Chapter 49: If Daddy Doesn’t Give Me Candy, I’ll Run Off with the Wild Candy on the Street!
That ominous feeling—like something had latched on, like a curse—if it clung to ordinary people long enough, strange accidents could start happening. It might even cause what people now called psychological disorders.
And having nightmares or being unable to sleep was just the beginning. Of course, all such ominous auras had their own unique traits.
Take the aura around Yue Han, for example. It was thick with dampness and resentment, clearly connected to water in some way.
Although his aura was much fainter than it had been that day, it still immediately reminded the little koi of that fierce, fish-snatching big kitty cat.
Wasn’t this the same aura that person by the big kitty cat had?
The little girl immediately thought of the fierce big kitty cat and instinctively shrank back.
“What kind of spooky business is this? We live in a harmonious, law-abiding society now. Don’t start talking superstition here,” Liu Wu said reflexively, shuddering at the thought.
“Come on, Liu-ge, I know you’re scared of ghosts. But I’m not making this up. A relative of mine had someone pass away last month, and weird things started happening ever since. Several people in the family have fallen sick, and now they’ve sent that little boy to me. He’s the fifth case. Medical checkups found nothing. And now I’m having nightmares too—this stuff’s terrifying!”
“Who’s scared of ghosts?!” Liu Wu shot back.
Yue Han was already squatting in front of the little girl, eyes squinting in a smile. Hearing that, he turned his head to look at Liu Wu. “Really? After all that, that’s what you focused on?”
“That’s not the point! How old is that little boy? You left him home alone?”
“He’s just over three, but he’s super mature. Comes from one of those elite education households. If my parents had treated me like that, I’d have faked my own death on the spot! Honestly, I always felt like his parents were overly anxious about him. Can’t say exactly why. Anyway, he’s just staying at my place for recovery. He’s got three nannies watching him. In the end, I don’t even know if it’s my house or his anymore. Isn’t that depressing?”
As he spoke, Yue Han rummaged through his pocket and pulled out a bag of candy, which he held out to the little girl. His teeth gleamed, and his smile was a bit goofy. “Hi there, Xiao Mianmian! I’m your Brother Yue Han. I wasn’t sure what you like, so here’s a bag of candy for you.”
The little girl was still stuck in her thoughts about the scary big kitty cat and didn’t immediately react. But upon hearing this and seeing the candy in front of her, she turned to her father and asked, “Daddy, is he trying to kidnap Mianmian too?”
Yu Mozhi had just been about to comfort her when he heard her speak so righteously:
“If Daddy gives Mianmian enough sweeties, then Mianmian won’t need any wild sweeties from outside!”
Yu Mozhi: …?
Wild sweeties?
Where on earth did this little rascal learn that?
Yue Han, aka Wild Sweetie Himself: ?
“Ah! I just remembered! Didn’t you go out this morning to buy soy milk for the little one?” Liu Wu suddenly clapped his hands.
The little girl was simply too good at clinging to people and coaxing them. In just a couple of days, not only the shops around their home but also the businesses near the studio were all wrapped around her little finger. With her milky-sweet voice calling everyone ‘pretty auntie,’ even the normally fierce old ladies at the shops were giggling with joy, and they secretly followed the little one’s hints to add sugar to her soy milk.
Yup, if someone else gave it to her, she’d think they were a bad person and refuse it. But if she bought it herself, she’d cling to it for dear life.
