“Yukong is your husband, that’s true. He can help you, but he must also handle family matters. Do you realize how many people in the family have criticized Yukong because of you? Yet you dare to speak like this?” Madam Qing now felt nothing but a headache whenever she saw Gu Xiruo, not wanting to see her at all.
How many people have criticized Yukong behind his back?
“Gu Xiruo, I know what you’re up to, but you better be careful. If you dare to cause Yukong to lose his position as the Qing family’s heir, I will make you pay for it,” Madam Qing coldly declared.
Gu Xiruo dismissed Madam Qing’s threat with disdain, “Then make Yukong stop liking me. Did I make him like me?” Gu Xiruo retorted sarcastically.
This remark infuriated Madam Qing. She looked at Gu Xiruo with immense regret, realizing that she should have let her son know what kind of person Gu Xiruo truly was when she repeatedly evaded the marriage proposal.
“Gu Xiruo, you’re only acting this way because Yukong cares about you.” Gu Xiruo’s statement was true; Yukong liked her a lot, and he would agree to anything she asked. If she did anything to Gu Xiruo, Yukong would definitely be upset when he returned.
After giving Gu Xiruo a smug look, it seemed she would have to find a way to make Gu Xiruo pay for what she had said today.
Madam Qing gave Gu Xiruo a meaningful look before turning and leaving with her entourage.
Gu Xiruo watched her leave with disdain. She had spoken so arrogantly, yet in the end, she left in a dejected manner. How pitiful.
Upon returning to her own courtyard, Madam Qing’s maid frowned and remarked, “The Young Madam Gu Xiruo is being too arrogant.”
“She’s just relying on Yukong’s affection,” Madam Qing replied, contemplating a way to reveal Gu Xiruo’s true colors to Yukong.
Otherwise, keeping Gu Xiruo by Yukong’s side would ultimately be a disaster.
“Perhaps, Madam, let her be even more arrogant. It’s best if everyone knows,” the maid suggested.
Madam Qing quickly grasped the maid’s implication.
“You’re right. If she wants to be arrogant, then let her be even more so,” Madam Qing said coldly.
Even after Yukong left the Qing family, Gu Xiruo thrived there, especially once Madam Qing realized she couldn’t control her—Gu Xiruo became even more arrogant.
News about the Qing family soon reached Wang Jinhe’s ears. He shook his head in disbelief, muttering, “Gu Xiruo truly lacks sense.”
Despite the blatant flattery, she didn’t notice a thing. Instead of realizing it, she believed Madam Qing was afraid of her.
“Madam is right. However, Gu Xiruo’s thoughts are puzzling. Regardless, Madam Qing is her mother-in-law. Even if she doesn’t like her, she should maintain some decorum. Surprisingly, Gu Xiruo did nothing,” predicting that Gu Xiruo would face difficulties in the Qing family, Madam Qing wasn’t surprised.
Wang Jinhe nodded with a smile, “You’re right. Madam Qing is clever—directly confronting Gu Xiruo wouldn’t be wise. It will be more effective this way. When Yukong returns and sees how disrespectfully Gu Xiruo treated Madam Qing, I wonder what he’ll think.”
Qiu Yi, rubbing his chin, remarked, “I’ve heard that Yukong is very filial to his mother.”
Wang Jinhe paused, then chuckled softly, “If that’s true, we’ll have quite a show to watch.”
One is the person he likes, and the other is his mother. Who will Qing Yukong stand by in the end?
Wang Jinhe was already looking forward to how things would unfold in the Qing family once Qing Yukong returned.
“Miss Yuan Xu has woken up.” While discussing matters in the Qing family with Wang Jinhe and Qiu Yi, someone rushed in excitedly from outside to deliver the news.
Upon hearing this, Wang Jinhe quickly stood up and headed to Yuan Xu’s room to see her.
Ever since Yuan Xu was rescued and brought back, he had been lying in bed in a deep sleep. If it weren’t for Nan Qiao mentioning that it would aid in his recovery, there would have been concerns about his condition.
Now that Yuan Xu was awake, Wang Jinhe couldn’t be happier.
Hurrying to Yuan Xu’s room, Wang Jinhe saw him lying in bed, unable to move. Approaching with concern, she asked, “Yuan Xu, how do you feel? Are you alright?”
Yuan Xu nodded gently, “Don’t worry, I’m fine, Madam.”
Wang Jinhe breathed a sigh of relief, “I’m just glad you’re okay. You almost scared me to death.”
Embarrassed by Wang Jinhe’s words, Yuan Xu smiled sheepishly, but his brow furrowed slightly as he remembered the person who had injured him before.
“Do you know who injured you, Yuan Xu?” Wang Jinhe asked, looking at him intently.
Yuan Xu nodded, “I saw the person, someone I’ve met before.”
Surprised, Wang Jinhe looked at Yuan Xu, “You saw the person? Is this true?”
Yuan Xu nodded earnestly, “Yes, it’s true. I’ve traveled far and wide with the Young Master over the years. I encountered that person in the Lu Empire. They are a member of the head of the first prominent family of the Lu Empire.”
Wang Jinhe looked at Yuan Xu in astonishment, never expecting that the person behind the Yu family would have ties to the Lu Empire.
“I’ll inform Uncle about this matter later and discuss how to proceed.”
After speaking, Wang Jinhe gazed at Yuan Xu’s pale face and coldly reassured him, “Yuan Xu, rest assured, with me here, no one can harm you.”
“You won’t suffer in vain. I will make sure to avenge you for this.” Wang Jinhe spoke earnestly, looking at Yuan Xu.
Taken aback for a moment, Yuan Xu smiled and nodded, “Thank you, Madam.”
Observing Yuan Xu’s reaction, Wang Jinhe furrowed her brow, “Take care of your injuries. Uncle may seek you out later.”
“Okay.” After a brief conversation with Yuan Xu, Wang Jinhe turned and left.
Lou Hou entered Yuan Xu’s room, asking, “You mentioned it’s related to someone from the Lu Empire?”
“Yes, a member of the Sun family in Lu. He’s the most formidable under the Sun family head, and I’m no match for him. Perhaps only the Young Master could confront him successfully.”
“I’ll inform Brother Yu about this. Rest well,” Lou Hou said solemnly.
He was familiar with the Sun family; they had decent relations with Bai Qi’s father. However, Bai Qi seemed to disregard the Sun family members, as everyone knew he was the true power in the Bai family.
As for why he allowed his parents to be arrogant, it was simply due to Bai Qi’s twisted sense of humor.
Rubbing his chin, Lou Hou began to anticipate what would happen after Bai Qi’s visit to the Lu Empire.
After all, Bai Qi didn’t hold any fondness for the Lu Empire. Not only did he lack positive feelings towards Lu, but he also harbored a strong aversion towards the Bai family.
Meanwhile, after Wang Jinhe left Yuan Xu’s room, she went to find Yu Jingchuan. “Is Uncle busy?”
“Xiao He, what brings you here?” Upon hearing Wang Jinhe’s voice, Yu Jingchuan looked up at her.
