for her.” This kind of matter should be addressed promptly; what if someone else swoops in and steals her heart?
“Thank you, Sister-in-law. You truly are like a sister to me,” Lou Manqing said happily.
“You go rest for now. I’ll visit the Su family and inform you of any updates during dinner.”
“Okay.”
Wang Jinhe headed to the Su family to find Ming Wanning.
When Wang Jinhe approached, Ming Wanning was engrossed in looking at account books. Upon seeing Wang Jinhe with a smile on her face, she greeted, “Xiao He, you’re here.”
Wang Jinhe nodded with a smile, “Wanning, I never visit without a reason. Today, I have a few things I’d like to ask you.”
“What is it?” Upon hearing that Wang Jinhe had something to discuss, Ming Wanning set aside the account book she was holding and instructed someone nearby to take it and keep it safe.
“Has your third uncle’s eldest daughter been betrothed?” Wang Jinhe asked straightforwardly.
Ming Wanning paused for a moment, “I haven’t heard about that. Why do you ask? Has someone taken a liking to Xinxin?”
“Yes, it’s a friend of Su Yu’s. He met her a few times when you brought them to my place last year and developed feelings for her. He came to me about this today, so I thought I’d come to you first to inquire about the situation.”
“When I last visited home, I did hear from my mother that my third aunt was looking for suitors for Xinxin, but there hasn’t been any news yet. How about we go together to the Ming family? Do you know who is interested in Xinxin?” She was familiar with the people around Su Yu; each of them had their own capabilities, so if someone genuinely liked Xinxin, it wouldn’t be an issue.
“It’s the young master of the number one building, Lou Manqing. When I asked him, he confirmed he’s single. He doesn’t have concubines or mistresses at home, and his parents think he might be gay. Their only requirement for a daughter-in-law is that she be a girl.”
Ming Wanning looked at Wang Jinhe with a twitch at the corner of her mouth, feeling like Xiao He was joking about the young master of the number one building.
While the Ming family’s influence might not match the number one building’s, it still stood strong compared to other families. Judging by Wang Jinhe’s description, Lou Manqing’s parents would likely approve of Xinxin.
“If it means marrying someone who likes her and is powerful, I’d be happy to see my sister marry,” Ming Wanning said.
“Then let’s go together and ask my third uncle and third aunt how they feel about this?”
“Alright.”
The two of them, accompanied by others, returned to the Ming family.
The head of the Ming family was pleased to hear that his daughter was visiting with the princess, Madam Ming had prepared plenty of food.
“Greetings, Princess.”
“No need for such formality, Aunt.”
Once everyone was seated, Ming Wanning spoke up, “Mother, I heard you were looking for suitors for Xinxin. How is that going?”
As soon as this topic was brought up, Madam Ming’s expression turned sour.
“The son of the Chen family has set his sights on Xinxin and wants her to be his concubine. How could we agree to that? He even had the audacity to threaten that anyone daring to propose to Xinxin would be defying the Chen family,” Madam Ming fumed.
“Your aunt and uncle are furious about this matter lately.”
“What audacity,” Wang Jinhe snorted coldly.
Wang Jinhe had a strong liking for the several young ladies of the Ming family; he found their personalities delightful, and they got along well. They were good friends.
“Mother, please call Aunt and Uncle over, along with Granduncle, Grandaunt, and Father.”
“Is there something you need them for, Ningning?”
“It’s good news. Let’s wait until they’re all here before discussing it.”
Madam Ming didn’t ask further questions, instructing the maid to summon them.
Before long, everyone arrived. “Ningning, did you call us here for something important?” they asked.
“Yes, it would be better for Xiao He to explain this matter to you.”
All eyes turned to Wang Jinhe, who cleared her throat and began, “Uncle Ming, today a friend of Su Yu’s came to the capital and asked me to help inquire if Xinxin has been betrothed.”
Third Master Ming and his wife looked at Wang Jinhe in surprise, “Prince yu’s friend has taken a liking to our Xinxin?”
Wang Jinhe nodded, “Last year, when Xinxin and Wanning visited the royal Mansion, he saw her a few times and developed feelings. After careful consideration during his absence, he sent me to ask about this now.”
“Princess, may we inquire about the background of this person?” They didn’t want their daughter to cause trouble for someone.
“The young master of the number one building, Lou Manqing.”
Third Master Ming gasped in shock; the person interested in his daughter was none other than the young master of the number one building, Lou Manqing?
His status was not something the Chen family could handle.
It wasn’t about coveting power; it was Lou Manqing’s position that could truly protect Xinxin. Others wouldn’t be able to provide the same level of protection.
“Can we meet him? Specifically, we want Xinxin to meet him and gauge her feelings.” While they were pleased with the prospective son-in-law, their daughter’s opinion was crucial.
“Can we arrange for him to visit with me tomorrow?” Wang Jinhe asked, looking at them.
“Of course, that would be fine. We appreciate your help, Princess. To be honest, we are also concerned about Xinxin now, especially considering the Chen family’s involvement.” While the Ming family wasn’t afraid of the Chen family, engaging in conflict could lead to mutual harm.
